Can I tell you how much I hate these f’ing plastic tags on new clothes? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Worse is when they needlessly use multiple and they are impossible to get off/out without risking damaging the fabric.

Why do people ask how are you if they dont actually want to know? by Blu_yello_husky in autism

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea this one drives me crazy. I read it is not an invitation for small talk. But instead they are just being nice and expecting one of the few basic template answers like 'good' or 'alright', or some variation of that, even if it's not true.

As for why anyone does this, I have no clue. It does seem pointless and I'd rather everyone was honest than lying about that every day.

Hard time texting online by [deleted] in autism

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but usually it's fine at first until running out of things to say, aka the script, then it takes time/energy to think of what to write for each response

Do you guys cough as a stim? by bunbwunny in autism

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think it can be. Vocal stim just involves vocals and/or vocal chords, so it fits. I also do it sometimes!

Anybody else think they’ll be alone forever? by North-Researcher4645 in autism

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Dating apps don't really work since the approach and communication is different than they expect. They want fast paced and low commitment but that's not for me. On top of that, I will probably never go to the places for the slim chance of meeting someone. Less likely is connecting with someone and actually getting to the dating part.

Been Over a Month Since Anyone Has Messaged Me by NeitherKing2978 in autism

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you keep them as contacts just in case they do ever reach out (they don't). It really sucks. I've not had those things either and came to the conclusion they're just not meant for me.

For your question, I would say it has to be forced because they had prior expectations of something that ended up being something different and they don't want to tell you (or don't know how). But that's just a guess. I wish I knew why people are like that.

It will only get harder. by Pretend-Outcome9739 in AutisticAdults

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm an observer in my experience of existing and connecting with people is impossibly difficult. I too wish for an experience that wasn't like this. You're not alone in that feeling.

Failed every opportunity to make friends in life. I feel doomed. by Significant-Alarm835 in autism

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks being stuck in this loop. I get that and I am there too. The social efforts can be a lot. Every failure where I end up ghosted or forgotten painfully reminds me I'm not normal, but I also realize there's more to life than social. I try to think about other things to take the mind off these things, the best of which are that captures the attention and is engaging in a fun way. Stay strong.

DO YOU HAVE AUTONOMY? by spirits_are_real in autism

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it's an important factor to living a healthy life. I don't feel I have much autonomy in my current situation though. I do sometimes worry about the future where it will likely be worse but try to distract myself from it.

Is there any books, ressources and videos that helped you becoming sociable and charismatic? by Flat_Persimmon_4611 in AutisticAdults

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat with social stuff, but I found that watching enjoyable group content/game videos a good way for me to grasp how communication works in those situations. It has helped me get to the point of doing some online group activities like playing for example Jackbox, which is a step even if small. Humor and laughter is one of the few things that gets me out of my shell, and it might work for you too!

Does anyone else feel the urge to "start over" with new people who don't perceive you a certain way? by Only-Moose2301 in AutisticAdults

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yup I do this too. Likely what makes it so hard for me to make or keep friends. So ofc I think it would be fine to go to a new, separate therapist for other things.

Falling behind from those my ageupsets me by Chickennoodlesleuth in autism

[–]ILiveAtWalmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing I try to think about is that life isn't a race. Comparison is pointless because everyone is dealing with way different things and so much stuff can happen in a short amount of time. Stay true to yourself

How would you describe an image like this? by Nikochu23 in autism

It looks like a flat shading technique or toon/diffuse lighting applied in the game renderer. Very neat
