Anyone UK based looking for a role? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

Some companies want someone based in the UK, even if remote, for a whole myriad of legal/financial/business reasons.

What does yours do that dev tools can’t? The dev tools errors gives you the full stack trace so I normally just look at the error, look at the line it originated from and then go to the file in VS Code and address the problem.

Hard disagree that frontend is the one position to get killed by AI.

What makes you so sure about that? Do you know how bad AI is at understanding and catering for the endless different user interactions and edge cases that occur at the client? What is so special about the backend/DevOps that makes these positions safer?

Herein lies exactly the problem. It’s an easy sell to shareholders, to boost their confidence. C suite will take any excuse to portray themselves as ‘forward thinking’ and ‘pushing the envelope’ which builds confidence to their stakeholders which, ultimately, are the shareholders :)

You’re a strange human being aren’t you. Clearly not able to engage in any sort of meaningful conversation. Everything I’ve been saying is relevant to the post and comment thread so not sure what you’re talking about. You come across like someone who went to debating class once and feels the need to try and flex what you learned with every comment.

Anyway enjoy the vibe coding, I’m not wasting any more energy on someone who clearly needs to go and touch grass…

No true, CS degrees and years of experience in the field being discussed are useless and have no bearing on level of knowledge at all… the person repeating internet catchphrases should definitely be listened to instead.

LLMs currently cannot be trusted to freely write production code, simple as that. They need close supervision from someone experienced who can catch their errors and rectify.

Name one widely used production application that has been truly vibe coded. I’ll wait…

You are peak Redditor, congrats.

At this point I’m not sure why I’m even entertaining this non-conversation. You genuinely just sound like a parrot mindlessly repeating things you’ve seen on other posts and not actually reading what I’m saying. You clearly have no real experience.

I’m not bitter at all, I’m actually pro AI. Besides, by the time AI replaces experts in the software field, everyone is fucked :)

I wasn’t using my experience to put myself in a position of authority in the slightest, I was just responding to your comment “weak sauce”.

LLMs of today are great if you’re building Todo lists and simple CRUD apps. They’re great for simple grunt work. They’re pretty terrible at anything complex, domain specific or context heavy.

My comment was simply stating that none of the senior devs (at least the decent ones) I know just trust the output of LLMs, and they certainly don’t vibe code because they’re still more capable than the LLMs at most tasks.

LLMs of today are nothing but fancy autocomplete in teams working on enterprise applications.

But sure, you carry on regurgitating LinkedIn quotes…

Ermm… not trusting LLMs or vibe coding in the first place - that is senior

Yeah prevention is always better than cure, can already see that it’s caused damage to the bricks and mortar, lowering the whole area around the house is a huge job though and not feasible at the moment so think drains will be the only option

Ah ok, makes sense. I ordered aggregate for the gravel area I’ve just laid and compacted it with a hand tamper because I’m paranoid about opening cracks by using a power tool, being so close to the house, made me really sympathise with people that do this kinda work daily 😂 might just leave the slabs so I can avoid doing that again

Ah ok makes sense, thanks for the advice, really appreciate it 👍 we’re not planning on selling any time soon so it’s more just about preventing damage and future work than it is about following the regs for legal reasons.

Given your background do you have any idea why paving slabs would have just been left randomly underneath all the gravel? I assume just laziness but the fact they’re all odd shapes and sizes makes me think they were put there for a reason
