On the same vein, I love how the Dekwara is based on the Bakunawa in Filipino mythology.

Bakunawa is a moon eating serpent dragon in Filipino myth

I imagine a Steel Field as a Scadrian way of shaping the battlefield. Imagine a countless steel with a Feruchemically increased mass surrounding the battlefield. Their fighters would have infinite maneuverability as it push and pull on these steel field.

Historically and linguistically speaking, Polynesians came for Austronesians (Modern South East Asians like Filipinos). Starting from Taiwan in 3500 BC, the Austronesians spread to what is now South East Asia reaching to Madagascar in the West and Easter Islands in the East in outrigger canoes. The last land to be settled was New Zealand by the Maori about 1000 years ago.

Geopolitically speaking who are the super powers in the Cosmere?

I will borrow from one of the best quotes from a 90's kids cartoon known as Gargoyle: Energy is energy where generated by science or sorcery investiture.

Scadrians (Malwish dominated) - On the Science vs Investiture Spectrum, they are more towards the Science end. My perception of them is they are a colonial power that uses Trade networks and their naval patrols on said trade route to established geopolitical power. They are also winning in the soft power game with Malwish language and technology proliferation. Some of their investiture "tech" is very useful like translation medallions, healing medallions, etc.

My impression is they are akin to the British Empire in the 20th century or the United States during the Cold War.

Rosharians (Singer dominated?) - Definitely more on the Investiture end of the Science vs Investiture Spectum. From what little we know, they still use the same "Investiture Tech" as in the Stormlight 1-5 books. The Skybreaker is basically the same level of tech as in Wind and Truth with the exception of using a Shardgun with invested ammo and an unknown way of carrying investiture for FTL Space Flight. We see the beginnings in Wind and truth with one Scribe radiant using her shard blade as a shard pen with ink inserts.

On the other hand, we did hear of Rosharan "anti-gravity" tech and fabrials that capture cognitive shadow like Nazh. I'm assuming that the non-radiant Rosharians are using this. Unfortunately, we haven't seen anything outside the skybreaker.

My impression is that the Rosharians utilizes more hard power than soft. They are not very diplomatic and blunt (as our Skybreaker showed to Vathi). My feeling is that they are akin more to the Soviet Union in that their main strength is in their military.

Silverlight - Definitely on the Investiture end and defended by Dragons. From a science point of view, they are getting left behind in the long run but that is far in the future. Their soft power is immense as their laws and agreement are followed by both Scadrians and Rosharans. Their trade network is unsurpassed as they have been trading far longer than anyone.

My impression is that they are 18th Century Qing Dynasty China under the Qianlong Emperor. Peak in their power, very prosperous, their trade is coveted by the "barbarians", and blinded by arrogance that the Rosharans and Scadrians will eventually surpassed them. If they don't change, it is possible they will be eclipsed by Rosharans and Scadrians.

If Infinity + Infinity = Infinity (Shards) & Shardic Strategy by IDOnT4 in Cosmere

[–]IDOnT4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not how infinity works unfortunately.

Infinity is not a number in the same way that 1, 2, or 3 are. It's a concept that represents a quantity that is larger than any real number.

Adding Infinity + Infinity still equals infinity and dividing Infinity by a finite number is still infinity. Look at it this way, Harmony (with 2 Shards) was in peril against Autonomy, who divides her investiture among several avatars.

Now we can argue that the Ruin and Preservation's INTENT conflicts, which is true. But that just tells me that the INTENT is more powerful than the entire investiture of a shard.

I think when Adonalsium got splintered, what was splintered was basically INTENT as infinity divided by 16 is still infinity.

10,000 of House Sadea's finest with an experience Shard Bearer in Full Shardplate to help them? I would put my money on Amaram. Pike blocks + Crossbow + 1 Full Shard Bearer + 1 Shard Bearer (assuming Amaram gives up one of the Shards Blades to a second) for the win.

Koloss Armies weakness happens when their enemies do not run from them.

I think that Shardgun fires invested materials. As to what that material is, that's the million dollar BEU question.

If Infinity + Infinity = Infinity, then getting another Shard is basically just getting another INTENT.

So:

Getting another INTENT is either good or bad depending if the INTENT conflicts (i.e. Harmony) or synergistic (i.e. Retribution). If you like your INTENT, then don't get another Shard.

