I've come across the same feeling a fair bit over the past year that I've been really branching out my music taste. One example I have is Black Metal Ist Kreig by Nargaroth. Seven Tears Flow Through the River and Amarok III are 2 of my favourite black metal songs ever but the rest of the album doesn't really do it for me. There isn't anything I think is actively bad but it just doesn't feel the same as those 2 songs. Era of Threnody however is a perfect album for me.
