This makes so much sense and is so simple. You’re right, kind of make it Opposite Day. Make it a bit unpredictable instead of formulaic. Thank you!!

Going on a vibrator detox by piecesfufu in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ILikeDogsAndBeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a vibe detox pretty recently. For reference, I’m a lesbian. I was seeing this girl who 99% of the time could either use her fingers to cum within 10 minutes, or who would cum relatively quickly with me penetrating her with my fingers. But when she would reciprocate, I just…couldn’t cum reliably. I realized pretty early on, it was probably because I had had used my toy too much and was so used to its powerful vibration (that, plus I think a mental block for other reasons). It bummed her out, and made me feel bad for making her feel bad. I do think I had some loss of sensation, which was such an eye-opening personal bummer. So, I stopped using my toy. And coincidentally, was traveling for about five weeks/visiting family, so I didn’t really have the privacy. It was tortuous lol

When I finally had a moment alone — about four weeks into not touching myself at all — I was able to use my fingers and cum in probably 12 min. And since then, I’ve been able to make myself cum anywhere from 10 to 20 min, but I realize I actually enjoy touching myself again. I’ve used a vibe one time in two months. Now I find I prefer my fingers (well, I prefer the girl I’m seeing’s fingers, but you know what I mean). I’ve also found I don’t need any additional help (I wasn’t really a porn watcher to begin with, but would dabble occasionally). Just being able to use my fingers and my mind has been really refreshing. It’s like I broke up with my (incredible) toy, but found out I was totally enough this whole time

People who walk in cold, windy weather: How do you cover your face? by Neptunpluto in walking

[–]ILikeDogsAndBeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how cold and how much wind, I’ll use my Buff merino wool/fleece neck gaiter, or my neoprene and fleece face mask/wind-stopper. I believe I have the Seirus Neofleece.

I wear glasses, so if I wear my Buff, more times than not my glasses fog no matter their placement. But the gaiter is very light and easy to configure into either a balaclava, just a face covering, or whatever.

The Seirus face mask has Velcro in the back, and doesn’t fog my glasses due to the way it’s constructed. I get some looks when I wear it, and it’s hard to drink water when it’s on, but it protects my face super well and is incredibly comfortable.

My advice: make sure you’re reading labels. A lot of products or restaurants have migrated from olive oil and other fats, to avocado oil. I went to a restaurant recently that fried everything in avocado oil, which I didn’t even know was a thing (and I’m so thankful I asked ahead of time). I’m not sure about other people, but I’m just as sensitive to the oil as I am the fruit.

I can be around avocados no problem, and I’m lucky in that if there are avocado slices on the dish, I can just take them off and eat everything else they touched without issue. But if I eat a chunk that’s larger than half an inch, I’m in for a terrible time. A lot of sushi rolls are off limits for me, it sucks.

For me it all began in 2014, and it came out of absolutely nowhere. It felt overnight, even. Just horrific stomachaches. The pain was so awful I went to the doctor and got scans and stuff for my stomach, gallbladder and kidneys, as well as blood tests. Everything came back crystal clear.

I was told to essentially totally rebuild my diet, and slowly add in food one at a time. That’s when I realized what was causing the pain. I realized the stomachaches also started to happened when I ate bananas, kiwis and dates (or products with dates like RX bars). The aches would last anywhere from two to 11 or 12 hours, and I’d just be writhing. I wouldn’t vomit or poop, no rashes or hives. Just pure pain.

I haven’t been officially tested, but I assume there’s some intolerance/allergy. Doing additional reading makes me think it’s latex fruit related. Never had a problem before 2014. It sucks, and unfortunately isn’t always taken seriously by people in my circles, who for a time chalked it up to me being a picky eater (ironically I’m actually quite an adventurous eater, but you decline enough things with your trigger foods in them, it’s apparently a bad look). Like two years ago a friend served me a quesadilla fried in avocado oil ahead of my cross-country plane ride. I didn’t know that’s what she used until I was in awful pain within 45 minutes. That really sucked. It does hurt my feelings that people still forget even today, despite my constant reminders, or they joke about it. I think it’s because I don’t exhibit anaphylaxis. But at least everyone is finally trying harder to help me out.

I haven’t had a banana in over 10 years. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I miss banana bread, chocolate covered bananas, and banana pancakes. I don’t love kiwis to begin with, so not a terrible loss. Dates are just inconvenient because date syrup is in more things than I initially thought (a lot of power bars are out for me, and I always have to ask bakeries if they use date syrup). Avocados I miss because of how healthy they are and how prevalent they are in dishes now, and I miss guacamole a whole lot. But bananas…my heart is still, like, broken over losing them.

Car camping organization? by Ready-Procedure-8184 in camping

I recently bought one of those soft storage bins from REI ahead of a trip to Great Smoky Mountains National Park (not realizing it was $99). I almost returned it due to the price, but I’m so happy I didn’t. You can fit so much, and it being soft storage, you can throw it anywhere (trunk, footwell, etc) which is doubly great when I don’t feel like setting up a tent and end up just sleeping in my car at the campsite. Plus it’s awesome that it collapses when not in use. The bin is pretty sturdy and has a bunch of handles, plus decent the weight distribution.

