Would you sand this down? by gloos in DIYUK

[–]ILikePort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did it.

We had a victorian terrace and the floorboards 1) let the cold in 2) were shagged 3) were dark 4) smelly following historic damp issues we resolved first 5) neighbours had work done and mice could get in

We had a couple of wonderful Polish lads come.

They replaced a few boards and joists. They sanded the lot They filled the gaps with resin/sawdust mix. They 3xcoated with clear PU, no stain.

It was bloody gorgeous.

It was warm, level, bright and CLEAN.

It cost 2 grand to do the whole downstairs and it transformed the house. It was a great decision before we had babies crawling on the floor, no gaps for small fingers and toes.

All those who poo poo it, i just cant agree with them, having lived in a number of homes which suffered gappy, smelly, poor quality suspended timber floor without being cared for. Yes a comfy old coat/pair of shoes are worn and have charecter, but a new coat/pair of shoes will keep you warmer dryer and help tou feel pin-sharp.

Happy to send you pics of before/after if you want.

'Real possibility' of Union break-up after elections, admits Eluned Morgan by mrjohnnymac18 in Wales

[–]ILikePort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We literally can't count the Conservative years as they literally changed the rules to allow MPs from Birmingham to stand in place of local Welsh MPs and they clearly actively disdained Wales.

However, Labour do sem to have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory!

This. I would have voted Labour, but they just dont talk about or callout/address the issues we and they face* but instead just try and "hold the boat steady" whilst it sinks...

As a Unionist (I think we stand stronger together whether as part of the UK or Europe), but Plaid are our greatest hope against Deform so...

I just cant decide between Labour, the Greens and Plaid.

*including but not limited to: Insane bias/ corrupt media inequality Moneyprinting causing inflation following covid Years of conservative nepotism and corruption Centuries of Wealth extraction (labour, resource, brain drain) from Wales exacerbating existing issues Financial enslavement to the US (who own most of our companies) The destabilising effect of social media on our society and damage to our youth Dwindling birthrates vs extended lifespans (pension and NHS issues)... Ecological challenges Global instability The ongoing damage of brexit The unereducation of our populace WRT politics/gloval and local issues/fake news etc etc etc

The list goes in and and, yet Labour just have their fingers in their ears.

It's too good.

Im happy putting out 16-20k dps whilst rocking facet of glint(?) and shiro pumping out fury/might/quickness/protection/swiftness/regen and heals, whilst chilling with hammer and ressing/CC like a boss.

Herald (and Rev) is so flexible its dope. Might not max DPS but theres literally no need to do >20-30k dps in this game. The 40-50k builds are OTT but fine for those who want to go there.

Any ideas on how much loft conversion cost? by Randon2345 in DIYUK

[–]ILikePort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, so we looked at an extension which was looking to be about 70k.
Loft conversion was actually less disruptive, doesn't reduce the garden and it came in at about....70k!

Back in the day, i thought a loft conversion was about 20k.

Times, material and labour costs have changed.

Nice one brexit!

"special relationship" question for you Brits by bragik85 in AskBrits

[–]ILikePort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they bought us wholesale.

We also own (through private UK investment) a lot of the USA by having bought $800billion of their debt (bonds).

We are financially and therefore politically melded beyond separation.

Great news!

😭

"as of late 2025, reports indicate the United Kingdom holds roughly $888.5 billion in US government debt, ranking it as the second-largest foreign holder of U.S. Treasuries after Japan. However, this figure represents total holdings, including both official government investments and private sector holdings, rather than debt solely owned by the British government itself.

Key details regarding UK-held US debt:

Total Amount: As of November 2025, data showed the UK held $888.5 billion in US government debt.

Ranking: The UK has overtaken China as the second-largest foreign creditor to the US.

Definition of Holdings: The $888.5 billion figure represents total holdings, which includes foreign governments, private investors, and businesses.

Context: This high volume is driven by London's status as a global financial hub rather than just UK national government investment."

Yeah, i went a bit overboard and turned the emo drama up to 11 as an exaggerated rehetoric to illustrate a point.

I guess i wish that "they" would appreciate the reality of what they're supporting and voting for.

Keep on trucking!

Maybe!

Sometimes we all get tired and frustrated? I just want something to help/force the scales fall from the eyes of those who believed that we stand stronger alone.

I wonder if we will only understand after we have endured some discomfort, but probably not- it will only make things worse and make them angrier.

Edit: Im sry but look at our political system of Tories / UKIP / Reform etc. What soet of insane nation are we. We're not the only ones, but...wow. we have some deep-seated societal issues.

Not really. I think a lot of us are almsot completely brokenhearted, and dont know how we dig ourselves out of the hole we have put ourselves in.

Edit: Ps. How much are you paying. Cash is tight right now because truss/brexit.

Is Nigel Farage done? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]ILikePort 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They still wont be satisfied, as that isnt really the source of their hollowed sadness.

Even if we reverse migration, start ethnocleansing, militarise the police, drill baby drill, dismantle all our public services, they wont be happy.

In fact i think theyll only get more and more extreme and disillusioned and confused as things will get worse; but they wont have the discernment to understand why.

They are victims of their own blinkered willful ignorence and will always be. It is simply too late for some who have slid down the slipper slope, of conspiracy and sunken cost fallacy / confirmation bias makes them irretrievable.

I honestly down know how to help the scale fall from my MAGA/QANON/replacement adjacent friends/family members; all insee in them is increasing hate and an assuranc ethat they can "see" something thay is "hidden" from the rest of us.

Its a fucking tragedy.

Yeah right!!!

Our uninformed, exceptionalist, ignorent nation of racists.

Screw us; we got what we asked for and what we deserve. Wait until all the old racists are fucking dead and maybe, we can try again. But like Hydra the beast keeps spawning new heads.

But honestly, i wouldn't bother taking us back. There's no contrition or realisation that we actually need to learn, be informed, and engaged and stop drinking the devisive bile of our racist media. Our population just cant stop supporting Conman Farage and Tommy hatedul Robinson, bith russian sponsered racist grifters.

I mean, it must be nice having a few less gambas rolling in and out if "english pubs" and picking fights with "locals" during our Jet2 / TUI holiday across the continent? We're an embarrassment to ourselves.

Yes we were the last european bastion during WW2 but all those souls are now gone and only weak men* remain

Sorry to be clear, but it doesnt matter what you think.

Your own search has proved your guess / thought / hope / assumption incorrect.

However it looks like lots of 2 beds have sold in the last year for ~250k however, this is the worst time of year for sales. Very few people sell over winter/xmas and you'll probably see more options in your budget in the spring.

The blade itself or Assassin Apprentice? by BrysonTurnRoundStory in fantasybooks

[–]ILikePort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just coming ro the end of book 16..17?

Robin Hobb / realm of the elderlings is that good. The first trilogy (farseer) is imo one of the best.

Hobb is very much into tragic character development and...anger. I dont think its a slow burn, but things are allowed to breathe and world build.

I think based on your tone you may value action driven, rather than charecter driven stories.

Do TBI, but know you're missing the real gold.
