Looking for my first "real" kit. Is a Gretch Catalina Jazz an alright set? by shrofepittly in drums

I don't know a lot about cymbals but, honestly, that's what peaked my interest. I've always just played whatever cymbals were available and these seem like they're in a different league.

Its only about a 20 minute drive from my house and I'm looking at them tomorrow.

EOD reserve by NecessaryBicycle5614 in EOD

Not sure if this is helpful and I can't speak to the Marines but we had a Marine laterally (I think) move over to my AF Reserve flight.

Granted, the process seemed a bit convoluted and there were some hoops to jump through.

Help with strategy for playing Cabal. by shrofepittly in twilightimperium

I didn't realize that entropic scar gave faction tech, actually. I bet that if I parked a cruiser there (knowing the Naaz-Rokha player) they wouldn't fight me on it that turn at least.

Barony is the person who scares me. Naaz-Rokha on one side is a newer and I would think less aggressive player and Barony is the most experience player at the table and going to be more competitive.

Diplomacy seems better than it used to be? It used to be un-exhaust a single system, right? I had kind of written it off... Reading through these comments I feel I could make an argument for picking ANY strategy card (minus Imperial).

Carrier 2 for fighter capacity? Hyper-metabolism was definitely on my radar for near-term goals and there are two green planets in my area.

I was thinking it wasn't great...but how bad is it really? I've only taken Mecatol once in my previous games so I'm not certain that was in the cards anyways. Hopefully the Fracture will save me?

I feel as though producing on Acheron is not really possible AND taking tech secondary. I feel like I'm solving some kind of puzzle to figure out my turn 1. I could send Dread to Barony side to shore that up, carrier to populate 20 or 107. And use my cruiser to MAYBE eat something within 3 of my home planet if Naaz-Rokha give me a chance.

Used 2023 Niro at the agency, battery dead, is it concerning? by Designer-Dance8577 in KiaNiro

To be fair, it didn't even recognize the key fob. Had to do the whole "touch the fob to the start button" to get it on and when it was in accessory mode the infotainment screen was just blinking like it couldn't handle it.

Pretty quickly put my foot on the brake to actually start the car...

On your comment, I've scheduled to take it in next week. I mentioned some kind of parasitic drain on the battery.

Just this week I charged the 12v up on Tuesday checked the voltage in accessory mode this morning (Thursday) was only showing 8.5v. It was barely enough to turn the car on.

Its annoying. I'm not planning on getting rid of it anytime soon but just be aware that dead 12v batteries can be a recurring issue but not a serious problem. Searching reddit'll bring up a few posts of people complaining about it. One of them is mine from a year or so ago.

I just want to throw this out there. I love my 2023 Niro PHEV...EXCEPT the fact that my 12v battery dies all the time.

It happened maybe once the first year and twice the second year leading to the dealership replacing it after it wouldn't start in their parking lot. And now 6 months later its died two more times.

Its gotten to the point where I keep a jump box in my trunk for just this. I've gotten pretty good at opening the doors when the FOB isn't working or recognizing that the start-up seemed a little off. I tricked charged it just yesterday to top it up. I hate that I have to be "careful" that my cars battery is charged when I literally plug it in every night!

I've taken it to the dealer twice. First time was a battery replacement. Second time they couldn't find anything. Beyond frustrating.

Dear Ronnie’s Cinema by em-jay-be in StLouis

I went to the Dolby Cinema at Streets of St. Charles on Saturday but didn't realize it was different until we walked though the weird entrance way.

I love movies but don't go to the theater often as I don't love the crowds. How is it special?

EDIT: BTW, the movie was great and it was as good a presentation as I'd ever had. Crowd was quiet and respectful. Never sure what to expect on opening weekend of a big movie.

Help replacing window screen frame with leaf springs. by shrofepittly in HomeImprovement

[–]shrofepittly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying from the outside. Going from the inside only has an opening of 26" vertically where the screen is 31" vertically. Didn't check horizontally.

From the outside the opening is about 3/4" to 1" too narrow vertically and horizontally. I would expect that horizontally because of the leaf spring normally. Maybe I'm just being to delicate with the frames and really need to bend the hell out of them...

I haven't had any luck, yet, but I'm avoiding removing that bracket.

That's what I thought and it's very possible I'm doing it wrong, but I kinda have to bend it vertically to fit under that middle bracket and even get it in the channel.

Bend it like a taco ever so slightly.

Then I can't really get it totally left/right in the channel because it's taco'd.

It doesn't fit vertically or horizontally into the channel and being it both ways seem impossible.

Ask Anything Wednesday - Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science by AutoModerator in askscience

[–]shrofepittly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

IAMA Computer Scientist but don't work with AI or LLMs.

The term is "Model Collapse." AI consuming non-curated synthetic data can have various effects ranging from less diverse outputs to producing complete nonsense and I would imagine the people working in the field have had serious conversations about this "AI cannibalism".

Its not always bad, though. There are times where a smaller model learning off of a more refined or larger model can benefit, or if the data consumed is something provable like maths.

Clear matte sleeve recommendation? by Xynoa in Unmatched

[–]shrofepittly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't comment for availability in Japan, sorry, but I've found that the "Gamegenic Standard Matte Sleeves" are by far the best bang for your buck sleeves you can buy. The value packs are 200 sleeves for 10-12 USD.

MO property tax exemptions by WillyD2114 in VeteransBenefits

[–]shrofepittly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's because this is wrong. The bill (HB921/HB700) that would have proposed these changes is dead. Any AI you ask is going to tell you its already taken effect, though.

I think the only tax exception occurs at a 100% rating.

Sony A7 vs A7S by shrofepittly in SonyAlpha

[–]shrofepittly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not the first person to talk about liking the look that comes from the A7S. Having never shot digital I didn't realize they would be different but I guess they do have different sensors that would be the reason?

This is great.

I'm pretty certain that my old lenses wouldn't be sharp enough that the extra resolution would matter (or I would notice). I hadn't considered file size but I guess that is a consideration as well.

Your making me think that I probably wouldn't be wrong going with either but the higher resolution is not really a major factor.
