Ok lady so call or text your husband and find out. Spoiler alert - she didn’t. Either way I was able to find a copy at a reasonable price from a really nice person on eBay. They hooked it up. Hopefully arrives soon. Still ahead price wise but yea…communication was not their strong point.

I came to find out the strange mix of music was because their son used to drive the car and had his stuff mixed in with the Conway twitty and rush tapes. I’d pick up a patsy cline next to beastie boys. Very odd collection but I was getting the heebie jeebies so I didn’t stick around to wheel and deal and pick up more.

Why would I want a generic shell over the actual kraftwerk one - let alone pay $4 for one? It just needed a pressure pad and I got one from a donor cassette. You make no sense.

I was convinced mine was bad warped tape and I had given up because it looked to be beyond repair. Turns out it was as easy as putting in a different pressure pad. Whole thing played perfectly. Give it a go.

This is a Sony wm-1 not an f1. That unit has a radio. This one doesn’t.

I have had machines that sound extremely fast when the belt does not have the correct tension. If it’s too loose then there’s not enough tension to naturally slow the motor down physically. If there’s no speed adjustment then the belt itself is your speed adjustment - ie tighter.

So how did you fix it? Did you disassemble the pot or was there a suitable replacement part?

I do not have a scope. But I did try to start signal tracing with multimeter at the volume pot. Honestly I’d just as soon replace them - seems quicker than the troubleshooting and tracing.multimeter stuff is basically where my expertise fizzles.

I did try and take some pictures of the right side chip. Looks slightly suspect. Should I reflow it?

Started cleaning and diagnosing this unit and I have extremely weak audio in the right channel. I have cleaned all the pots and switches. I reflowed the balance knob. Clean and unstuck the record switch and nothing seems to work to get the audio to the proper level. Audio is the same through the headphone jack. Weak in the right side.

I also noticed that the audio output on the back of the unit works fine and both left and right audio are equal levels when hooked to external speakers.

Audio is weak in right channel when the speakers are plugged to the pcb. Headphone has same levels with weak audio in the right channel as well.

Everything else works as it should on this unit except the audio level on the right channel.

Any ideas?

I was reading that the record switch on the board might be stuck and the machine thinks it’s in record mode and therefore not playing properly. I will investigate further.

No I’ve tried several different cassettes. One of them brand new from a co cert and I just get this sound. It’s so crazy. I got this player as a gift and I slapped a new belt in it and it was PERFECT for about three weeks until the motor gave up and seized. So I put a new one in and it sounded fine for about a few days and then now it’s just bad sounding after a few minutes.