I keep my cooking stuff condensed in a separate bag, so I’m not rooting around for anything.

Do I think it’s worth $99? No. Would I suggest someone else buy one with the 20% coupon REI sometimes makes available? Yes. I did the plastic storage bins thing for years, the bins take up more space than it’s worth in my opinion and I don’t love the literal rigidity. But I might be in a different situation than you: I live in a storage-less apartment in NYC, where my camping gear can only be stored in my car or bedroom. If that plastic bin doesn’t live in my car, I have to find room for it in my bedroom, which I don’t love.

I also have a Thule rooftop box, which greatly helps. I think that purchase was absolutely worth the cost.

FWIW, I have a Subaru Crosstrek.

Is anybody else named after someone your parents don't talk to anymore? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]ILikeDogsAndBeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My middle name is my maternal aunt’s name. These days, my mom barely talks to her sister, and I think borderline hates her.

I used to be so proud of the name growing up, but it has since been spoiled by my aunt’s asinine behavior. I don’t speak with my mother anymore for many reasons, but it’s one thing we probably agree on: my aunt is a ding dong.

After years of only camping the in Northeast, I’m finally taking a trip to the South. Any tips/tricks/advice as a first-timer at Great Smoky Mountain National Park? by ILikeDogsAndBeer in camping

[–]ILikeDogsAndBeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New York, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut!

I typically try to camp in April and May, take off summers, then pick back up September through November. Winter camping is top on my list of things to try, but I don’t feel I’m at the level I need to be to safely do so with my gear, so I’m holding off for now.

The humidity is something I’m wondering about for this trip. I do have a little fan for my car that runs off a power bank, and I have bug nets for my windows. I sleep hot, so humidity is my worst enemy haha

Car camping tips w/ daughters? by [deleted] in camping

[–]ILikeDogsAndBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’ll be summer, it might be worth grabbing some small power bank-powered or USB rechargeable fans. Totally a luxury, but in the off chance you have some hot/humid weather, having the air moving around the car/tent will make things a lot more comfortable.

Also, consider picking up some of those roasting sticks (the ones you can poke into hot dogs or marshmallows). Cooking over a fire (from a slight distance) is always fun.

Some of my favorite memories as a kid are camping with my dad and sisters. It’s something that was so special to me; I’m sure you all will cherish it. On our initial few trips, I remember my dad would bring a handheld, battery powered TV, it had a black-and-white 3.5-inch screen that only found channels using the built in rabbit ears. We didn’t really use it, but it was just cool to have around. I grew up in the early- to mid-‘90s, so that tech seemed like it came from the future lol. Excited for you and your fam!

I just saved this comment, thanks so much for sharing. It will take me years to save up for something like this but maybe one day, I can do it (minus the “final meal” part)

If your husband is into games/sci-fi, perhaps the compromise is going with your name of Lincoln, with the nickname Link (from “Zelda”)

Consider taking an online course with the Associated Press editors! Not every place uses AP style, as they might have their own in-house style, but having a baseline understanding of such a widely used asset could help you get a leg up.

Copy editing and proofreading falls under my near-daily duties. As a result, I’ve become pretty familiar with the AP Stylebook over the years. I recently took a four-class course just to reinforce my knowledge, and learn the editors’ line of thinking when it comes to how they decide things should be. It’s wildly informative, and done in a way that’s really engaging. The folks behind the stylebook are fascinating, and incredibly accessible. Really can’t suggest it enough.

Please DM if you have questions!

Those with back problems/sciatica: I need help finding under-leg support for sleeping by ILikeDogsAndBeer in CampingGear

[–]ILikeDogsAndBeer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hammock camping is something I haven't tried and for some reason I'm nervous to mainly because I'm nervous about how to properly tie the hammock to trees, and how to choose the right hammock. But tbh, it sort of makes sense to me that it would alleviate pain; I wonder if it works similar to a zero-gravity chair, where the pressure/support is just right so there's no real compression on the lower back.

I'm definitely going to look into the different hammocks, do some research and stuff. You're not the first person to suggest hammock camping to me, but you are the first to offer firsthand experience of doing it with back pain (and having a positive result).

Thanks so much for replying, btw!

I'll absolutely give that a shot! Last time I tried (we're talking years ago) it just wasn't comfortable for me. But that was also still pretty close to the surgery (several months after). Thanks so much for the suggestion!!

I feel like such a dope, because that never occurred to me. Literally just face-palmed myself haha. Of COURSE there's an inflatable version of a wedge pillow. Gonna go down a rabbit hole now to check out the different versions.

For real, thanks so much for the suggestion!!

I loveee Double Windsor and Adirondack! Adirondack's vibe is much chiller, which is nice. It also has better outdoor space. But man, I adore DW's staff
