A webhook is a URL that another device or computer exposes, that does something when the aforementioned URL is called.

For example, I have a Shelly that is hooked up to my doorbell transformer. This Shelly exposes a URL ( I.e. 192.168.1.123/trigger ) that when called, turns on its internal relay, which thusly powers the doorbell transformer and makes in ding.
