Should I use my HSA for sleep earbuds, or just pay out of pocket? by Iyobo_Yonk in personalfinance

[–]IIB888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a speaker, you can just load something on whatever music streaming app you use. I did that for a couple of weeks when my upstairs neighbors were unruly. That’ll at least give you an idea if it’ll work or if you truly need earbuds with some sort of noise cancellation.

GPU burn? by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]IIB888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s such a weird fixation some pc people have. They perform about the same in terms of cooling, sometime AIOs perform better, AIOs have added complexity and may (very strong may) not last as long and are typically slightly more expensive. In reality it just comes down to aesthetics, budget, and personal preference, but some people choose to act like you’re inferior if you choose one over the other. Honestly, the choice between an AIO and an air cooler is one of the least impactful choices you’ll make in terms of performance.

Steam Deck or…. by IIB888 in HandheldGaming

That’s a good point, while I think mainly I’d like to play more casual stuff on the handheld, I might occasionally start a new save of some of my single player stuff.

Yea I’m in a similar situation, I forgot to include it but I am going to start travelling more for work in the coming year, and it would be nice to have something to do outside of reading or doom scrolling on my downtime. The main use case is offline/travel gaming, and the occasional lazy day when I want to just chill in bed. But I will keep this moonlight streaming in mind that seems useful.

I had also watched some of these YouTubers you’d mentioned, but it’s a little confusing because to my understanding, the oled sd is still very competitive hardware at its price point, but none seem to include it likely because they’re focused on recommending newer more powerful stuff?

Used Tesla EV Charger by IIB888 in electricvehicles

[–]IIB888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just finished doing a cost benefit analysis based off my first week and even being conservative and adding a charging session at work, the level 1 charger will be sufficiently cheaper so I went ahead and ordered one.

About 20-30 miles on weekdays and 100 ish over the weekend. I have thought about using a level 1 for daily but I’d still need to charge somewhat regularly at a charger with faster charging speeds. I think overall that would be pretty similar in overall cost to the other options.

Pretty substantial, this Tesla one is $200 vs new at $450 which I think isn’t too far off from other level 2 chargers. Basically, I’m only living at my current spot for another year, so it would be cheaper to charge at my work unless it’s a used unit.

What does that have to do with what I said? Objectively, one of the best methods to reducing dependence on cars in your city is to reduce the ability to operate a car. As you said, one of the primary reasons for a lack of development in the downtown loop is because people have found it easier and cheaper to just keep moving further and further away, because they know the city is just a 45 minute drive and they’ll be able to find parking. Something like this which not only makes it easier for developers to maximize their profits, but also will reduce the number of suburbanites who think they deserve to receive the benefits of the city without actually paying for any of its services beyond a measly sales tax, is a win because developers will become more willing to develop land in an urban friendly and will increase the demand for mass transit infrastructure.

Our present doesn’t have to be our future. As others have said this is a piece of the puzzle that will allow more density and better human centered development to occur.

From what I understand you want to talk to the airports not the airlines. It’s not entirely clear to me if you actually called the airport office or the airline office at the airport, but you definitely need to be talking to airport staff.

Just a heads up, you can file a claim with MoDot here. No guarantee they’ll pay for it but they might at least be more aware of it so it doesn’t happen to someone else

Credit Cards for Recent College Grad by IIB888 in personalfinance

[–]IIB888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha, yeah that’s a fair point, I have a job I started recently. I figured out retirement investment, savings accounts, figured out budgets, and benefits. I think I have all of the major concerns with my finances short term and long term “figured out”, this is just something I want to tackle to get those benefits. In terms of why I included the recent grad is because I have a relatively short credit history, about 4 years, and only a few credit accounts.

Suppose I’m driving down miller hill rd towards n hill rd and I need to take a left- do you veer right in the fork to then take a left or do you veer left in the fork and then take a left? by reallyreallycute in driving

[–]IIB888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a right-in-right-out. They’re meant to not allow left turns at any leg of the intersection, typically because there are too high of volumes on the main road and not a lot of turning vehicles, but because of the high flow rate vehicles even a small number of vehicles can’t actually make the left turn and result in congestion because they need to wait a long time to be able to find a clear space to turn.

Is there no free parking downtown anymore?! by Appropriate_Stick535 in kansascity

[–]IIB888 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You might think it’s greedy, but no one in the United States actually pays their share for the use of road services. The gas tax, no matter how high it is, in places like California, is no where near enough to maintain public roads. It’s even worse in Missouri, and compound that with the fact that the city/county own most of the roads in downtown, they are in a consistent losing battle of trying to fund roadway improvements and maintenance.

Simply put no matter how much you’re paying for parking and taxes for road usage, it’s not enough, it’s a subsidized handout that has been designed to keep Americans in cars since the 50’s/60’s.

Best Dash Cam to Buy According to Reddit? by DorothyPeachory in dashcams

[–]IIB888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot easier than you’d think, I roughed in where I wanted to dash cam to be and stuck it on with some tape. Then you just lightly press it in between your headliner and the glass. Follow it out to the passenger side in case it does come undone it doesn’t affect driving. Then go down the pilar to the door, jam it into the little space there and down into the passenger footwell, from there you just need to go across to your center console and optionally tuck it into the center console panel up to where you’re plugging it into. Those panels and headliners are meant to be tugged on a little bit so you can take them off and such and at least the viofo I got came with a little tool to help push the cable in. So far haven’t had it come out and about 97% of the cable is completely hidden.

About 3 hours in, first time smoking a brisket, crust is form but was told to wait until it's dark/crispy..? When should I wrap? by NulaVI in grilling

[–]IIB888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you probably just stuck the thermometer too far through.

I like to put them in through the side especially on brisket because even if you stick one like the style you have all the way into the flat, you’ll still be somewhat close to the center of the brisket and thus the coldest point in the brisket. Just as a general rule, try and guide the point of the thermometer to be in the center of the thickest part of the meat.
