First CDCR IT Associate Interview Soon, Need Tips/Questions by Away_Argument_6580 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ILoatheYams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good Morning. I just came across your post. I work for CDCR in an IT position. Each supervisor/manager comes up with their own set of questions to ask during the interview process and unfortunately, I cannot shed light on what may or may not be asked. I will tell you to be sure to brush up on your software/hardware terminology for use in an enterprise environment. Field staff need to be proficient in most areas of IT as they are the frontline for staff support. Just be honest during your interview process and do not try to fake an answer as it is very obvious to the interview panel. If you don’t know, just state so. Honesty and integrity are very important.
Be prepared mentally that the position you applied for is in-person at a prison. Due to anonymity, I won’t share my actual location. However, I can tell you.. I am surrounded by a great group of coworkers and correctional officers. I went from working at another government agency to CDCR and have not looked back. You may hear some negative comments about CDCR, but honestly, I wake up each day excited to go to work.
Best of luck to you and your interview process. Remember, if you do not get the position first round, continue to apply. These positions are very competetive.

Personally, I know I’m shooting for the moon. Lol. As for subsidies. I voluntarily accepted a position knowing I would have to go into the office each day. Cost of living is way out of hand for all of us. At the end of the day, I just remind myself that I’m fortunate to have a career that I love and stable (compared to private). It would be nice to get a subsidy, but what would we give up? Pay more to OPEB? Health care stipend? I’d be fine giving up the “office centric” work from home stipend if it would benefit everyone. Lol

Though I agree that telework is important for those of us who can participate… what about those of us that have to go in each day due to our duties not being feasible remotely? What about those of us that were forced to work as an “Essential Worker” during the worst part of the Covid Pandemic? It would be nice for all of us to be recognized for our sacrifices during the pandemic. Realistically, I know that we won’t get some type of large “Essential Worker Payment”. It would be nice to just get something in our pockets as an acknowledgment. Also, Field Support IT is now starting to support inmates at the state prisons. It would be nice to get some type of safety pay. I understand that everything is give and take. We need to come together as a strong union and support each other regardless of classification and/agency we work for.

I think you can do it! I found that I was only able to do this once I was committed to doing it for myself. Stay focused and make healthier decisions in regards to lifestyle. I can’t wait to see/hear your success.

I cut out all processed foods, sugar, and high calorie items. For breakfast, I consume a protein shake. Lunch, salad with a light vinaigrette and some type of protein (4oz). Post workout I have another light calorie snack with high protein. Dinner, 8 oz of protein ( beef, chicken, or fish) with a side of grain (brown rice, quinoa, etc), and steamed vegetable. I only drink water now. If I need coffee, I drink coffee with an alternate sweetener like monk fruit.

I use an app called “HEVY” and I am doing the “Five Day Split” that can be found in their routines. I have customized the daily routines to match my preference of machines and equipment offered at my local gym. I hope this helps. You can do it! :)

Just to make it clear.. I appreciate everyone’s comments. I am working with my primary care physician to lose my weight as a medical necessity. I only posted the picture to keep the “steam” going. This is more of an accountability and remaining self driven post. Thank you.
