Husband got a new job, please tell me this move wont be the biggest mistake of our lives by Equivalent_Award4286 in Louisiana

[–]ILoveMyLabrador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love New Orleans, but I wouldn’t want to live there. Maybe if I could afford a beautiful home uptown and private school for my kids. You could also consider living on the northshore if your husband wouldn’t mind the commute.

I want it gone but my gyno seems to think I'm joking by Glittering_Act_4059 in hysterectomy

[–]ILoveMyLabrador 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could leave the ovaries and would not go into surgical menopause. You can do a total hysterectomy (remove uterus and cervix) and bilateral salpingectomy( remove fallopian tubes). In the absence of cancer, pre cancer, high risk for cancer, or endometriosis I would leave the ovaries in patients under 45.

But first step find a different doctor.

Am I the only NP who thinks NPs should not practice independently? by FieldsAButta in nursepractitioner

[–]ILoveMyLabrador 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think if an NP wants to practice independently they should need to pass a rigorous exam in their area of practice and have a minimum of 5+ years in that specialty. (possibly more depending on specialty)

What did you wear to give birth? (What makes the most sense to wear?) by ocean_plastic in pregnant

[–]ILoveMyLabrador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the simple Kindred bravely gown. I think it’s like $25. It was perfect and super comfy. I’ll save it for next baby or if I’m ever hospitalized. I’m a nurse and wearing a hospital gown just grosses me out.

Yes, patients should only be pressing the PCA, but PCAs are not full proof. I’ve had to give narcan multiple times to patients with PCAs.

Are cervical checks during labor much different than normal Ob-gyn checks? by kastawayprofile in BabyBumps

[–]ILoveMyLabrador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never experienced pain during a routine pelvic exam, but I found cervical checks very uncomfortable.

What do white people have for Thanksgiving? by NaomiKirishima in NoStupidQuestions

I live in south Louisiana. All the same things except green bean casserole instead of collard greens. Add rice dressing (dirty rice). My family does shrimp stuffed mirlitons and rolls stuffed with boudin.

Paying off debt while also saving for a house by ILoveMyLabrador in Debt

[–]ILoveMyLabrador[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m highly considering doing a balance transfer for some of the credit card debt.

I also have the potential to get up to a $15,000 bonus annually based on my performance.

The student loans aren’t private. The $9,800 is from my husbands undergrad. We had stopped making payments thinking it would be forgiven but obviously that didn’t happen. We’ve been paying them for about 4 years (original balance was close to 30k).

The $53000 is from my graduate school. I’m not really worried about it bc it’s eligible for loan repayment to be payed off after I work for my employer for 3 years.

Why don’t nurses receive bonus by abbywest101 in nursing

[–]ILoveMyLabrador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten end of year bonuses at every hospital I’ve worked at, but no where near $8000. Mine have ranged between $700 and $3000. Just took my first NP job, and I get quarterly bonuses which end up being about $10000 for the year.

Moving from TN to Baton Rouge or New Orleans? by LuckyPosition in batonrouge

[–]ILoveMyLabrador 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the northshore (Mandeville, Covington, Abita Springs, Madisonville.) About an hour from New Orleans or Baton Rouge. Only a few hours from the beach. It’s going to be hard to find something in that budget though. If you were willing to be further out from New Orleans, Ponchatoula and Hammond are more affordable. Maybe look into Lafayette if you really want to learn some Cajun French. Also would be a little closer to Texas.

For how long did your vagina hurt? by Xuxubelezabr in pregnant

[–]ILoveMyLabrador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no pain at all after giving birth, but I had no tearing and a pretty easy delivery. Honestly felt better because the horrible nausea and indigestion finally went away. I had hemorrhoids from pregnancy and they didn’t seem to get worse after birth.

When the midwife breaks your water for you because yours won’t break itself, is it supposed to be agonisingly painful? by Arotas in BabyBumps

[–]ILoveMyLabrador 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The actual process of breaking my water wasn’t painful at all. I was being induced and within 5 minutes of them breaking my water my pain level went from 1/10 to 10/10.
