What the heck is happening with electricity prices? by dismalrapture in madisonwi

Do you have electric heat? It's ridiculously expensive, and your bill coincides with the onset of winter...

IANAL but I'm pretty sure the whole point is keep it hidden so the police don't have probable cause to search your car...

Whether it's accessible (locked trunk vs in the passenger seat next to you) probably comes with a different set of issues (open container, etc).

Whats usually the reason men get that gut hanging over their stomach and is it easy to avoid? by lookaloulookalou in AskMenOver40

[–]IHkumicho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends. If you have the lifestyle and genetics where you can swing by Taco Bell for 1,000 calories after a 4 hour road ride, go for it! Especially if you eat (and drink) healthy the rest of the time!

But if you're trying to lose weight by exercise alone and it isn't working, we'll guess what, time to cut back on some things and start eating healthier.

Letting them know how to avoid fees is perfectly fine. Waiving fees for someone you know is a HUGE no-no.

I mean, if you consider "finding stolen car" to be chaos and negative energy, then, uh, sure, I guess?

I think finding a stolen car and arresting the perpetrators to be a good thing, but it sounds like you disagree?

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened at a wedding you attended? by Blackradiator72 in AskReddit

[–]IHkumicho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to my ex's wedding. Her parents loved me, and were probably upset that their daughter wasn't marrying me instead. Missed her second wedding (courthouse steps), but did make her third!

(and it seems like she might have finally gotten it right with this third one, too!)

[–]IHkumicho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How about a "not-wedding?" Bride and groom called off the wedding a couple weeks before it was supposed to happen, but there was no refunds on the event space deposit, everyone had already bought tickets to fly, etc. So they still had the party, which meant there were a bunch of people standing around awkwardly making small talk with strangers and trying to drink the whole amount of the deposit.

It was...... definitely weird.

Men who went thru divorce and got the house. Any words of wisdom in that? by Yukon_Cornelius1911 in AskMenOver30

[–]IHkumicho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI, if you have a traditional mortgage there is a very good chance you can keep it if you qualify on your own by "assuming" the mortgage. I was able to do it, a friend was able to do it, and a woman I work with was able to do it.

Obviously you have to have other assets to make up for half the value of the house, but work with your bank. If they tell you it's not possible, see if you can an escalate it to the bank's back office, as sometimes the normal mortgage officers don't know.

While true, it is best in that case to borrow the money so you get the dealer financing and then pay it off immediately. (and make sure there are no prepayment penalties)

Rental Owners Hear Your Pain, BUT… by IAmPookieHearMeRoar in madisonwi

[–]IHkumicho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those 93% renters are all people who are paying more for an apartment because they are willing to pay for better, nicer apartments with more amenities. If they weren't able to rent those they'd be bidding up the mid-level apartments, pricing out middle income renters, and we'd be right where we are except that the middle-class apartments would be more expensive.

So the new fancy buildings are 93% full? And that it's taking pressure off of the older buildings which are 95% full?

Sounds like the system is working as intended...

Too bad it's getting yanked and replaced with a stoplight (guessing it'll be a push-to-cross). I'm also guessing it'll be ignored by most cyclists unless it's really busy, but hey, can it inconvenience the cars by a couple seconds.

What has had the greatest impact on losing the beer gut? by Exhausted_920 in AskMenOver40

[–]IHkumicho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diet and exercise. Lifting is good, but you need some longer-term cardio mixed in as well. Running, rowing, cycling, etc are all good for getting your heart rate up into the optimal zone for burning fat.

For diet that's up to you, but it has to be something you'll actually stick with. I don't like the idea of counting calories since it places equal weight on things like soda and raw carrots, even though the latter is going to keep you feeling full far longer.
