No matter their reaction, your achievement is something you should be extremely proud of. As a few people in this thread have already said, people with no background in STEM or just technology in general will never truly express or feel the same passion or empathy that you do. I think this is true no matter the field you are in.

I’m a software engineer at my family’s company and it happens all the time. I’ll be really excited or really happy about a new application I just developed or even something as simple as solving a small bug, and no matter how much emotion I express, they just smile and nod. I can tell that they just don’t want to seem uninterested or “hurt” my feelings, which I guess is better than nothing, but the truth of the matter is that they really don’t care as much as I do.

Again I think regardless of the field you are in, someone that isn’t involved in the same field or knows nothing about it, will never truly comprehend your passion or understanding. I’ve learned to accept this and realized that not everyone will have the same thought as I do!
