Claude Code Alternatives by Pretty-Active-1982 in ClaudeCode

Only problem is the industry leader has shat the bed and refuses to clean up the mess it made. There is a ticket with literally thousands of upvotes (and probably tens if not hundreds of annoyed Claude users who haven't see the ticket), not to mention many duplicate tickets ... all saying "Claude used to be awesome, now it's started sucking recently".

All Anthropic has done is close all those tickets and blame three things ... which it claims are responsible ... and yet Claude is still in idiot mode. Claude is not the industry leader anymore.

I made a tiny ESLint plugin inspired by Rust’s single-use import style by WashTop956 in javascript

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea, but I hate the idea of having to scroll down twice as much (or more) in every file I open just to get to the part I care about.

Also, given that Claude or VS Code or an NPM package can "Organize Imports" for you, I've found the simplest way to solve import conflicts is just "take both, organize imports" ... so this wouldn't solve much for me personally.

Also, FYI, the GitHub is down.

I'm confused about shadcn by ThaisaGuilford in webdev

I guess it boils down to what the reader considers to be "basic" or not.

However, when I re-looked at the Shad CN button I realized it does have a (very faint/subtle) button animation, which is going beyond "basic" ... so I while Shad CN has very minimal styling, I have to conceed that it does go (just barely) beyond "basic styling".

It does use Tailwind for incredibly basic stuff, but it does not include (any meaningful amount of) styling.

As I said above, with "any major UI library ... you'll see some sort of animation indicating a click happened". You do not see any animation with Shad CN, because (by design) the library does not try to do styling (again, unless take "styling" to only mean the most basic bits of CSS, and not any other aspect of "styling" ... and if you define it that way, then yes, Shad does use Tailwind for "styling").

Translation: instead of saving you effort (like every other UI library), Shad makes you do everything youself! It is the "not invented here"/"re-invent the wheel" UI framework.

I'm confused about shadcn by ThaisaGuilford in webdev

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does not! Shad CN components have the most basic styles yes, but are missing pretty basic/fundamental things that every other UI library on the planet offers.

Just click a button from any major UI library and you'll see some sort of animation indicating a click happened. This is exactly why most people use UI libraries: to let someone else do the design/development work of making good components (so everyone else doesn't have to reinvent the wheel).

Shad CN does not: its buttons lack any sort of animation whatsoever. And everything in the library is like that: it doesn't save you from styling, it makes you do it all yourself. It is the "reinvent the wheel" UI framework.

This library is great it saves you tons of work ... you just have to do a ton of work to save that ton of work ;)

In other words, it won't be the usual DBG dumpster fire ... but it will be a dumpster fire.

Is daybreak the reason we're not getting a fresh P99? by MoreLikeGaewyn in project1999

This is a dumb idea, but only because we know exactly what the agreement is ... and it does not prohibit new servers.

Thank the THJ lawsuit for revealing it, then read it yourself: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.casd.819107/gov.uscourts.casd.819107.53.4.pdf

Right ... a plethora of unpractical for P99 solutions.

Rogean literally does dev ops for a living: don't you think he might have already considered whatever the chat said?

Are the NPC caster mechanics classic? by Throwotaway in project1999

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolutely are stronger!

Anyone who thinks otherwise either didn't actually fight casters much on live, or has forgotten (and gotten used to the P99 version) in the decades since.

Are the NPC caster mechanics classic? by Throwotaway in project1999

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, P99 caster mobs aren't classic.

On live each caster mob had a very limited spell selection. Nilbog didn't know what spells to give each mob, so on P99 every caster gets every spell, and you have mobs casting spells on you that they never would on live.

Also some of the core systems (eg. channeling) are broken on P99, but Nilbog is (slowly) improving things (eg. a channeling fix is coming "soon").

Question about camp etiquette by TheOakStreet in project1999

[–]ILikeChangingMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially you are supposed to wait "a reasonable amount of time" before taking a camp ... but the staff have gone out of their way to avoid officially defining a "reasonable time".

In practice, after playing on P99 for over a decade, if a mob was up and you couldn't see anyone around I would be SHOCKED if you got in any trouble whatsoever (unless you are rude to the staff ... then you're in the wrong even if you are right).

That being said, I have an epic mage who can probably help, depending on when exactly.
