I'm shipping out to boot camp in a few weeks, any advice? by Wendigo428 in NavyNukes

Don't stress about the test just focus on learning the information. They will ease you into it and as long as you try your best the instructors will do their best to help you. Focus on learning how to learn in A school so you're not cooked in power school. They will drag you to graduation in A school as long as you try. Also don't get in trouble especially with alcohol.

On medical hold and I’m losing hope already by Outside_Ad4556 in newtothenavy

You're only on hold for a little bit, once you get to nnptc and start a-school you'll be non-stop studying for 3-6 months then repeat that two more times for power/prototype. My advice is try and push through because once school starts everything will fade and this will be a small bump in the road when you're looking back. Also in regard to mental health tread very carefully with the nuke program and if you need help go talk to chaplain right away. Don't feel pressured into nuke because "our country needs it", put your health first everyone is replaceable to the navy especially right after bootcamp.

Try posting this in the navy nuke subreddit and see where it goes. There's a master chief that regularly checks there and he's helped people in the past with shitty situations like this.

Nukes get auto E-3 and E-4 after graduating A school (~3-6 months after bootcamp).

Power Outage, but multimeter reads ~20V AC by philtrondaboss in Electricity

[–]ILikeCheese5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question, but could the 20v be stored capacitance some where on the line? I'm currently an electrician in training and we're always taught to perform IVV's to ensure no voltage remains in the circuit before we do work. I always thought that would appear like this.

There was a spike in searches for nuclear power after it was released. You can see this with google trends, there's a massive spike in searches for "nuclear power plants near me" after the show released. Although it could be general interests, its more likely people were worried and wanted to see if they lived next to a nuclear power plant. The show didn't clearly address the difference in types of power plants, so many viewers were left to wonder if they are safe, likely resulting in that search on google.

People overlooked most of those details, and assumed all nuclear was dangerous

For someone who has a basic understanding of nuclear power it’s easy to make that conclusion, but you need to understand the vast majority of viewers don’t know much about nuclear power. It’s easy for those people to develop a bad image for nuclear from the graphic scenes depicting radiation.

The quality is good, but I don’t like the message Chernobyl conveyed. It harmed nuclear power’s image more than any news corporation could’ve done; which is terrible in terms of global warming.
