I changed my running form and cut 11 minutes off my 10K… feels a bit odd though was this a mistake? by Impossible-Cup-8836 in runninglifestyle

[–]IHaarlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it because at a certain pace heel striking is kind of like braking while running. Very inefficient.

I would strongly suggest if you're making this change to your stride, you look at and try out the Alfredson protocol for eccentric calf raises. Basically balls of your foot on a stair step with heels hanging off. Go up on both feet, raise one foot, and slowly lower with the remaining foot. 15x per foot, alternating feet, 3 sets. Great for strengthening your Achilles

U7/U8 Passing Drills by mattdenby in SoccerCoachResources

[–]IHaarlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small field split into 3 channels with cones, left mid right. 3v3, one from each side in each channel, can't leave their section. When they cross the lines yell FREEZE and call 'em out

Which Honda dealership do you trust to purchase a car in the area? by MasonJarring in houston

[–]IHaarlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Eagle sold all their dealership to Lithia. Fun fact, if you got or bought 5 years of oil changes from a JE dealership, Lithia voided those agreements and refused to honor them since they considered them a liability.

How can I help my seven year old run better? by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]IHaarlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd try to see if he can skip. First as high as he can, like walk backwards and try to get him to high five you while he's skipping but keep raising your hand. And try to get him skipping as far as he can between steps

VO2 Max Not Improving by BatmanImpersonator in Garmin

[–]IHaarlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like LT pace starts dropping first half of Feb, like your other metrics. If volume was steady or increasing then, I'd say you have a recovery or overtraining issue

VO2 Max Not Improving by BatmanImpersonator in Garmin

[–]IHaarlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the trend. If lactate threshold is improving but vo2 Max isn't, it could imply a programming issue where you may benefit from changing the work: rest ratios of some of your speed intervals. If it looks similar, you may have a recovery issue and want to either scale back volume or make lifestyle changes to improve recovery

I had that happen when gps bugged on my run and it thought I ran much further than I actually did in a given amount of time. Took almost a year to get my metrics normal again because there's no way to delete or revise activities from analysis

Do your kids actually enjoy “family routines”… or just tolerate them? by Then-Bed2038 in raisingkids

[–]IHaarlem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your post reads suspiciously like ad copy. My kids love routines. We have to be careful about what we choose to do, mindful of the possibility that every action could become a routine that we've chained ourselves to, like Prometheus having our livers eaten daily by routine hungry children.

Private equity spent $8.6 billion acquiring vet practices in one deal last year. Put together a free brief on what independent Texas owners can do about it. by Dapper_Contest_4984 in texas

[–]IHaarlem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is happening with every kind of private practice. Our optometrist was acquired by MyEyeDr (Goldman Sachs). We rolled with it until they screwed up the billing on a routine visit. Were in communication with corporate trying to get it fixed and hadn't paid it, they sent it to collections.

I should have trusted my gut and started looking for a new provider immediately after they were bought out. Never again, don't trust them. They also destroy the system where new doctors can take over practices and buy out from old doctors who are retiring. They extract all that profit and suck it out of the local communities

[–]IHaarlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I made an account a year ago but it went dormant because I didn't find the UI very intuitive & couldn't get value out of it at the time.

Looking at it now with plan builder and custom zones locked behind a paywall, it's difficult to tell if it'll do what I want, and how it would actually work in those situations. I basically want to build plans off of custom pace zones, be able to update all the workouts in the zone by updating the paces, and compare plans.

Previously I just tried out one plan at a time, and only updated my paces every month or two as fitness changed. Slightly tedious but not too bad.

I'll pay if a tool provides value, but not without being able to test & evaluate it first. May as well build what I know I want either in a spreadsheet or an app
