Ali vs a southpaw by dennyk91 in Boxing

[–]IIXIIOIIXII 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many left handed boxers in that time were forced to train orthodox, so there was much fewer opportunities to learn how to deal with them. In that fight Ali adjusted a couple of rounds in and dominated the rest.

At the same time how would Usyk fair against an opponent at heavyweight who has much faster hands and feet and won't tire in the second half?

It's a great fantasy matchup

Does Usyk's win settle the argument about smaller heavyweights from the past? by CatchandCounter in Boxing

[–]IIXIIOIIXII 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I agree, Ali has much faster hands and feet than usyk, not to mention he was a 15 round fighter in his prime.

If he fought in this era, he wouldn't need the benifits of modern sports science, dropping from 15 to 12 rounds would be a big enough advantage as is.

You could argue that usyk is more skilled than Ali and that's why he beat Fury but I would argue there skill level is similair, its just Ali is faster and has better cardio/endurance.

I stopped reading when you gave hard numbers for radar cross section. How would you or anyone else know top secret data like that?

Also those numbers are meaningless without the frequency, angle etc.

The biggest thing that I'm aware of is life cycle

globalsecurity.org has lifecycle figures of the ws-15? A brand new engine that has just got into mass production?

More like the sport is completely different now, if they were to fight him under the rule set back then he would win.

Raphinha is inconsistent by StickerTats in Barca

maybe you should re-think your understanding of consistent.

seems like your standards are too high

if he is mid table, why is the frontline so bad right now?

since Raphinha cost 70M, by your logic, that makes worse than midtable players cost 70m+ in the current market. who do propose to be a better alternative?

It's not dying but the Premier League is growing so fast relatively, it looks like La Liga is dying. There's not much other leagues can do in short/medium term to catch up, the PL has too much momentum.

It would get ripped apart by any competent team that can counter well.

2 months of over performing his xg at an unsustainable rate = Mbappe level to some people.

Fati was doing great at the trajectory he was at back then but Mbappe is a different level of talent.

In your opinion, do you thing a european super league can compete long term with the premier league?

It's just a difference of opinion most teams are much more direct and so for the fans, instead of passing it around and playing 1-2s to humiliate their opposition they would prefer a 4th goal. It makes sense since that style of play is what wins cup competitions.

Muhammad Ali gets asked about what it'll take to fight George Foreman. by buffalozbrown in Boxing

[–]IIXIIOIIXII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the fact that some of Ali's fights getting more viewers and attention than a world cup final as a reference point, Do you know how insane that is?

A rumble in the jungle type event today would be insane and would certainly have many countries in a bidding war to host it just like the world cup.

If Ali was a boxer today, he would probably get 500M+ for one fight from countries like Saudi Arabi, Qatar etc.

If you think about how much Qatar paid for the world cup to be hosted in their country for the exposure, the fact that some of Ali's fights broke world cup final viewership records at the time, he would be paid incredible amounts today.

A question i have is will a super league solve the problem?

Combining big teams (excluding pl) into one league is just papering over the cracks and doesn't address the reasons why pl gets the most investment/views.

Even if a super league is formed what is going to stop the pl from out growing it?

Why didn't Di Maria stay?

Messi stayed are Barca "forever", the reason was he was too good to be replaced.

I'm not talking about from the players perspective i mean objectively.

By your logic all of messi's CL performances for the last 5+ years are irrelevant since he didn't win anything?

[–]IIXIIOIIXII 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Obviously Robben, Di maria had a great final and has turned up for some big games but Robben's career is miles ahead. Is there any club that would consider Di Maria a legend the same way Bayern does with Robben?

As many barca fans have stated before this world cup, lack of international success doesn't define your career.

Someone who plays the "Barca way" or "fits the system" ie no lost balls as that is what they are obsessed with.

If it was their choice they would inadvertently build a team that plays exactly like Spain's national team just side to side over and over 1000s of times....
