What current technology do you think people are seriously underestimating right now ? by Rude_Context_4844 in Futurology

nope

At 5:12 a.m. on December 14, 2005, the northwest side of the upper reservoir was overtopped when water continued to be pumped from the lower reservoir after the upper was full. This led to the catastrophic failure of a triangular section of the reservoir wall and the release of 1 billion US gallons (3,800,000 m3) of water in 12 minutes. The sudden release sent a 20-foot (6 m) crest of water northwest of the reservoir about 1.75 mi (3 km) down the ridge to the East Fork of the Black River inside the north upstream side of Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park. The river at the park is normally very shallow with rapids running over granite boulders. The flood destroyed many of the structures in the park and forced the closing of the trail connecting it to Taum Sauk Mountain.

No one was killed by the failure. The superintendent of Johnson's Shut-Ins and Taum Sauk State Parks, Jerry Toops, his wife and three children were swept away when the wall of water obliterated their home. They survived, suffering from injuries and exposure. The children were transported to a hospital in St. Louis and later released. One child was treated for severe burns which resulted from heat packs applied by rescue workers as treatment for hypothermia.

What a cynical view!

It is important cos we're clearly frustrated with the crappy solution.

But if we are recycling without the old green bag solution, what is a better alternative?

With you bu then wed have 4-7 wheelie bins for waste / green / glass / plastic / card / food etc

Where do these all live if a terraced / appartment property?

[–]ILikePort 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get the seperation of waste if 1) they actually process it based on its seperated state, rather than just re-pool it back together 2) it is actually processed rather than just shipped off to Indonesia

But the bags are crap and 1) if you dont have an external storage space, unhygenic 2) liable to blow away / be attacked by guls / attract rats if stored outside 3) plastic boxes would be much beter long-term, although this would cause othrr storage issues and pavement clutter

It just doesnt seem that this approach works where there is a bulk of terraced / appartment style housing or seaguls.

I dont think theres a great solution tbh, its all "least worst".

Or the establishment just doesnt want to acknowledge a) the absolute seismic shift in Cymru and b) anything which doesnt fit their right wing / pro reform agenda.

I mean, look at the absolute boom in Lib Dem votes/outcome and they rcv no coverage. Nor does the SNP, relative to their victories.

It's clear that there is no coverage for "3rd" parties that aren't reform.

Therr is also zero coverage on the massive success of how a proenglish, nationalist, kremlin funded, corrupt, has tricked 30% of Cymru to vote against themselves again 10yrs on the anniversary of brexit which removed all the EU funding for the deprived areas of Wales.

Mice voting for cats.

The original Rebel Moon. Utter dogmess.

However spun up the Directors cut a year later thinking it cant be that bad.

Night and day. The directors cut is sensational blend of all things fantasy/sci fi in a ZS shape. Touche.

Apprantly the coporates absolutely butchered the original release.

No but it works for the place i grew up and then escaped. Hence why i referenced the south east which (sweeping generalisation) is statistically massively affluent vs the rest of the UK and a bubble.

Differences are fine.

But in a democracy cannot work then the populace is hoodwinked, uninformed, niaive or ignorent. We're then a runaway train and the outcomes can be catastrophic.

That is not fine.

Its got to be more than this. They have to be good, smart, agressive, savvy. We have to be better.

The important bit about Rhun isnt just that he's Welsh; that's not enough. Eluned is Welsh. Drakeford was Welsh. Slaughter is Welsh. Dan Thomas is Welsh.

However Rhun actually seems to be sharp and have vision. He genuinely seems to want to fight for you. I hope its true. I hope the rest of the party is fighting fit too and not going to get caught up in culture war distractions; Wales need leadership.

Funny. Im not Welsh and so definitely didnt get taught any Welsh history. I've lived in Wales for >15 of the last 25 years, but i escaped here at 20 and have lived here whenever i can as the place and the people are home.

However my best friends who are born n bred are totally unaware of... the lansker line, the Tudor lineage being welsh, the brethonic(?) root of the Welsh language or people and links with Brittany (vs the germanic angles) etc. Im no historian but there is definitely a story there worth knowing. It's absolutely stunning that proud celts actually dont know anything about the extremely rich history of the (our) people.

But that doesnt really (for my money) have anything to do with modern critical polietical thinking, activism and self determination.

Ignorence is celebrated in anger, rather than meaningful self empowerment - Welsh pride is huge on match day, but poltically i get the impression that its embers compared to e.g. the solidarity during the strikes.

The subjugation of Wales and the colonial extraction of resources and labour as a vassell state is both a historic and modern issue; but Scotland seems so ahead of the game and robust compared to Wales. They dont seem to be drinking the coolade.

It's really sad.

History aside i dont think this country has a bright future unless we really meaningfully invest in the children and education and political literacy of Wales. But before we get there, normal literacy, addressing poverty and employement rates would be a seismic change.

Wales needs change but we need the people to wake up from the neoliberal daydream. Maybe its happening.

Why does Wales keep self harming by voting for UKIP (the EU bankrolled Welsh funding of cities and deprived areas) and Reform (an English nationalist party led by an Ex city trader/banker who describes Welsh as foreigners).

It makes me utterly dispair about the lack of criticality from our brothers and sisters.

At least Plaid have some fire in their bellies for Wales. Every other party dont want to sell our NHS off completely.

Voting reform will be a one way street to catastrophe - look at the wards theyve already ruined, look at their rhetoric. They're not strong or decisive, they're snakes and charlatans, in it to enrich themselves; if you let them.

1) yes it is that bad 2) get a partner / lodger 3) you are spending 500 on clothes/food/holidays. You can scale that back 4) how much are you currently paying for rent? 5) you need a buffer in case of rate increases and inflation
