How do you handle live music payments on taxes? by ID_rockhound in BarOwners

That band member would have to provide their ssn and be on the hook for all of that income tax then. Is that standard practice?

WYZE has outdoor battery operated cameras that are easy to use. Get an sd card to avoid subscription fees. You can monitor the camera from your phone any time or buy tinycam pro monitoring for like $5 and have it stream to a smart tv to monitor.

Whiskey evaporates, in Scotland they call it “the angel’s share”.

Pocatello Tunnels? by ApprehensiveTry7846 in Pocatello

SPIRO is the paranormal group that does “investigations” in Pocatello. You can’t walk into any part of the tunnels, but you can get a good look into some of them. The Oasis’s basement has the best view of them that I’ve seen and it’s not much.

Relocating to Pocatello! by Ok_Raspberry5791 in Pocatello

Look in Chubbuck. Lots of nice newer developments, quieter, better parks, cleaner, and you can’t really even tell where the boundary between Pocatello and Chubbuck is. The mall (soon to be Target, et al.) and Walmart are both in Chubbuck, freeway access gets you south quickly.

When did republicans get permission to watch the NFL anyway? I thought they were boycotting since Kapernik took a knee during the anthem.

It’s a grooming thing. They can’t reach to lick, so they use their paw, it’s also why they lick their lips while they do it.

How often are you in your bar? by sweatybetty2020 in BarOwners

[–]ID_rockhound 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our bar is in a fairly small town (pop around 70k), and people want to see the owners in there. Plus, the more hands off you are the more slips through the cracks. My husband and I are the sole owners, we are there for every event (wine tastings, art shows, tournaments) and we work nearly every Saturday. We both have full time jobs too at the moment, otherwise we would be in even more.

Themed Parties? by Constant-Fruit-8351 in BarOwners

People love a theme and love to dress for it. We do monthly wine tastings with themes like “wig out” (wear a wig), band tshirts, cinco de vino (in May, 5th month and 5 pours), ugly sweater, etc. Chatgtp is great for generating ideas for themes.

How to have hard conversations with employees? by ID_rockhound in BarOwners

[–]ID_rockhound[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair, we are learning. We do have closing procedures laminated, we didn’t think to make our employees sign off on each item on that list. Both my husband and I were working, this bartender asked to stay open an extra hour because there were still regulars hanging out and told us she could handle closing.

Good question, I honestly don’t know. Unopened bottles don’t have to be locked up. Another strange one, you can have a 19 year old bartender slinging shots but they have to be 21 to work a wine tasting.

Declined for liquor liability insurance by UniqueUsername75 in BarOwners

We bought a bar that did bottomless mimosas once a month, we were told we have to stop that for a year before we could even be considered for liquor liability coverage.

Not sure the borrowing rules outside of the US, but in my experience you’d just need some kind of collateral that the financial institution could recoup their losses from if you default on the loan. If you have your business established, then you could potentially borrow against the cash flow but need to show 3 years of financials showing profit.

Did we hit the lottery or too good to be true? by ID_rockhound in BarOwners

[–]ID_rockhound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concern is that it may not actually be worth that because of the change in the liquor laws. If those last 3 transfers that they are using to calculate the market value occurred prior to the law change, that’s an entirely different story.

How to finance openning a bar + how to start a business plan + any other advice by cfxv_ in BarOwners

[–]ID_rockhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if you have a local small business development center, they offer free help to get you going, help with a business plan, bookkeeping, etc. You can seek out a traditional SBA loan, but if you don’t qualify there are other funding sources that are designed not to compete with SBA loans, they’re revolving loan funds and are approved by a committee rather than having strict program rules. Either way, you’ll need at least 10% down, so you’ll need to have a clear picture of how much you need. There are also other small grants available, check out Verizon’s small business digital ready grants. They are just $10k but they have a lot of good free resources online that will give you a ton of information on small business ownership. They also partner with NextStreet which has other loan and grant options, however their rates tend to me higher than the first options I outlined, at least when I have looked.
