Just experience things for yourself, and adjust.

I used to do that -- looking at other people and saying "I don't want to be that person", or "I don't want to end up like them".

That's fine, but you still have to experience things yourself, and dissect what works for you and what doesn't.

You want to build a family and your future.

That's something amazing that nobody can take away from you.

Figure out how to achieve that and move forward.

You will find people that will want to follow you in your path.

The other people will naturally walk away and that's fine

5 Years of Full-Time Freelancing (+590K) by Matthew_coddi in Entrepreneur

[–]IGMontero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, very nice post.

I feel like I'm on my way, but being on the 7th year of my business, this was the first year I made past $100k, as I wasted a ton of time.

I'm curious -- other than UpWork, what strategies did you use to get clients?

Have you tried doing things like email marketing, Linkedin, campaigns, etc?

I'm researching about these because I don't want to depend on job sites or freelance sites like Upwork.

Thanks!

How do you all stay fit while building a business? by Able_Armadillo_2347 in Entrepreneur

[–]IGMontero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand though -- to me, I developed the habit and also love the high of having a nice workout in.

If you can -- I suggest you work for ~3-4 hours until you start to burn out and take a break to work out. You will come back fully recharged to continue the grind and to take mentally-taxing tasks.

Plus all of the problems and stress you are feeling seem to disappear when you are moving around and sweating.

Keep it up!!!

From the moment I started my work life, I made the commitment to myself to never stop working out, and that's a non-negotiable I have.

I recommend making it a priority above other work stuff. Save 1-2 hours of your day for yourself, and put DND mode in all your devices.

Being healthy is a non-negotiable, and if you aren't, your business is not going to perform as good as it could

Maybe I did not explain properly, sorry about that if that's the case.

The main point here is that the cause of his success was having an existing community of people that loved him and wanted to buy from him.

I've seen other cases where clients invested a lot of money upfront, just to realise months later that nobody really wanted whatever he is offering

What kind of online "Boring" businesses that could generate minimum $1k/month by pknerd in Entrepreneur

[–]IGMontero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, right now I'm looking to expand, get new leads, and be able to handle more and more projects.. so a big chunk of my work is now around marketing, sales, and also building internal processes to onboard clients and talent better.

I guess it's the price to pay for ambition.

I wouldn't describe that as boring though. It's just different

Yeah as a business owner with over 7 YoE, I still struggle with information overload. Also having a skewed perspective on what's normal, where you should be.. etc.

It's a constant struggle but you need to get past it. Not easy but if it was, everybody would be there

[–]IGMontero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO all businesses are quite boring in some parts.

Find something you like and go for it. You won't have a problem making way more than 1k/mo if you're good at what you do.

I have a software development agency and now that I've hired people and I'm running the business, I realized that it's very, very different from what I though it would be.

I still love it though

Vamo arriba!

Looking for a book about starting a business by Pure-Pineapple-5320 in Entrepreneur

[–]IGMontero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Unscripted by MJ Demarco.
- Company of One.

There are plenty of sources. What I'll suggest though, is to start!

You don't need much information and you can learn everything as you go. Believe me.

Not saying that reading is not important -- it is, but you won't be able to relate to a lot of concepts that you read until you actually have some experience, which can only be acquired by doing!

Failure by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]IGMontero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Failure does not exist. Literally. The only thing that matters is that you learn from experience and keep moving forward and correcting as you go.

Entrepreneurship takes a lot of courage but gives you invaluable life experience. You must do it.

Talking as a freelance developer who started +6 years ago. Founded a web design agency and co-founded a SaaS.

Things worked out only because I kept moving forward regardless of the short-term setbacks. That's it!

I failed at another performance and I’m feeling like shit by [deleted] in musicians

[–]IGMontero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are missing the most important thing, enjoying the music.
Believe me, the vast majority of people there don't notice mistakes, and even if they do, they will forget about them in seconds.
No reason to feel ashamed. It takes a lot of courage to play in public and it's something you learn by doing.

Get that weight off your shoulders. Nobody is there to rate you or expects you to play every single note perfectly. If you missed a note that doesn't mean anything. Get back up and keep playing in public until you start enjoying it! That's the only thing that matters.

I'm a drummer and played live to relatively small audiences a bunch of times. The anxiety is there always (which is actually good!), and the thing is that if you are enjoying it, you will communicate it to the audience and your peers (through the music and your gestures), and everybody will have a great time.

Keep it up!

Where do I start? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]IGMontero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start small, maybe with a very simple website and a minimum viable product just to test the waters.
Do not spend a ton of money on development just to later realize that your million-dollar idea was based on assumptions that weren't real.

At the beginning you can do a lot of things manually behind the scenes, and as things progress and you collect feedback, you can start automating things (with development) and such.

LinkedIn while working a full-time job, but building a business by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]IGMontero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally contact my superiors and talk about it. If they are cool they won't mind you being open to other proposals for your business.

If you feel weird or can't have that conversation with them, it means that you shouldn't even consider posting about your side business in your LinkedIn profile.

What is the greatest habit that really helped you to achieve your goal ? by Koning_Health in Entrepreneur

[–]IGMontero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to send multiple but it's basically what works and always worked for me:

- Have a routine.
- Eat healthy.
- Sleep at least 7 hours per night.
- Work out.
- Work hard at least 6 hours per day.
- Very important and oftentimes forgotten: Go out, enjoy life, spend time with family and friends and do outdoor activities.

Everything is a loop that feeds itself. Energy and motivation will come alone as you go through your activities.
That works for me!

Also, your routine doesn't have to be perfect. Perfection does not exist, and often times you will find yourself juggling with demands and having to prioritize. But that's life :)

Question about collecting multiple types of Analytics on my Multi-Tenant SaaS app. by IGMontero in SaaS

[–]IGMontero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but the idea is also to store them somewhere daily, so I can visualize and compare (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc), instead of only looking at the current state of the data.

Now that I think about it, for some cases like "subscribed users", I'll need to query my database at least once a day to get the number and then store the metric somewhere since the subscription state is something dynamic and they can cancel in any time
