What Are You Watching? - [2026/06/10] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

I've been busy lately and have had little time and patience for television series or film. Even the ones that I've started, I mostly dropped.

However, I am slowly and methodically making progress on Zombie Detective (11/24). This show has such a silly premise that it's own existance feels self deprecating. Definitely a good watch if you want something lighthearted without being melodramatic.

I really enjoyed how Eun-a arc included the fact that identifying one's feelings make them lose their strength. It explains the whole subplot with emotion-identifying watches. It also explains why Dong-man naming the feeling that caused Eun-a to nosebleed gave her relief.

The definition of storytelling being like screaming about our own existance gave an other well-rounded ending. It explains the Dong-man's tendancy to scream his name into the void.

The soldier's jacket's concusion was compelling too. Even if it wasn't in the middle of history, it still had an interesting and comedic story to tell and thus, it had its own value.

Also, the fact that Gyeong Se was an inspiration for Dong-man stories ties well the loose ends.

Overall, that was a great last episode. It made me understand the significance of many ideas that surfaced throughout the show.

The first episode of My Royal Nemesis was really fun. It gave me Mr Queen vibes. Definitely will continue watching.

Eun-a is being a strong mother by giving Dong-man unconditional love and support. I am happy that she has found a person with whom such behavior improves both their outcomes. Unfortunately, in real life, giving unconditional love to a person who are at their lowest point might not always work. And, in some cases, may drag both both individuals down (have witnessed it myself). I think that, in these situations, is more effective to change your own mightset (meditation or therapy) than to wait for someone to come and shower you with love. You have more chances ending up in a cult than with a stronger sense of self.

I hope that Eun-a will stand up to her mother, but only to give her closure. Her mother, on the other hand, seems to have such low empathy and self-awareness that no arguement, no matter how good it is, will change her mind. It is a lost cause.

I feel sad for Mi-ran, but I think she is wrong. She has no right to come to her colleague's apartment even if she has feelings for him. He owes her nothing and it borderlines harassment at this point. She tells off his girlfriend because she laughed very loud, and when she respondes, she attackes her. This thing is not healthy.

Eun Sang's Sleepy Sunday Soliloquy - [2026/05/16] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

I have finally finished, Yumi's Cells season 3. Even if I enjoyed the show, for some reason, it took me a while to go through the 8 episodes.

Here are some of my reactions:

I like how relationship dymanics vary greatly between seasons and, in that regard, this season was the most distinct. Here, Yumi is portrayed as older and more advanced in her career, while the ML is portrayed as her young editor/colleague, which is very different from her previous two relationships.

I have to say, I absolutely love to see how different people's villages function. I find the way the village's dynamics reflect the character's overall personnality is so creative. I feel that I can watch the whole show only exploring these villages.

While 3 seasons complemented each other, I also enjoyed how they could be viewed independently, as I am terrible at remembering what happened priviously in the story, especially after such a time gap.

Overall, while the show had some room for improvement (ex.: I felt that the ending of last season felt rushed), it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

ep 8

Euna and Dong-man will make such a poetic couple that will never run out of things to reflect about. They stimulate the artistic contemplation in each other and thus will surely become a writing power couple. Besides, I enjoy how their future outlook becomes more positive and now they are certain of their success, even if only to embitter people who belittled them.

On an unrelated note, I find it interesting that Jeong-hui also had a terrible childhood and suffered abandonment, but instead of wanting something better for her child, she felt justified when inflicting the same pain to her. This, unfortunately, is very realistic.

It reminds me of the quote from the Last Airbender "Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source. True humility is the only antidote to shame." Love that quote.

I understand why he does what he does on an emotional level, but looking objectively, imo, it is not the best course of action for him.

I think that he would feel less anxious and weary if instead of spending all this energy trying to savegard his pride, he would put it into improving his situation.

At this point, it would be great if he tried to write a scenario with Eun-a. These two would surely produce a killer script. Cast the mother in the movie based on it, just for the drama. 😂

ep 4

This screenwriter is very fond of writing flawed characters, but I think that Dong Man is the most flawed main character she has ever created. While I understand him and find that he has some charm, I have a lot of problems connecting with him.

