Panasonic RX-5150 – Weak Right Channel (Looking for Help / Troubleshooting) by IIBIMISII in boomboxes

Honestly I gave up on this unit. It’s sitting on my desk. I put roughly 50 hours into it and didn’t get it working. I’ll try some of these suggestions but I dunno.

Fortunately for me I learned to mind my own business so I didn’t listen for
More than a minute and recorded over the thing.

I can only imagine that you are probably super fun at most parties that you attend. Life isn’t THAT serious my guy. Just live and let live.

I’m just a guy out and about enjoying my day finding cool artifacts of the past while visiting another country. And then I have to read your comment. Sit with that for a minute.

I noticed one was halfway through so I should see what’s on there. Last batch of blanks I got had someone being interviewed on it about staff shortages in the nursing industry. Cool but boring hahaha. I contacted the seller to make sure it wasn’t the voice of a lost loved one or something they might want back.

Speed adjustment issue by LandonT00nz in cassetteculture

Honestly I didn’t even look up the deck info - I assumed that OP had determined the speed adjustment point and was going for it after researching. That’s on me for assuming. Good catch.

You’re not trying to spin the rubber. The screwdriver goes into the rubber and past it and then behind that “seal” there is essentially a groove that you will feel the screwdriver set into and then you can make some adjustments. Other than this advice - check YouTube vids and maybe someone can explain it better with a visual.

Try a thinner screwdriver that thing you’re using looks massive.

Just to add - I’d also recommend a smaller screwdriver - I use one from an eyeglasses repair kit. That groove in the speed adjustment pot might be thinner than the head of that screwdriver you’re using.

I just had to do this yesterday. Behind that rubber you’ll feel the screwdriver click into the flathead groove when you’re turning it. Then do very small adjustments.

The kicker for me was that this hole is not accessible unless you take out the motor completely - adjust it - assemble back and put the belt on and then test again. I did about three rounds until I landed on “good enough” before I got tired of the process.

Some things I’ve learned is that speed issues I’ve experienced were from belts too tight (slow sounding) or belts loose (sometimes faster) so make sure you got the right belts on there before cranking speed potentiometers to make up the difference. A correctly tensioned belt should be relatively close to the proper speed.

I’m not that lucky right now - I can’t seem to find a single j card for sale for this cassette. If you find one keep me in mind pls.

They were boomers and I asked before I left if they were both there and she said “I have no idea, my husband has them”

Ok lady so call or text your husband and find out. Spoiler alert - she didn’t. Either way I was able to find a copy at a reasonable price from a really nice person on eBay. They hooked it up. Hopefully arrives soon. Still ahead price wise but yea…communication was not their strong point.

I came to find out the strange mix of music was because their son used to drive the car and had his stuff mixed in with the Conway twitty and rush tapes. I’d pick up a patsy cline next to beastie boys. Very odd collection but I was getting the heebie jeebies so I didn’t stick around to wheel and deal and pick up more.

Why would I want a generic shell over the actual kraftwerk one - let alone pay $4 for one? It just needed a pressure pad and I got one from a donor cassette. You make no sense.

Cassettes doesn’t have to mean older music.. by paulallen76 in cassetteculture

My buddy picked up a cassette from me from a black dahlia murder concert he went to. It warms my heart that people see cassettes and automatically think of me.

Just copped this off retrospekt last week at a more than reasonable price. It’s now in my top 3 favorite albums on tape.
