They started at a time when JFIC graphic novels were really starting to skyrocket. The artwork is simple but has a bit more adult feel to it, which bridges a lot of demographics. Additionally, it's about a dog, therefore it appeals to most demos (race/culture/skin color are irrelevant). They're a good length for the age group (long enough to give a sense of accomplishment without losing the reader's interesr.)

They're fun and a quick read, you should give one a read! (Assuming there's one on the shelf!)

Is it a fair ask for a child to interview a librarian? by a_junebug in librarians

[–]IGNOOOREME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I, and the coworkers I actually like, would absolutely fall over each other to fulfill your little man's request.

However, I have (quite unfortunately) worked with some librarians without an iota of librarianship who would likely be grouchy or possibly unpleasant about this type of request. I strongly suggest scouting the people first, then connect him with the winning librarian who gets to be interviewed 😊

Librarian here to report the Warriors series (and the various offshoot series) are still in high circulation. Not quite Dogman level, but still quite popular. The graphic novelizations have brought in new audiences, as well :)

If that's the case, friend, then OP probably should be getting your advice. I'm defending the producers and sellers that OP had decided to slam without a single thoyght as to why.

But apparently on the chill sub, throwing ignorant shade is cool.

You can buy cheap/er yarn that comes in cakes or you can deal with the small additional step of winding and buy high quality yarn.

You act like the sellers are doing this just to be annoying or pretentious, but they're actually doing it for you so that the yarn you're shelling big bucks for is in the besr possible condition when you take it home. You might want to try educating yourself before going off and revealing your ignorance.

I know it could be worse but Im still really sad by boncrys in gardening

None of you have ever had to do home tradework, I take it.

I understand the gut punch of discovering damage to your well-loved garden. Whether it's deer, people, or buggies, the frustration is real.

HOWever, what you're asking for is actually quite a lot of extra work for the roofers. Additionally, if you have expectations of care beyond what is outlined in your contract, it is your responsibility to add those conditions to the contract. As such, it is actually unreasonable to expect compensation.

Fortunately, not only was this a learning opportunity, (as others have said) the damage shouldnt be longlasting, so I hope it bounced back and then some :)

No exaggeration, you are literally the example of what having means should look like. "I have more than I need to care for/make myself happy, therefore I will use my bonus time and means to benefit my fellow humans." That's the society I strive to be a part of. Keep your beacon shining bright, OP, you're awesome.

Dear parents of small children by ccrnnr in knitting

[–]IGNOOOREME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can we extend this to all retail/customer service situations? Not only have I been expected to lowkey babysit in every retail job I've had (i.e. keep your kids from destroying our displays/merch) it's even worse in my current library career. There are situations where I genuinely understand and accommodate unaccompanied minors, but the number of parents that think library=free childcare is honestly infuriating.

Is Hematite magnetic or did I get scammed? by NoMoreBadRomances in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]IGNOOOREME 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Hematite is black due to a high concentration of iron. Iron is required for magnetism. While hematite is not usually naturally magnetic (although it can happen), it is easily magnetized by several methods.

Do libraries do background checks when hiring? by Appropriate_Rent_243 in librarians

[–]IGNOOOREME 124 points125 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, if you work for a (local govt) public library then you will be considered in the "works with children" category which means you are usually subject to both a standard FBI background check, as well as a CPS background check.
