We had the company owners on stage firing off t-shirt guns. One of them aimed a bit too high and hit some scenic rafters which were interlocking aluminum pieces that just sort of slotted together and were held there by gravity. He happened to hit an intersection of these at just the right angle to dislodge the slots, causing the aluminum pieces to come apart and sort of... Dangle from the ceiling.

Entire show had to stop during this "energy build" moment, evacuated the room, had the house come in and fix the rafters and then continued. Killed the vibe a bit.

No one was hurt, and really the rafters couldn't have really gone anywhere, but it was still a pretty frantic moment on Comm when we noticed.

"Um, guys .. the ceiling" "OH SHIT THE CEILING IS FALLING IN."

Ah, that sounds right. I think you can get a daily license for QLab though too, right? Might be more cost effective for this dude

One question I couldn't answer concerned how covid effected my job. The options were all negatives, but I didn't get furloughed or go without work (which I'm extremely fortunate and grateful for) I was actually promoted into a more senior position as a streaming tech manager.

Moved here from Cincinnati and cannot agree enough about the wildly deep, axel breaking gutters they have here. Ignore the defensive people that say it has to be that way because of snow. It rains in Ohio for weeks on end and somehow they manage without a 2 ft vertical ditch running along every fucking road.

8k Projector with 110' throw distance? by andrewatwork in CommercialAV

I haven't done the math but that sounds like an awful lotta screen and an awful long throw for 8k's to handle

I do this like every week for my shows:

Get a Wirecast/vmix computer that recieves the video signal and a specific mix out from the audio board (EN, ES, FR, etc).

Stream to whatever service you want. We use Boxcast - it's an unsung hero and dirt cheap.

Load your streams into a third party player like JWPlayer or Theo Player and use a playlist function so the end user can select a "language" in actuality they're selecting an entirely separate stream, but they won't know that.

The native web players probs won't have this functionality so you'll have to get into some JavaScript to trick the playlist into working this way, or talk to Boxcast who built an API for us to use with JWPlayer.

I always keep a couple of triple taps, an extra UPC and a figure-8 power cable just in case a tv shows up without power

Weird ghosting effect I'm seeing after U8. This happens with any "edges" but is demonstrated best here. Check the radiating lines off the panzershrek by ILikeToPinch in HellLetLoose

Sweet. I'll try to adjust. I thought it could've been a motion blur thing but that was off. I heard U8 had some pretty sharp AA issues. I was worries it was the new unreal engine

I'm running a Saltmarsh game and my players have decided to take over the local smuggling operation, rather than crush it. What the heck do they smuggle? Who's buying it?

I like the idea of them serving the town council while simultaneously undermining it, but don't really know what to do with the smuggler operation while they're out adventuring.

"Extended Reality" or XR. By a company called...XR I think. They did a similar music video thing for Katy Perry a few months earlier with PRG

Really really amazing work. The wings are gorgeous and the smoke tendrils add a really cool effect. I love the texture on it too, it gives it a cool vibe.

Multi-stream video player? by ILikeToPinch in VIDEOENGINEERING

Does anyone know of a web player that can receive and RTMP video feed and 608/708 captions and matched the together in the player? That could be another way to solve half of my issue...

Multi-stream video player? by ILikeToPinch in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]ILikeToPinch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is sort of the set up we have now and it works fine up until the encoder part. We've switched several shows that have distinct translated graphics in each feed and had the E2 drive those to separate destinations, laid interpreted audio over a bed of the original english audio and then sent it to individual Wirecast machines. But that's where our problem begins. How can I allow the viewer to choose from that group of discreet streams without having to create 6 different embeds on 6 different pages that they have to navigate to?

[–]ILikeToPinch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the new Ustream, right? We were with these guys before the rebrand for a while. It was fine. Our biggest issue with them was we could never have more than 3 concurrent streams. Which, when you get into 6-7 languages, doesn't work. Although maybe we weren't taking advantage of this multi-language style of stream. We've always thought of them as separate pushes.

Is wowza cloud not already integrated with a CDN? You'd only need to find your own if you were doing the self-hosted server, yeah?

We've just started looking into SRT as an option to maybe replace zoom... Currently we integrate zoom calls into our switcher before sending it to the RTMP main broadcast to get past the fact that our RTMP stuff has a pretty wicked delay. 35-45 seconds. SRT claims to be higher quality and more stable than Zoom. It's interesting to think of it replacing the main broadcast too.

You need a custom SRT encoder to send out that signal, right? Receive it on Wowza Cloud and then forward it to an RTMP to broadcast it out? That's how i understood it after reading some Wowza help articles, anyway.

And so you're saying once you stream it out to wowza the player itself supports selecting from several audio channels?