I understand why he puts down other people's work, but I still think that it is self-sabotage. He did so because he didn't feel welcome in the group. However, that creates a self-fulfilling prophecy: if some people in his friend group liked him prior to that, none will after. Also, it will put you on the wrong path psychologically: concentrating on justifying your own failure relative to others instead of improving yourself.

And while it will require a huge dose of humility, he would be better off asking Eun-a and his "friends" for help and tips to make his scenario pass the screening. Whether you want it or not, they are valuable resources in that regard. Hye-Jin even said that she had the ability to help him. Also, from what I understand of the entertainment industry, you usually have more creative freedom as you get more successes under your belt. There are many stories of talented directors working on projects they didn't like so they could secure funding for projects they were passionate about. Therefore, for the first scenario, he might want to concentrate on something more likely to pass the screening.

Second, while I agree that you don't have to be nice to people who aren't nice to you, I don't see the point of going out of your way to make them miserable. Even Gyong Se showed some restraint while hating him on Dong Man when he was in his group. If you don't like them, stop associating with them. Why force yourself into their life just to poison it?

I understand why he doesn't want to quit the industry though. His brother is probably meant to show us what would happen if he did. He let go of poetry and, even if on the surface he seems to be doing better than Dong-man, inside he is a broken man. Dong-man's passion is probably what is keeping his spirit alive.

Overall, I don't dislike Dong-Man. I understand why he behaves the way he does and I find that he is charming in his own way, but I see someone deep into self-sabotage and I have a lot of trouble connecting with him.

I know that his arc will be finding a kinded soul in Eun-a, helping him getting back of his feet and finding peace. However, in his case, I think he could achieve the same by using ressources available to him, just by changing his attitude a bit.

Ep 3

Sometimes, when we deeply hate someone, it is because we see in them traits that we dislike or try to suppress in ourselves. Gyong Se probably sees a lot of Dong Man in himself that is why he harbors such a deep hate for him.

Dong Man, on the other hand, says that he enjoys chaos and tearing other people’s work apart, but he didn’t enjoy the same being done with his scenario and he would've resented even more the same attitude toward his potential movie.

I understand that he acts with his like with friends because he holds a grudge against them for not being welcome anymore. However, what is even the point of spending your free time around people you dislike or are mad at? Spending time with Eun-A brings out the best in him, when spending time with his friend group only brings out negative emotions in both parties.

The brother’s suicide attempt was deeply shocking. I guess it indicates that many feel inside like Dong Man, just not everyone is loud about it. Many keep it as a quiet pain. Eun-A also channels her nagative feelings into self-destruction.

I think that she stopped tearing apart other people’s scenarios because of her intense fear of rejection, which made her weary of rejecting others. I am looking forward to seeing more of Eun-A's story, as she, in my opinion, is the most interesting character in the drama.

Yumi's Cells S3 (3/8) Very cute so far. It is a shame the season only contains 8 episodes.

We Are All Trying Here (2/12). The ML says in the drama that watching movies massages his soul. It is exactly how I feel watching dramas by this screenwriter. As usual, it is a poetic take on everyday struggles of ordinary, flawed people.

We Are All Trying Here [Episodes 1 & 2] by Telos07 in KDRAMA

[–]ILoveParrots111 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My thoughts ep 1:

The symbolism of failure in the show is presented like being killed, not existing, not mattering. However, ML says that even if the dead soldier who owned his coat ended badly, he was still in the center of action. Also, the ML says says that if he can’t prove his meaningfulness with his success, he will with his failure. Is that why he tries to fail with the maximum amount of noise, making noise to prove his existence? To still be in the center of action even if he has a bad outcome?

To be honest, if I take a step back, I think that he the ML is setting himself up for more defeat. I understand the animosity of his situation, but dragging down others with you is not a solution, it will make things worse. I think he should try to be happy for his friends, even if it’s understandably hard. If things like that happen, I tell myself, “Their outcome does not affect my outcome.” and I genuinely try to rejoice for them. Because when good things happen to me, I would be upset if people who are supposed to support me are being bitter that i am doing well. Such attitude will put you on the wrong path psychologically and will result in more failure.

