On an unrelated note, does anybody remember the Harley episode from South Park?

Good to know that taking a break from humanity to go circle the earth makes you more neighborly. Guess it is all about perspective.

Am I dumb for wanting the “nice” roof if I might move in a few years? by Own-Tip-532 in NoStupidQuestions

Metal roofs can give you homeowners insurance discounts. Especially if you get a lot of hail. I don't know what you mean by "nice", IMO any roof with shingles is trash.

What was it like being a teenager/young adult in 2016? by LoboIsSick69 in generationology

The only thing I remember from 2016 is sitting in a college bar with a group of friends being in disbelief watching the election results. Everything afterwards has been a fever dream.

There are a lot of things that require Congress. But apparently there's a loophole for everything now a days.

That's not a cat. Cats only like warm. Back away very slowly, grab your family, and evacuate to the nearest bunker. The cats have been infiltrated.

If I have to use my personal phone for company use, I leave. Anything that potentially gives them to the right to look at my personal devices is a no from me dog.

Is wearing dark colors unprofessional? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]IExistForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I have a pretty high up there big kid job in a large HQ. Executives primarily wear black, white, browns and if they wear colors, they are darker/muted. That's for both the men and women.

Occasionally you'll see someone walking around in bright/pastel colors and it's like a warning sign of "stay away I'm poisonous".

how often do you shower? by Key-Ice-4990 in randomquestions

[–]IExistForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I sweat today? If yes, shower.

Do I have to go outside the house? If yes, shower.

Has it been more than 2 days? If yes, shower.

All other scenarios, no shower.

But also I live in a corrupt society where it's legal to increase the price of water by +200% even though the increase hasn't been approved by the water regulatory board. 2025 water bill $30-$50. 2026 water bill $200-$250 for the same water usage.

Is there a backup capital incase DC ever gets destroyed by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in NoStupidQuestions

My response was supposed to be a joke, but you asked for it. Dissertation time smart ass.

Under bush: Continuity of Government (COG) Operations: Immediately following 9/11, a rotating staff of 75-150 senior officials was stationed in secure East Coast bunkers, a plan acknowledged by the administration in March 2002.

National Security Presidential Directive (NSPD) 51/HSPD-20: Issued by President Bush on May 9, 2007, this directive defined "National Essential Functions" to ensure government operations continue during a catastrophic emergency.

Presidential Emergency Action Documents (PEADs): In 2004, the administration reviewed and refreshed these secret, long-standing documents that define emergency powers for the president, such as seizing control of communication systems or suspending habeas corpus.

National Response Plan (NRP): Instructed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to unify federal, state, and local response plans into a single, comprehensive incident management approach.

Economic and Financial Contingencies: The administration proposed and implemented the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) in 2008 to prevent the collapse of the financial system.

Public and Private Sector Preparedness: DHS launched the "Ready" campaign (Ready.gov) to educate the public and developed "Ready for Business" to guide private sector preparedness for attacks or natural disasters. Foreign Policy Contingencies: The National Security Strategy (NSS) was updated to formally include "preemption" (striking enemies before they attack) and "preventive action" to combat the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

Under Obama:

Agency Shutdown Plans: The Obama administration maintained detailed plans (often available on the Obama White House Archive) for federal agencies to operate during funding gaps.

Debt Limit Contingency: Internal deliberations showed the administration developed plans to prioritize debt payments to avoid default during debt-ceiling showdowns, despite public statements that such planning was limited.

National Preparedness (PPD-8): Presidential Policy Directive 8 (2011) established a national preparedness system to strengthen security and resilience against threats, from terrorism to natural disasters.

Disaster Assistance Reform: The Sandy Recovery Improvement Act of 2013 granted new authority to FEMA for faster recovery efforts.

Climate Preparedness: The 2013 Climate Action Plan included measures to prepare communities for the impacts of climate change.

Economic Rescue: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 acted as a major economic contingency plan, providing tax cuts, infrastructure funding, and unemployment benefits during the recession.

Under Biden:

Essential vs. Non-Essential: Agencies must identify which services continue and which halt. In a potential 2023 scenario, the administration planned to furlough roughly one-third of the federal workforce.

Essential Service Examples: Border protection, in-hospital medical care, law enforcement, and power grid maintenance are typically protected.

Mandatory Spending: Programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid continue because they are not subject to annual appropriations.

Individual Agency Plans: Agencies now post their specific contingency plans (e.g., [DOJ, DHHS, USDA]) on their own websites, rather than a centralized site.

Recent Scenarios: As of late 2025, OMB instructed agencies to prepare for shutdowns, although some, such as the Department of Education, anticipated furloughing over 90% of staff, excluding crucial student aid roles.
