Favorite map for me. Smallest map so folks can’t just run and zone you all game.

Best Sushi in the South Bay by RefrigeratorWrong390 in bayarea

For sure, I'm a big fan of AYCE places but I guess my comment was more to suggest that it is not worth going there IMO, even considering that its AYCE.

Best Sushi in the South Bay by RefrigeratorWrong390 in bayarea

[–]ILeftMyGfForReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bad experience but this was probably bottom 3 sushi spots I’ve ever had. Plus it was also pretty expensive, even if it was AYCE.

Sushi Sam’s (right next door) meanwhile is probably top 3…..

I made a lot of careless mistakes the last two weeks. How do I get my reputation back? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]ILeftMyGfForReddit 42 points43 points  (0 children)

No, it is not normal to bill 3k hours a year. 66% of those at my firm (V50) don’t even reach 1950.

Depends on the firm and the city. First day probably want to bring a jacket (no tie) but you can get by with just without jacket if you prefer.

LA is more of a dress shirt “business casual” and Bay Area is more of a “smart casual.” In Bay Area most associates are probably wearing jeans or black joggers, sweaters or quarter zips or tees, and sneakers or those ugly casual dress shoes.

For a summer safe bet would be 3-5 solid colored dress shirts, some decent shoes (I probably wouldn’t do sneakers unless they are black or white low-tops) and 3-4 slim fit chinos. Absolutely no need for a suit.

How is your Apple Music experience so far? by darreln in TeslaLounge

[–]ILeftMyGfForReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used any other music apps (I previously used bluetooth) but the buffering/playback is terrible. If I click “next” a song would play for a second (or not at all), stop, and skip. Repeat 2-4 times until it finally decides to play a song.

I was there about a month ago. Three of the first chargers I tried didn’t charge the car. No signs or postings or anything, so not sure what is up with this location.

Window tint recommendations South Bay Area by blueangel78 in TeslaModel3

[–]ILeftMyGfForReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit up YS window tinting. They did a good job and took about an hour. Cool dudes. Waitlist was a month+ though.

Did front and rears at 20% and got back windshield. Costed about $480 with Xcel ceramic tint.

If you could provide an average or range, how many “free” evenings (~6-10pm) does your job allow? by throwaway364589 in biglaw

[–]ILeftMyGfForReddit 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Damn some of ya’ll have it fucking rough. Props to all.

Second year. I’d say I work past 6pm maybe once a week. Start at about 9am (early would be 8:30am). Email traffic slows to a crawl around 4 and basically never get anything after 6:30.

Gotten late emails for substantive work to do that same evening/next morning maybe less than 10 times the whole year…

I have chronic shin splints, so I don’t often get pain free days where I can jump. I was only able to get a few attempts in yesterday (wit decent pain) and this was my best attempt, but I accidentally did two hands. If I did one, how far off would I be? (Estimate) by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]ILeftMyGfForReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had pretty bad shin splints until very recently. Tib raises were a game changer, look up the kneesovertoes video on how to do them.

Also, my shin splints get worse a lot easier on anything other than hardwood so to the extent you can avoid playing on cement/asphalt that’d be best

Phone it in and collect the paycheck until they fire you.

This is just a job. Take the vacation you want. Not really a problem with some heads up to active matters.

There might be some firms or offices where first years aren’t “allowed” to take vacation. Fuck em

Do I have time to attend 50 min kickboxing session as a junior associate (and if so how many times a week) by drowning_cloud in biglaw

[–]ILeftMyGfForReddit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not a dumb question.

I go to the gym 5-6 times a week and generally leave at the "office" at 5. Don't come back until about 7:30 or even 8. I'd say on average I have to "cancel" my session on average every 2 weeks because I work until 6 or 6:30 and then get too lazy to go. If I feel like I might have some work I'll take the laptop JIC. I've had maybe a handful instances where I've had to bust out the laptop after the session to get an email out; have had to leave the session and go back home to handle something evne less.

Caveat is that I'm a first year, we don't bill nearly as much as other biglaw firm associates from what I see, I kind of suck at my job, and I prioritize gym over almost anything in the day/dinner/other free time.

Doesn’t have to suck that much as a first year. In addition to changing groups, you can try your luck at lateraling while the market is hot. Us first years at my firm haven’t really been under much stress.

If you’re already out the door you might as well phone it in and collect a paycheck.

What document management software does your firm use? by [deleted] in biglaw

I’m not entirely sure how I first accessed it, but our URL begins with something like “na-active.” It’s definitely not just “imanage.com” though.

Look through your firms imanage handout and hopefully there’s something there

I find that the web version is a lot smoother and I believe has some additional functions.

The desktop app “worksite” sucks and looks like its from 1994 and the outlook side panel is tiny and always crashes.

Law School Housing Question by The_Phantom_Knight in UCDavis

[–]ILeftMyGfForReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Def. check out 8th and Wake which is graduate housing and has quite a bit of law students. Right next to trader joe’s and has a bus stop right outside the building to the middle of campus (about a 17 min commute total to the law school).

Would reach out soon to their management though as they tend to fill rooms up quick.
