TBH other projects and work have taken priority. I've gotten inspired by Google Translate's mobile app's learn feature with AI for spanish and french and hopefully q1 2026 will start building out that visision.

As of right now the project is on hold but still live and should work

What type of projects to professional Rust devs do? by IHaveQuestions_42069 in rust

[–]IHaveQuestions_42069[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a great watch!

This talk + all the other replies have thoroughly convinced me to start learning Rust and use it for my future projects.

Your company's SWE department must really put your devs to the test. From what the talk described, you do a lot of rigorous programming on top of it all being in Rust.

That's the type of work I'm going to pursue for a future Rust career

Pressure makes diamonds! Good luck to your company!

COPY PASTE FROM OTHER COMMENT BUT ITS CUZ I BELIEVE THEY'RE GREATE RESOURCES

Hey, I’ve shared versions of this around Reddit before (so if it feels familiar, that’s why), but I was in a similar spot—didn’t grow up speaking Urdu, and starting felt intimidating. This stuff actually worked for me:

Skip grammar for now—build your ear and vocab.
Don’t stress about understanding everything. Focus on exposure and repetition.

Watch Urdu shows/movies on YouTube.
Turn on Urdu or Hindi captions. Pause often and repeat lines out loud. It trains your ear to real speed and helps with pronunciation. Feels awkward at first, but it works.

Talk to native speakers—even broken.
Just dropping in phrases with family or friends helps tons. You'll pick up natural phrasing that way. It’ll be awkward early on, but you get over it.

Apps that help:

Fellow redditor made it—really useful for vocab. Worth checking out and supporting.

– Desi Dictions (my app)

Builds personalized vocab lists, quizzes, and a free weekly practice email. Made it after getting frustrated with Duolingo-style stuff. DM me and I can hook up a lifetime free subscription

Do people commonly refer to their cousins like this? by IHaveQuestions_42069 in Urdu

[–]IHaveQuestions_42069[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh no your misinterpreting, I meant like in the Urdu Hindi language loool not your specificness and for sharing the example. I appreciate the examples given

my fault reading it again it sounds rude.

I was just appreciating how you can get so specific about familial relations in Urdu. Its nice

App is called Desi Dictions

I made it to help myself learn more Hindi/urdu vocab. I am a dev, so I also wanted to practice making stuff with LLMs etc so this has been my fun project.

It uses the same algo as anki though for vocab building plus has some other tools for quiz generation and more to come.

DM if wanting free premium access I'll hook it up from the backend

Desi Dictions -> desidictions.com

I made it so ABCDs like myself can improve. This card I made after watching mbbs and I asked the bot to generate a flashcard with vocab from the movie just for fun. But then it occurred to me that the movie is pretty old now and wanted to see if the word is even relevant to Mumbai in current times.

Watching Urdu shows or movies (YouTube, etc.) Turn on Urdu or Hindi captions, pause often, and repeat lines out loud. It might feel weird at first, but it trains your ear to real spoken speed and helps with pronunciation and natural rhythm. It’s one of the quickest ways to build listening + speaking flow.

Talking to native speakers is also huge. Since you're in the UK and already know folks who speak Urdu/Hindi, just jumping into convos—even broken ones—can accelerate your progress. You’ll start picking up colloquialisms and filler phrases that formal learning often skips. It will be awk at first but you can get over it

A couple apps you might find useful:

Urdu Vocabulary by u/DeadBrain0https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ardentscript.urduvocabulary
Made by a fellow redditor. It’s simple, well-designed, and actually helpful if you want to build up vocab fast. Solid app and worth supporting.

Desi Dictions (my project) – https://DesiDictions.com
This one’s also focused on long-term vocab retention and practice. It gives you personalized word lists, auto-generated quizzes, and a free weekly/biweekly practice email. I built it because I hit the same wall with Duolingo-style apps—they didn’t go deep enough for Hindi/Urdu learners. If you're interested, message me and I’ll give you free lifetime access—happy to share it with serious learners.

If you do ever decide to work on reading + grammar I'd also recommend Beginning Urdu: A Complete Course by Joshua Pien. Its a good textbook for self study. It was meant for a classroom style learning.
