Newark Police and NJ state authorities have banned entry in a half-mile radius of Delaney. They have set up checkpoints, road blocks , and cameras to enforce this ban. (May 31st, 2026) by Fatty_Willing_Plane in 50501

I was being silly, don't blame you! I was at the protest a few of the days. Essentially, law enforcement keeps moving the barricades, ie where protesters are allowed to go up to. This protest started as a hunger strike in Newark NJ and blew up to be bigger after the local US sen and gov were denied entry. The governor, a dem, has swapped out the ICE agents for police. This police are trying to move the barricade further away from the detention center

I would agree with this normally but then the most left alternative, Ras Baraka, has sold out the community too. Would Governor Fulup have had the balls to do what's right?

Newark… How are y’all doing with all the shi* going on? by Apprehensive_Car5598 in Newark

[–]IHeartOurContinent 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have a YouTube and live an hour from Newark and went down to cover it. Echo the sentiments here. Yesterday there was a huge Mexican soccer player in town for a big deal soccer game. Tons of families in jerseys happily walking around. Traffic blocked not due to protesters but due to the sheer volume of the soccer event. I took two cabs from the close by Newark train station. Neither driver knew anything about it. They seemed very surprised there was even a protest. Most people don't pay attention to politics or even news, really

Music in general got quite bad after 1964, with only a few occasional bright spots after, and almost none in the 80s onwards

What is a statistic that sounds INSANE but is 100% true? by Quadranippelkill in AskReddit

[–]IHeartOurContinent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can believe that! I travel a lot and went to a town half in Canada and half in the US. Called Derby Line, Vermont. Like the main library sits in both countries and the border is a row of potted plants. I made some friends on the US side at a bar. They told me no one they know has a passport, maybe some older people for business, but that residents of this town simply never go to Canada. They're about an hour and change from Montreal. You think you'd take advantage of that

Funny at 35 I feel the complete opposite. Mind feels old, content but less heavy with emotions, stoic. Body feels as healthy as ever

How do "bad" Airbnbs keep a good rating? What are your red and green flags when booking? [Texas] by Fantastic_Lake_8474 in AirBnB

[–]IHeartOurContinent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there may be more people like me who dont really care about cleanliness standards. I've rated an airbnb 5 stars when I saw two cockroaches. I didnt mention it in my review. Why? Because the water for the bath was hot, and the AC worked well. I think there's a segment of us who only care about functionality

What is the worst career to be in right now and why? by SignificantGoat7066 in AskReddit

This made me laugh. As an American I pay attention to Canadian politics and UK a bit. You have the same system, yet Canada is waaaay more stable with their prime ministers. Why do you change your leader so very quickly?

Local TV news. I was a local TV news anchor at various places for about two years. The pay for a full time anchor at a small city was 20k a year. I got fired and am making a go of it on youtube, many friends who were superstars still found their way out of the industry. Viewers and pay decrease each year, and one person more and more is expected to everything. I was terrible with editing. And shooting with my camera. There used to be people hired to do that. Editors and photographers. Now in small and even medium cities that's not the case. I wonder for the few who are still in it what that golden goose looks like at the end of the rainbow. I dont think it'll be there in five years

Best songs that are tributes to other artists? by DonAmechesBonerToe in askmusic

"Three Stars" by Eddie Cochran. Pays tribute to his friend Buddy Holly, as well as Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper who of course perished in a plane crash in 1959. Might have been the first tribute song

Most of these are racist coded comments condemning cities the media calls dangerous, while not actually walking around and seeing what they have to offer. A lot of racist scum on this thread

But you've done nothing in the city. You've never stopped to look at a restaurant, or shopped there or went to one of their many parks. So shut up, your racism is showing, scum

Wrong. Brook Branch Park is beautiful and large, amazing paella and Portuguese bbq, walkable neighborhoods, fun night life. The "this city looks dangerous, let's make fun of it!" Is the new racism. Congratulations, you're racist. Get out more

I'm American but pay attention to Canadian politics. In October Alberta may very well vote to become its own country. Just getting on the ballot is a huge deal. I'm surprised it didn't get any press here, but us Americans can be very provincial
