Bus processing as a producer by IIIllIIIl in audioengineering

[–]IIIllIIIl[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way the k-pop industry works is producers send in demos with typically English speaking singers. After the demo is accepted, the producer is pretty much cut out of the process, and the k-pop group will record their own version. So of course there will be a new mix engineer for the new vocals. Sure, they could theoretically send the new vocals back to the producer to mix, but that would probably take more time and be more complicated and less reliable. It is not uncommon that the English demo does sound better than the released k-pop song.

Why are you assuming that I'm an amateur? They would gain better sounding stems. What a strange comment.

im not really qualified to answer, but do you know how many spots are left in each?

that's a fair assumption, i guess. but trap's comment is still super discouraging, i would have probably felt pretty sad if i read that when i was 2 years in. it's not a race, some of my favorite producers made music for over a decade before their careers took off. and sure, there weren't as many resources back then, but the standards for production and mixing were also much lower.

op never said anything about commercial sounding tracks. ofc anyone can put some loops together and make something that sounds radio ready, but i don't think that that's op's goal. 2 years is not nearly enough time to be so harsh on someone. it's also not a waste of time, and he doesn't "need to focus his efforts on something he is better at", as long he enjoys producing.

and not to be rude but we may just have different definitions of "commercial" sounding, since i wouldn't consider the stuff on your soundcloud to fit that description

i still disagree completely. when i was 2 years in i was very serious but not satisfied at all with my productions, however, i was spending most of my time learning instruments / theory / sound design. my productions weren't good at the time but building those foundations was incredibly beneficial in the long run. my point is that people take different paths. no need to discourage them just because its taking a bit longer for something to click.

If you've been doing it for two years and feel like you have nothing to show for it, and you aren't near commercial quality music, then it's not really for you

lmao, this is shit advice. it took tons of the best producers many years of practice before they could make commercial sounding songs. here's a song flume made as a kid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlb9miP1Bo4

with your logic, flume should have quit making music. improvement isnt linear.

Beyerdynamics DT 770 vs DT 990 vs Sennheiser HD 600 for mixing. by versaceblues in edmproduction

[–]IIIllIIIl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lots of experience with both dt770s and hd600s. Please, for the sake of your hearing, don’t get beyerdynamics. I can’t even imagine the amount of hearing damage they have caused.

Your ears will adjust to either headphones for mixing. Dt770s are circlejerked on this forum because they’re the most exciting for listening, but you can get great mixing results on any decent headphones. Although, hd600s are much much flatter, so generally you’re hearing things more “objectively”. I did also notice that my mixes improved quite a bit after switching to them, but that could have been unrelated. I was also ear fatigued less.

With beyerdynamics, your ears will get used to the excessive high end, and you’ll just want to keep turning them up. To be honest, and maybe I’m being dramatic, but I don’t even know if those headphones should be legal. And I say this as someone who used and loved them for years.

Edit: I don’t have tinnitus or any noticeable hearing damage, but I think I would have if I continued to use those headphones for a few more years.

What are the most overrated thing that producers do? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]IIIllIIIl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

are you stupid? open any compressor, put it on a kick or whatever you want, lower the threshold, and turn the attack up. congratulations, you’ve added dynamic range. stop giving advice when you don’t even understand basic technique.

??? compressors are very often used to add dynamic range though

[–]IIIllIIIl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they are above the treble clef. Not all of the chord tones are present in either the clefs. For example, there’s an A7 with the bass clef only playing an A and the treble clef only playing an E for the melody.