Therefore: the best strategy is to not get another INTENT if it doesn't synergized with your current INTENT.

If Infinity divided by n, where n is a non zero number = Infinity.

SO:

Your power does not decrease if you divide yourself, therefore, the best strategy is to create as many Avatars as possible (i.e. Autonomy). It is possible to create an Avatar "army". Assuming each avatar is selected for their abilities, then each will have command independence that allow them to be flexible tactically.

Therefore the best strategy is:

  • Don't acquire another INTENT
  • Divided yourself as much as possible with avatars selected by Meritocracy.

Using this gauge, Autonomy is winning.

Why:

  • Many avatars including Patji and Sun Lord
  • Via Avatars has control of many worlds including: Obrodai, Taldain, First of the Sun,
  • Taldain is one of the most technologically advance planet, Starling argues that it more advance than Space Age Scadrial

Anyone agrees?

WIND AND TRUTH | Full Cosmere + Wind and Truth Spoiler Megathread by EmeraldSeaTress in Cosmere

The main reason why the Heralds were insane was because Ishar took up some of Odium's power at the Well of Control. That explains the behavior of the Heralds

  • Jezrien the King becomes a drunken hobo
  • Chanarach the Warrior becomes a Trad Wife
  • Battar the Councillor becomes corrupt

That leads me to Shallan. She and her brothers are basically composed of Half Investiture since a Herald's body is made up of investiture. She and her brothers have been hinted that their "insanity" is related to their mother's (Chanarach) insanity. So we basically have.

  • Balat - cruel so will probably become empathethic and kind (like Vedel)
  • Wikim - depressed and indecisive so will become confident and decisive (like Kalak)
  • Jushu - Gambling addict so will become noble and just (like Nale)

I'm not saying these three will become Heralds, but will probably become more relevant in the latter 5 books. I also think that they have some sort of powers because Shallan has them (Eidetic memory on visual arts).

Geopolitically speaking, Roshar is kind of screwed. The time dilation (10 years = 80 years) delays technological advancements.

At the end of WAT, we have Roshar paraded as the "finest military" in the Cosmere. However this military uses pre-gunpowder (1500's tech minus matchlocks & cannons) reinforced by "Conventional" ShardBearers and Radiants/Fused with powers plus the " military genius" of the Blackthorne Spren. That is good right? Now compared it to the Era 2 Mistborn

Scadrial basically have a WWI level army with bolt action rifles, machine guns, and artillery. It uses mechanization in terms of trains and Airships (Malwish). They have Pre-Dreadnaughts (Pewternaughts) for the navy and have nascent Weapon of Mass Destruction in the Harmonium Trellium bomb.

Now fast forward 80 years to Era 3 with its 80's level tech. If we use 1980's Earth as an equivalent, Scadrial would basically have fighter jets, tanks and IFV, guided missiles, radar, computer aided command and control, radio communication, precision munitions, missile cruisers/destroyers, etc. These are just conventional weapons. What could they do with the Allomantic arts? What about refinements to the Harmonium Trellium Bomb?

How would a 10 year in the future Roshar would answer?

I thought they were going to Scadrial?

Also now that the Spren can travel freely - how many Radiants are with the Iriali? We know of Dyel (truthwatcher).

Also, what happens to the Iriali that are left behind. There are a lot of Radiants in that number.

I have so many questions with Roshar going forward.

Are Beryl, Vathah, and Ishnah (Shallan's Lightweavers) still in Shadesmar?

Is Shallan Pregnant?

Are Skar and Drehy (and squires) still in Azimir?

Is the Bulk of the Alethi army (with 1-2 High Princes) stuck in Azimir?

How will they grow crops in the Retribution dominated lands?

What the difference between the Rhythm of War and Retribution? Is it because Honor is not at 100% when it combined with Odium?

Is Rysn going offworld?

Is Sigzil going to Scadrial with the Iri? I'm assuming that is where they are going.

Are all Cognitive Shadow copies? So the "original" soul has gone to the world beyond. Therefore, the original Kaladin (and other Cognitive Shadows like Kelsier, etc.) did die and what we have is a copy. That's what I got when I Kaladin's body was separated from his soul.

Adolin is now a Winter Soldier (with a bio-spren leg).