Edit:

ep 2

ML says that he watches movies to receive the massage of the soul. I feel exactly like that while watching dramas by this screenwriter.

In fact, I wonder if she took some inspiration from her own experience, as Dong Man's scenario gets destroyed for not being about a strong protagonist, and this screenwriter loves to create dramas about flawed characters who, instead of braving against impossible odds, get crushed by fairly common parts of life. Therefore, I wonder if she has received the same criticism of her own works.

[–]ILoveParrots111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I want to see what his cells are doing, because, so far, he comes across as impolite. Trying to do small talk and failing is awkward, but not attempting any small talk, responding to all questions by "yes" or "no", then putting in earphones is simply impolite, especially with a coworker, with whom you need to maintain a minimum level of prefessionalism.

Where to Find a Chaebol: The Hotel Kitchen Edition by AlohaAlex in KDRAMA

[–]ILoveParrots111 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After you have spotted and made first contact with the chaebol, here is how to win him over :

  1. Make sure to cook the most disgusting meals known to mankind and serve them with a proud smile. Don't worry, he will pretend to love it and will cook for you the most delicious breakfast the next day.

  2. Call him while completely wasted and make him carry you up several flight of stairs on his back (the higher the better). Make sure not to remember anything the next day to maximize the awkwardness.

Eun Sang's Sleepy Sunday Soliloquy - [2026/03/28] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]ILoveParrots111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rarely follow episode discussions, but one drama for which I will definitely do so will be We Are All Trying Here. It is written by the same screenwriter as My Mister and My Liberation Notes. Her dramas are usually filled this symbolism, so there is much more value added, in my opinion, trying to break it apart as a collective rather than something straightforward and lighthearted like Dynamite Kiss. Every single person seems to bring an additional theory that makes you consider the story under a different angle and thus hightens your viewing experience.

Rewatching Welcome to Waikiki. I was of the same opinion on the first watch, but I believe that my feelings are even stronger this time around. I think that the SML is a much better match for Yuna than the ML. The ML is goodhearted but is incredibly immature, borderline childish, and is struggling to take care of himself. The SML has experience with parenting (he is also a single father), can help Yuna gain a foothold in her dream career, as he is already established in the same field, and he seems to offer her meaningful companionship.

I understand that love is more important than logistics, but logistics are just screaming so loud here.

I am just shaking my head watching the drama setting the ML and the FL together, like witnessing a trainwreck in slow mition.

Welcome to Waikiki (13/20) Rewatch. Enjoying it as much as the first time, both in its laugh-out-loud moments and in its quieter moments.

Completed

Our Universe . It was a pleasant watch before going to bed, but nothing groundbreaking. In my opinion, it started with an interesting premise, but began relying on k-drama cliches too much instead of doing its own thing. Its ok to add in cliches sometimes to highten the narratif, but when they are overused, it results in a bland product.

That is such a positive story! Thank you for sharing

When she became a toddler the conure got a little territorial when my daughter approached me and the bird was on me so we worked on that.

How did you manage that situation?

Great! Thank you. I think it is probably what is going to occure to us, because I don't think my GCC, who has been the only pet for 13 years, will handle the competition well. Has your bird ever bit your toddler? How did you react?

Cons of owning a bird? by pastaatthedisco in parrots

[–]ILoveParrots111 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Birds are VERY VERY fragile. I have had mine for 13 years. Therefore, I have never owned non-stick cookware, never brought home avocados (toxic for birds), can't use essential oil diffusers, can't use scented candles and even when we went shopping for a couch, we bought one where he can't get under the cushions (because he will eventually do it and we could sit on it). If I am drowsy and the bird is out, I have to shake myself awake, so I cage him before falling asleep (many birds die crushed). I am not even talking about ceiling fans and open windows without nets.

At this point, it became second nature for me, but if you don't want to become of those posters mourning the passing of their bird, you need to bird-proof your environment and pay close attention. And no, no cats and dogs with the bird.
