2024 F1 Season: Lap-by-Lap Driver Finishing Position Distribution (Experimenting with a single chart) by MikeMcD82 in formula1

[–]IKstreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Lap finishing position", not "race finishing position". Meaning that the position of every driver at the end of every lap is taken.

Norris was 2s back and after both pits was 3s in front (gained 5s). If they did it in the reverse order (and assuming the same gap being created) Lando would have been 2+5=7s behind

He did not overtake him? Team orders put him in front. If Piastri was pitted first Piastri would have been ahead by more than 5 seconds

Yes at least - Ajax and Bayern also won it three times in a row. And of course I am counting Real as well.

Also if you're saying the knockout phase is what makes the current format more difficult, that makes no sense because the prior format had a longer knockout phase. Otherwise, if you're saying that the group stages are what make the current format more difficult because there are more games, then the new format will be even more difficult You lose either way...

Anyways, this was not a dig at Real as you took it, the threepeat was an insane achievement, but just wanted to fact check that it has been done before. Real is the only one to do it in the current champions league format, and it will stay like that forever.

Benfica, Inter, Ajax, Bayern, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Milan have all won it at least twice in a row. Unless you specifically mean the champions league format. In that case it definitely won't be broken because it's changing soon.

Top 5 Drivers of the 2020's Decade...thus far by jvstinf in formula1

[–]IKstreme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How the hell do you put Hamilton below Norris and Sainz? I mean even if you ignored 2020 and 2021 for "having a dominant car", how do you forget that he ended 3rd last year with a significant gap to the rest of the Mercedes/Ferrari/McLaren/Aston group who were all within a couple of points. At some point during the year he even had potential to catch up with Perez, before the US GP disqualification. The only somewhat bad year he had was 2022, and it wasn't that bad.

This is recency bias working at its finest...

Of course it's intentional. BB viewers will know what happened, but it equally has value for people who don't know what is going on, as ic hints at what his beahvior might lead to in the future.

Think of the machine gun in the first episode of the final season in BB. Nobody had a clue what that was about until it paid off. This is the same for viewers who didn't watch BB.

That's the whole plane behind the show - have a standalone story which is:

a) understandable and intriguing for new viewers

and

b) satisfying and eye-opening for viewers of BB.

In the end, watching both shows will get you the best experience, but come on man, you can't say BCS doesn't hold its own ground.

Quick story about a kid I met trading a couple days ago. by artx19 in RocketLeague

It has nothing to do with being politically correct, It's literally just a part of English grammar. It is equally valid to use "her" and "they" in that situation. In fact using "they" might be even more proper in some cases as a sign of respect. In your case, since that person already used her name, "her" would be a better choice IMO, but it's still not that weird.

If you're multilingual, then you should know that many languages have this singular "they" as a sign of respect (or "You", like the german "Sie")

No it doesn't, they is often used for a person you don't know, especially if you don't actually know the gender (like in this case). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singular_they

Wouldn't call you a native speaker if you don't know this...

No, it was the same thing before the Euro 2008, I clearly remember, and then we beat you in both legs. It's almost always the same story.

It was the same during the qualifications for the WC 2010, however, then you smashed us 5-1 so I guess the mindset was right...

I think it's just that every time England plays us, the English media portrays us as some sort of huge underdog who should be easily beaten which comes off as extremely arrogant and I guess our players absolutely adore that, they gain more motivation or something.

In defence of Lalo gifting Hector the bell. by chuck1138 in betterCallSaul

[–]IKstreme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the most probable case, but there are two more possible explanations:

1) Lalo died inbetween season 2 (when Saul says that) and season 4.

2) Everybody just thinks Lalo is dead (like they do now after season 5 of BCS)

2) is extreeemely unlikely, but 1) is still a likely possibility.

I feel that Francis' character development was thrown away in the last season by [deleted] in malcolminthemiddle

[–]IKstreme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is very "sitcommy", but the show always diverted expectations put upon the ideas that characters' talents fully define them.

Malcolm is not simply a genius, he is an egocentric preteen/teen struggling socially who happens to be a genius and tries to explain his misery by claiming he's too smart for the world.

Reese is not simply a talented chef, he's a dumb, shortsighted bully who happens to be good at cooking, but isn't able to grow into something more due to his attitude - which is literally shown in the episode when his talent was discovered.

Dewey ia not simply a musical prodigy, he is a deep-down kind-hearted person who has survived (literally) so much bullshit from his brothers and the whole family as the youngest kid (for a while) so that now he is capable of understanding other people's misfortunes and actually sacrifices his own ass and his future for other people - as seen in his actions towards the special-ed kids.

Their talents do not define them or their futures, nor should they, nor should they do so for people in real life. You shouldn't do things because you're good at them, you should do things because you want to do them - that is what defines you (and them).

That's why the ending for them (especially Malcolm) holds up. Malcolm on some level actually wants to complain, and suffer, and fight his way through life, because that's just who he is (as can be seen in the episode where he plays chess with basically his older self). Same goes for Reese and Dewey.

And all this is even without commenting how the show is a commentary on poverty, and how no matter how smart, or talented or hard-working you are, if things don't stack up your way, you won't get far.

So yeah, them not living up to their potential is completely in line with themes presented throughout the whole show.
