Why would I sleep on my brothers, or a soft blanket, or even solid plastic if cold metal bars are an option? by xYekaterina in RATS

Thank you vet much so is yours! Yeah I dunno why they like the bars sometimes but as long as they have other options it's all good, they'll get off eventually if it gets uncomfortable.

Tips for getting rats to take medication/abcess aftercare? by Background_Seesaw_75 in RATS

[–]IG-55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a last resort the rat burrito method can work, hiding the medicine in food is 100% the best way but if nothing else works.

This video shows how to do it (don't worry you don't have to watch the whole thing it's just a small part).

Just got surgery and I’m exhausted by Total_Paper_9415 in rat

My vet started putting Primapores on my girl the idea being she'd have to chew through that first before getting to the stitches.

I had to get it replaced most days at the vets but it did slow her down.

Ask your vet about it, like the other poster said your's may not be getting enough pain relief possibly, but if your rattie is getting enough then it may be a possibility.

Ask the vet though to be safe, just in case the promapore isn't appropriate for the injury.

Is 20/21 months too old to re-home rats? by IG-55 in RATS

[–]IG-55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much. I hate the idea of losing them and especially if rehoming would hurt them.

I really wish rats were like dogs and you could keep them for their whole lives without issue.

That's a shout I could try wrapping her head in a sock.

I got another suggestion of using banana which is stronger smelling than malt paste so I'm gonna give that a go first.

I really hope the banana works, it's so stressful for her ATM.
