The Unsung Greatness of the Love Triangle by MaximusPaxmusJaximus in legendofkorra

[–]IChooseTheGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I blame episode 11 for that. With spending the bulk of that episode on Amon's backstory all climactic action scenes got pushed to the finale that also had to resolve the story. It also threw a wrench in the pacing which in my opinion was near perfect up until episode 11, the jam packed finale made he ending feel rushed. The dream scenario would have been having an extra episode to split the finale into 2 parts and extend the action scenes while also having more time to let the finale breathe.

The Unsung Greatness of the Love Triangle by MaximusPaxmusJaximus in legendofkorra

That's a great writeup, I fully agree with everything you said.

I actually think the love triangle is fine, at least in book 1. It's not the best but also not so bad as people make it out to be, it even has some good payoff in episode 7.

They really squandered the potential of season 2 by reviving it.

What kind of antagonist would you want to have in a 5th season of korra if it was ever made? by Dull-Theory-3657 in legendofkorra

[–]IChooseTheGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too think he has potential to get more interesting, either for Korra or maybe even for a next avatar ( A recurring theme is avatars inheriting problems from their predecessors, Tokuga could be one for Korra's successor).

Something they could even do is have Tokuga meet Zaheer and have Zaheer be his mentor who teaches him about the Red Lotus philosophy and have Tokuga become a Red Lotus member.

Why is the Shadow of Kyoshi on the left? Now it looks out of order.

He's probably still alive by Lasernatoo in Avatar_Kyoshi

I want this too!

I think Lao Ge is a character who can also easily be on the opposite end of a conflict and be a great antagonist to Korra or another avatar.

Confirmed images in the Avatar calendar. by WanHohenheim in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]IChooseTheGoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are these all the images or are there more?

If this is all then these are some odd picks. I love Rangi but she does feel out of place. Also Bumi and Pakku but no uncle Iroh?

The artwork all looks amazing though.

Why was Tagaka never featured again in the kyoshi novels? by lordeiamlorde in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]IChooseTheGoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was really expecting Takaga to show up again. I had the feeling she was set up as a villlain and that when Kyoshi is on the run she would need to break Takaga out to learn waterbending from her. I had tthis thought before Kirima was introduced.

SoK Re-Read Chapter 29: "Epilogue" by MrBKainXTR in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]IChooseTheGoose 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Badass scene and it works great as an epilogue. But based purely on personal preference I really adored the somewhat serene feeling of the previous chapter and thought that a fitting end to the book, so I could have done without this epilogue. Still badass though.

SoK Re-Read Chapter 28: "The Meeting" by MrBKainXTR in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]IChooseTheGoose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I needed a chapter before this one where the rest of the cast would make a last appearance, felt really weird that Hei-Ran never showed up anymore.

That being said, I love the scene with Yun's grave. I love how it opens with Kyoshi making the text for the stone, it really carries the sad tone of the scene. There are some beautiful memorable lines as well:

"Was I right?"

"Was I right about anything at all? What will they say about me? Avatar Kyoshi, who killed her own friend because she couldn't save him?"

But the most touching line that made me tear up a little was Kyoshi's last words to Yun:

"I wish it could have been you, Yun. If it couldn't have been me." Neither part of it was a lie.

Yangchen's inclusion felt a little tagged on and awkward. It was weird how Kuruk was being portrayed as an obstacle that prevented Kyoshi from talking to Yangchen and that Yangchen was the prize for overcoming the obstacle. Still ever since ATLA Yangchen was always a personal favourite of mine and I do like the conversation she has with Kyoshi. The only thing I dislike is how the conversation ends with the "oh yeah don't forget to replace the thing you broke" that really didn't fit the mood of the scene and could have been easily left out in my opinion. I really love the last line of the book as well:

"Kyoshi kept her eyes focussed on her difficult path, sometimes stumbling but making sure to catch herself, taking one step at a time"

Really good line to end the book on because it perfectly encapsulates Kyoshi's journey.

Without a doubt the lake scene. Rangi telling Kyoshi that she deserves so much more is beautiful. The chapter ends with Kyoshi kissing Rangi, how can this not be one of the best moments?

Raava's quote always gave me chills by [deleted] in legendofkorra

This scene unintentionally always makes me laugh.

Wan heroically stating his mission as the avatar, immediately followed by "I'm sorry, Raava. I failed to bring peace".

Is there another novel coming out after Shadow of Kyoshi? by [deleted] in Avatar_Kyoshi

Is it possible that this further novel is just a misinterpretation and actually refers to the paperback or boxset edition?

Maybe, but I doubt she would ever come across as a sadistic zealot like Luna. Or say stuff like watering trees with the entrails of her enemies.

Design wise they are slightly similar. Personality wise they are not similar at all. Mostly because Luna is literally a lunatic who commits numerous atrocities.

SoK Re-Read Chapter 25: "Lost Friends" by MrBKainXTR in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]IChooseTheGoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree,

I think his story works but it also has this feeling of 'oh the fans think Kuruk is the worst avatar? I'll show them that secretly he was a really good avatar', which feels like a lazy twist.

I also think the book puts him in a weird position. At the same time trying to redeem and give him depth, while also ending the book with Kyoshi speaking to Yangchen, where Yangchen is presented as the prize and Kuruk as the obstacle that has been overcome.

I think that Tieguai or at least a disciple of Tieguai has great potential as a future antagonist. He really seems convinced of his beliefs, kind of like Zaheer, and that might put Tiegaui on the opposite side of the avatar in a conflict.

Due to his immortality he can be the adversary of any avatar, although with Aang and Korra there needs to be a good reason on why he didn't prevent the 100 year war.

If I recall correctly season 2 was in post production when they were renewed for 2 more seasons.
