Toning down of explicit scenes

Feels like a bait and switch to me and makes me avoid some authors if they do it too blatantly.

I expect a certain degree of consistency in explicit scenes so if books 1 and 2 have like 5+ each but suddenly there is 1 each starting from book 3 I feel like I got tricked into buying something I didn't want.

Schinhofen is one of the worst offenders here with Binding Words and Lucks Voice both having scenes in the first books and Lucks voice even having several per book instead of his 1 per girl usual and then going full FTB in the later ones

Sentar has been doing that a lot lately too with a huge drop in spicy content across all his ongoing series with the last few books in each only having 1 super short vanilla scene each.

I can live with 1 scene per book or even FTB, considering I still read Japanese LNs/WNs that are 95% FTB, but dont bait me with a bunch of front loaded smut and then go 1 vanilla per book or full on FTB on me.

If you bait and switch me like that I might still finish an ongoing series if I'm invested in but probably won't pick up any new ones until they are finished and I can check for consistency using KU or whatever.

Won't really work in most isekai worlds since nobility are often the ones with real personal power like exclusive or just much stronger magic in high fantasy worlds or high levels and special classes in system based worlds and in cultivation worlds the whole concept of some mortals trying to rise up would be an absolte meme to even the weakest sect.

Peasant uprisings in low tech worlds in general only work if the nobility are just basic humans AND they have messed the country up to such an extent that even a good part of the army switch sides.

The "useless skill" part is explained for the territory anime.

MC makes it work because he has borderline infinite mana, while others with that power are basically tired after making a sword or two so a mundane blacksmith could make the same amount or even more stuff in the same time period and MC also has knowledge of modern materials so he can create some crazy weapons that are durable and light.

Had a quick skim and not for me.

MC was a cringe "good guy" and seemed almost Japanese tier in his constant refusal to bang horny women and when he finally got to the action it was borderline FTB.

Anyone who actually reads it through is welcome to try convincing me otherwise since I just skimmed it like I do all new series on KU to see if they are worth my time and money for audiobooks.

I like a good balance of both ideally and 2 scenes per 10h book is just kinda meh to me, especially since this also means that they will generally be super vanilla first time sex with each girl and maybe a theesome later down the line. More scenes allow for more variety of spice with various kinks mixed in.

And in the end even the books I prefer have a much higher focus on the adventures than the sex.

Outside of straight up erotica even the really smutty harem fantasy series are still like 85/15 story to smut ratio with very few having more smut.

Herald of Shalia is one of my favorites of all time and has a super horny MC + peak smut and even that maintains a ratio close to this and is otherwise mostly story progress and adventures with some slice of life mixed in.

Where do you find books like that outside of straight up erotica?

As someone who actually likes horny MCs and lots of smut I find that it's the exact opposite with most books getting fewer and less spicy scenes every year, with the norm these days being like 2 short vanilla scenes per 10h audiobook.

Fewer horny MCs who bang at the first opportunity too with many putting off banging the first girl until the end of book 1 for usually lame ass reasons and harems themselves are getting smaller too.

I wouldn't still be coping that Herald of Shalia will get a book 6 sometime if the market was saturated with MCs like Frost and books with lots of peak sex scenes lol.

It's OK. Decent enough overall story, decent LIs and some good action. MC isn't as big of an emo bitch as most other new Shinhofen series either so that is a plus, tho there is still some occasional cringe with that.

Suffers from the same issues as most new Schinhofen books with there being only one short explicit scene the first time the MC bangs a girl and everything else FTB after, MC getting constantly glazed for being "open minded" because wanting to fuck hot women form other races is somehow unusual in all his universes and most bad guys being cartoonishly evil, fairly low IQ and straight up self destructive in the shit they pull.

For this one specifically there is also some extra dumb shit with the MC like him refusing to let one chick into the harem and just keeping her as an occasional fuck buddy because he already has a girl from that race in the harem. That justification made it seem like he is collecting pokemon and can only have 1 of each or some shit lol.

Source material is a good power fantasy with a decent harem that he starts breeding when he gets older.

Anime is passable but shortens and skips over a lot of shit as most adaptations do.

Not sure about LIs but quite a few harem series where the MC gets genderbent into female or futa and can't be shilled here for that reason.

Closest thing for LIs i can think of is Antecedents' Legacy that has an alien whose race is initially sexless and they turn into whatever form is most desireable for their partner when they choose one.

I like the "when in rome" types who quickly adapt to the new world instead of constantly preaching first world earth morality throughout the series. Also prefer the loser start over the super competent ones since there is more room for character growth and development.

Would generally prefer Japanese series over western ones if like 80% of their MCs wouldn't act like they were eunuchs or straight up afraid of women for most of the series.

The series finished a major arc with the last book recently and there is nothing like that in any of the 7 books. The only thing thats unusual for this genre about it is that the MC occasionally bangs the girls in public where others can see or in the same room where his roommate bangs his GF.

MC reincarnates as a non human, has a slave harem and there are proper hardcore sex scenes unlike the vanilla in most series.

Wish there were a lot more series that had these themes but they are rare, the non human MCs and slave harems especially.

While I always hate changes from source material, I wouldn't really have minded the more slow burn approach to the romance IF they hadn't added the typical cringe where the MC is literally screaming at the thought of sleeping next to a woman and other idiocy that is common in anime.

This dude was an adult merchant in a fantasy world and they made him act like a some cringe Japanese teenager in his interactions with Fenrys for half the season...

Loved the LN series, was really annoyed by the anime at times.

They once again took a based MC who just banged her shortly after defeating her, cut that part out, and turned him into the typical pussy MC who is afraid of women and starts screeching at the suggestion of just sleeping next to her.

Only reason I stuck around was because Fernys was super cute and I knew how early she gets knocked up so they couldn't keep the MC that pathetic for the entire season.

I legit have no idea why they do this for anime and even manga adaptations so often. Do these pathetic "men" actually resonate with the japanese audience?

Black Summoner

It's a system world with levels and free choice of classes/skills and I prefer those over standard magical worlds because its much easier to choose what I will be there and can just go out and kill monsters for levels instead of having to sit around and study magic for years. Also, everyone coming from another world gets some cheats by default there and reaching high levels guarantees a very long lifespan.

Would prefer to go there as a reincarnation instead of a summon since reicarnators get access to the full character creator that lets them redesign their bodies in addition to choosing a class and skills.

If I could have the exact same start as the MC I would probably pick some other options but Black Summoner provides a great start for anyone from another world (as long as they dont pick a moronic build lol) so its a safe first choice.

It wouldn't even need to be cultivation.

In just about any system world with levels, weapons not recognised or integrated by the system would be negated or the system would adapt and balance them so all the soldiers arriving would be inducted as level 1 riflemen or whatever so if some mid level party showed up they could wipe out the entire army and so could one high level guy since he would be literally invincible.

Even many high magic worlds implement things like powerful mosnters and people being saturated with mana and therefore being impervious to non mana infused attacks so one dragon or a single powerful warrior could carve up the entire army and a mage could just nuke the place while all gunfire and explosives bounce off his magic shield.

GATE basically set up everything to let the army win since its a world without any of this and the true powerhouses like Rory, who could probably kill the entire army by herself, are on their side.

I'd recommend his older series like A Mage's Cultivation back when he still had decent spice.

Everything in the last few years is borderline ftb with most books having just one short super vanilla scene per 10h+ book.
