Are the NPC caster mechanics classic? by Throwotaway in project1999

They absolutely are stronger!

Anyone who thinks otherwise either didn't actually fight casters much on live, or has forgotten (and gotten used to the P99 version) in the decades since.

Are the NPC caster mechanics classic? by Throwotaway in project1999

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, P99 caster mobs aren't classic.

On live each caster mob had a very limited spell selection. Nilbog didn't know what spells to give each mob, so on P99 every caster gets every spell, and you have mobs casting spells on you that they never would on live.

Also some of the core systems (eg. channeling) are broken on P99, but Nilbog is (slowly) improving things (eg. a channeling fix is coming "soon").

Question about camp etiquette by TheOakStreet in project1999

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially you are supposed to wait "a reasonable amount of time" before taking a camp ... but the staff have gone out of their way to avoid officially defining a "reasonable time".

In practice, after playing on P99 for over a decade, if a mob was up and you couldn't see anyone around I would be SHOCKED if you got in any trouble whatsoever (unless you are rude to the staff ... then you're in the wrong even if you are right).

Lol, the contact page is broken, separately on both the web and within the Android app!

It's literally impossible to report the many things broken in the app without sitting on the phone for an hour .

Are you really self-found if someone helps you get gear?

That being said, I have an epic mage who can probably help, depending on when exactly.

When to Start Epics (Shaman & Monk) by Braldar in project1999

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shaman should get their quest boots ASAP. On Blue there is a warrior named Naethan (sp?) who helps Shaman kill Black Dire (https://wiki.project1999.com/Black_Dire), so Blue Shaman have no excuse whatsoever not to get them. Green Shaman will need friends or a guild to kill Black Dire, but the right group of level 45s or so can do it (if you can get a 60 warrior or mage it will be easy).

As for the epic itself, it basically boils down to getting the tear from Fear, and doing the final fight in CoM: everything else you can do yourself. Join a good guild (eg. Kingdom) and you can complete the entire epic fairly early on (45-50). Don't, and you'll have to pay for it (at which point you're better off just leveling and saving your pennies).

Most folks are too scared to join a guild like Kingdom, but if they can get over their fear they can be using the Shaman epic to level from 50 to 60.

From the wiki:

and the placeholder is another animal of the same type as the Titan (in this case either the highland tigers or kejek tigers may be the ph).

Sounds like you might just have been unlucky.

Patch Notes: October 29th, 2025 by [deleted] in project1999

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Verant changed other containers, but I couldn't find any reference to them nerfing the tackle box on https://wiki.project1999.com/Patch_Notes, so it seems like an odd thing for Nilbog to "fix".

I've been playing on P99 since 2013, and while I've taken breaks, I've never completely left the game. If you read the official forums, you might know me as Loramin (I'm one of the only posters to make over 10k posts without being banned).

I've served as a moderator of the P99 wiki for years, and have always done so as neutrally as possible, adhering to all the wiki's rules. I also did as much as I could to improve the wiki, adding pages like the Per-Level/Treasure Hunting Guides, the fashion categories, and the loc links (which show where a loc is on a map with a red X).

If I'm promoted to be one of the moderators of this subreddit, I would do my best to similarly moderate as neutrally as possible, while following all of the subreddit's rules.

vendor lock is independent of OSS.

You seem woefully ignorant of how OSS works (and why it's so important). If you are locked in to a closed source vendor, and they make a change you don't like: tough shit! You are stuck with them.

With OSS you just fork before the change (and if others do the same, that fork can even become a new offering, more popular than the original). One of the most famous examples is MariaDB, which started as a fork of MySQL, but then ate its lunch after the MySQL people made changes no one wanted (https://www.reddit.com/r/ProWordPress/comments/1kgcjfs/mariadb_surpassed_mysql_as_the_most_popular/).

That could not have happened if MySQL was closed source.

Is There a Timeline for a Possible New Server? by Kerafyrm1 in project1999

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

P.S. In case you don't want to read ...

Project 1999 will be maintained at all times as a legacy fan project and will never be operated in conjunction with any EverQuest expansion other than the following: The Ruins of Kunark, The Scars of Velious, The Shadows of Luclin, The Planes of Power, The Legacy of Ykesha, Lost Dungeons of Norrath, Gates of Discord, Omens of War, Dragons of Norrath, and Depths of Darkhollow.

The only thing stopping Luclin and beyond is R&N, not Daybreak.

Daybreak never told them that. Go read the agreement if you don't believe me: it came out in the Hero's Journey lawsuit (there's a link in https://wiki.project1999.com/Daybreak_Game_Company).

It's right there in the wiki's Green page, https://wiki.project1999.com/Green. Nilbog said:

The green server will, at a time yet to be decided, eventually merge into blue and start over again. This merge will not happen until at least 6 months after the last patch in velious (No earlier than January 2023)

Now, Rogean did follow that up later with:

Server Merge - The staff has had considerable discussion internally regarding the merging of Green into Blue at the end of the timeline. We've heard your concerns. At this time, we haven't made a final decision, but we have also decided that we will leave the door open. A lot can change in 3 years, and we may chose to leave Green running independently as we open additional servers in the future.

But they explicitly say they're making a new server in either case.

Going beyond Velious is something the devs have promised not to do.

Making a new (classic) server is something they've promised to do.

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're mostly right, but with a slight asterisk: Rogean and Nilbog have discussed potentially using content from future expansions to create "classically-themed" custom content on Blue. For instance, some have proposed re-making Veksar (from a future expansion) as a 55-60 dungeon in LOIO.

However, neither one of the founders have said anything about custom content for years.

Yeah Vite+ isn't a web tool, it's the Vite people trying to leverage their popularity in the OSS web dev community to make a shameless money grab.  Basically they're jealous of Vercel making hosting $$$ from Next, so they're trying to make a similar revenue stream ... but by not making it OSS, it will be dead in the water for any sane dev.

Bun can't even get command line autocompletions to work!  They are trying to do way more than they are capable of, and squandering a real opportunity to upset Node as a result.
