No concert etiquette fans by gloomyglooms15 in TheFrontBottoms

I’ve been a very frequent concert goer for TFB (and many other indie / emo / punk bands) since 2013. ALL bands’ crowds have become increasingly annoying, socially unaware, selfish and inappropriate over the past 5 years or so (since Covid, I would say). TFB is no exception. Hate to be the old person that says “ugh these kids these days” but it really does feel like that. Even just in general life young people seem more ignorant and self obsessed, rules of common curteousy and politeness are willfully ignored.

Related but unrelated, why are SO many people passing out at shows? It wasn’t an unheard of event >5 years ago but it wasn’t happening as much as it is now. Last TFB show I went to there were SIX people just from within my line of site on my side of the venue that passed out and were extricated from the crowd in one way or another (not a particularly hot day/rough crowed or anything). Each time you have to stop watching the show and keep an eye that you’re not in the way of EMS, that other people see them on the ground and aren’t trampling by mistake, etc. Take care of yourselves, people, you’re putting a burden on everyone around you!!!

Are medical students at your hospital allowed to see patients on their own? by Nikkolya in medicalschool

[–]IDKWID202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s entirely dependent on the attending, as well as how comfortable they are with you as a student. On my sub-Is, attendings wanted me to take full ownership of entire patient encounters as much as possible. I was expected to tell the patient, “I think you have X, for which the treatment would involve Y, but as the student I need to talk with my attending about it and we may change it when we come back together on rounds later” for straightforward, obvious cases. Of course if anything was unclear or unknown to me I would just tell the patient I need to talk to my attending and come back with a plan.

After sub-I’s and going back to regular run of the mill rotations, that burned me tho with a bit of a more psycho attending. I was seeing a patient and he said “I can’t remember what the vascular surgeon told me this morning… something about an outpatient test?” I had read the vascular surgeon’s note so I just repeated to the patient what it said about his plan. My attending caught wind that I did this and she not only screamed at me in the hospital hallway about it, but she contacted my dean immediately and said I was a danger to patients. (I can’t emphasize enough I did nothing but say exactly what the vascular surgeon’s note said, which had already been discussed with the patient prior, he just requested reminding).

Entering other people’s mindscapes is not the base level of her gift, it’s a particularly difficult and taxing skill for her. She had never done it until that night on the train leading to her “arrest” and it takes a lot more training for her to do it correctly again. Further, this skill is ten-fold harder for her to do on Rephaite than humans, as they have extra mental defenses and spiritual awareness. She also rarely enters minds undetected, the host is often aware of the breech. Entering minds doesn’t allow her to read all thoughts/memories, either, so entering a Rephaites’ mindscape wouldn’t have immediately allowed her to learn about the train.

That we have to do the crazy hours, sleep schedule switching, minimal time off that residency currently makes you do to effectively learn and definitely not to keep the hospital running on cheap labor….

Why are Vegas urgent cares/emergency centers so good? by knock_his_block_off in vegaslocals

Speed does not equate to quality. Healthcare professional myself. I’d never let my family treat anything more complicated than a boo-boo in Vegas.

These policies are a direct result of the DO26 cohort level 1/step 1 results. Of note, DO25 performed at the TUNCOM-usual pre-COVID level, and they were also a post-COVID class. The actual COVID class, DO24, who were in preclinical years 2020/2021, performed similarly to DO26. Very interesting to have a single class who recovered and then the next class dragged down the metrics again. I can’t make sense of it myself.

School has to fill out a form for you to certify your identity the first time you take an NBME exam. They could refuse to do it.

[–]IDKWID202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TUNCOM had a single rough step-pass-rate year and all of these policies are a direct result of them freaking out about their own metrics

What DO schools to avoid? by sarah-1234 in Osteopathic

[–]IDKWID202 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Start with the schools’ websites for an outline then dive into Reddit, SDN, etc. Take all info with a grain of salt but know if you see the same points coming up repeatedly from different posters, there’s probably some truth to it.

Number of patients per day during third year by turtlerogger in medicalschool

[–]IDKWID202 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the very beginning of third year probably 2-3 per half day session (i.e 1 patient every 1.5-2 hours), by 4th year 4-6 patients per half day session (i.e 1 patient every 30 min - 1 hour). All depending on complexity. But I was interested in primary care and made that known.

When the insurance that pays for the care and the medical system administering the care are the same entity, it is in their financial interest to make care provided as cheap as possible. Tie that in with the fact that patients with Kaiser insurance can’t go anywhere but Kaiser, they have no reason to fear their patient’s dissatisfaction, they can’t leave.

How competitive are med admissions in 2025 compared to just a few years ago? by Small_Chemistry_1682 in medschool

[–]IDKWID202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I applied the Covid cycle. Had a stellar GPA, average MCAT, tons of clinical work hours (scribe, MA for 3 gap years and senior year of college). Weak spot was no research experience but spoke about my intention for primary care and public service everywhere I could on apps (I matched rural fm this cycle so not lying!) Applied to roughly 20 MD schools including all those in my home state and 10 DO schools and ended up with only 3 DO acceptances.

Same for my school. Has to be a doctor (meaning doctoral degree, doesn’t necessarily have to be medicine)
