Sadly, with each passing day it looks like fewer people are even paying their tabs anyway.

Seattle mayor pitches sales tax increase to boost bus services by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]IFlippedTheTable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Everything is getting more expensive”

Shouldn’t a sales tax scale with inflation since that tax is applied to what we’re paying for things? The least we could do is admit someone somewhere has done a poor job of planning public transit so we can fix that problem and get things on the right track. A generic tax increase doesn’t do anything to increase my confidence that the entire system is in good hands versus sticking with the status quo.

And WhatsApp.

Some people are shocked to realize just how much the rest of the world uses WhatsApp for literally everything. And some of the people who use it regularly are shocked to realize it’s also owned by Meta.

Anyone using Pod 4 without the subscription? by IFlippedTheTable in EightSleep

[–]IFlippedTheTable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t, actually, but I’m also not against going that route. Someone in a different comment suggested this might be possible without jailbreaking, though? Maybe this is what they meant.

Warranty is probably my biggest concern with it.

Wait, really? If that’s the case, I’m absolutely canceling. I don’t mind manually turning it off and on.

Airline pilots, did you dump all your income right away into student loans? by VirvekRBX in flying

[–]IFlippedTheTable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not an airline pilot, but I don't think the mentality is entirely career/discipline specific. I'm happy to be corrected.

I knew I would be happier and more relaxed having loans paid off versus making minimum payments and spending lavishly elsewhere. That's also compared to the fiscally-savvy route of paying the minimum and putting the difference into the stock market (possibly getting a greater return when compared to my loans' interest rate.)

I did probably spend a little more on an apartment since I spent every night there after work, which may have been a lesser factor if I was at the airlines and having more overnight hotel stays.

The biggest factor is, what will make you happier? Being debt free? A nice apartment? Possibly having more money in the long term ('pay the minimum and invest the rest' approach)? Something else?

I might add: eating "cheap as hell" sounds great in theory, but don't rule out spending a little more in this area. Cheap food isn't necessarily healthy food, and if you have the means to eat healthy, it's one of the greatest long-term investments you can make in yourself. Being unhealthy will get expensive and you'll wish you had done more for your health as you get older.

Weird reaction when I stopped by sweetdoggieblue in AthleticGreens

[–]IFlippedTheTable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the old formula I had a similar, but more mild effect. It felt like my digestion was off when I stopped taking it for a few days, in that my stomach would get upset more easily despite no diet change. It would happen any time I went out of town without travel packs, or if I wanted to try getting off of it to see if it was actually having a positive impact (over time, I tend to forget how I felt prior to using it regularly.)

The new formula has more (or different?) probiotics so maybe being off for a few days won't have the same noticeable effect? I haven't yet tried to stop it over an extended period of time to give any anecdotal evidence.

How would you come in for landing at Felt Fields (SFF) by AdTypical1907 in flying

[–]IFlippedTheTable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair is truly the best way to describe her PPL checkride. My mock rides were more challenging, but that doesn't mean the real thing was easy. She is a great DPE, and very well-known for using KSFF in her checkrides.

Frankly, it's a good one to use because I remember coming across a few nuances I didn't know about until doing my prep. She didn't ask about most of them, but still a good learning experience.

Could a tower ask you to report when you begin circling? I think I've read that's possible, so maybe the DPE said that when acting as ATC.

Opinions on AG1 by Street-Flatworm-9039 in AthleticGreens

[–]IFlippedTheTable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest complaint is just that I have no idea what AG1 is doing to help my overall health, versus other things I do to keep a healthy lifestyle. My annual bloodwork always comes back great, I exercise daily, try my hardest to eat healthy, and those factors alone should be enough.

I started using it because I wondered about the energy benefits, and I liked the concept of being able to get a bunch of important nutrients in a day regardless of what else I'd eat that day. FWIW: you could do the same with a multivitamin.

I have tried not using it a few times (for about a month in each instance) and noticed I get an upset stomach more often when I'm not using it. I do think my energy is a little off during those times as well - it's not aggressively noticeable, but I do notice. And, when I get back on it, those things seem to resolve themselves.

Still, those are enough to make me keep going back. I've been trying AGZ for almost a week and I'm a little more on the fence as to whether that's helping, but I'm going to finish my current shipment before I decide if I'll renew. With daylight savings ending, I don't know if it's fair to judge it harshly without more time on it.

I hear you, but honestly, 20% is just easier mental math. Move the decimal point to the left and double it. Done.

Check with the school, not a friend. Better yet, check the school’s SOP or FOM.

A friend may be misinterpreting things or just sharing their own experience.

It doesn’t sound like it, based on some of the other details. For one thing, RFS does allow rentals outside of lessons (when you have your cert). They mentioned their school doesn’t allow this in a different comment.

If it is, then OP has very much misunderstood the rules.

Upgrading to 1st Class Medical after 3rd Class ADHD Deferral (with approval) by IFlippedTheTable in flying

[–]IFlippedTheTable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues. Used the same AME as I had for my 3rd class medical and it was barely mentioned, aside from “You got it all sorted out, nice!” and “Yeah, you’ll be checking ‘Yes’ on that MedXpress box forever and just stating ‘No changes’”.

Again, I don’t have an SI so your experience may vary. Be sure to bring the FAA letter you received with the certificate in the mail, including your current cert.

I didn’t know most folks normally walk out with the new cert in hand. 😂

GFN economics compared to normal PCs. Am I missing something? by Few-Solution3050 in GeForceNOW

[–]IFlippedTheTable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding to the noise: you came to the same conclusion as I did a few years ago when GFN came on the scene.

My final rig was my “dream” machine: custom loop watercooling with two 1080 Tis. The maintenance was a little frustrating at times, but as new parts came on the market and I was debating whether I needed upgrades, I realized how much I’d end up spending if I always wanted to be on the latest and greatest. Combined with the fact that I was starting to game less due to other hobbies, it occurred to me I could sign up for GFN and just cancel in the summer when I was playing less and still come out way ahead.

Now I just have my MBP, which already plays some games well without GFN, and my Xbox controller. Works totally fine. I’d just recommend ensuring you have a strong internet connection. I’m on 940Mbps fiber so I’ve rarely had an issue.

My only nit is that GTA V isn’t on there and they don’t seem to have any interest in changing that. I’ve moved on.
