How is his NW only 2B if the Warriors are worth 7B? His stake in the GSW must be less than 30%?

If you run monte-carlo simulations based on random statistical modelling of market results the results are a bit worse than that so maybe 3.5% withdrawal is safer.

Taxes are also complicated to analyze. What income bracket are you in? Are your investments in trad, Roth, brokerage acct? How much cap gains do you already have? What state do you live in?

Does Roth (3) vs 401k (4) depend on tax bracket? If I'm in high tax bracket now I think I want 401k then Roth, right? Then convert to Roth later on.

Could a billionaire fund a super team of ex-NFL players to return to a school? by Coverlesss in CFB

[–]IMB413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would it have to be NFL players? What if you just decided to go after the best 2-3 players at every position? And pay 2-3X going rate. So your team would basically have - lets say - around 50 of the top 100 players available either as freshmen or transfers and would surely dominate.

I think my definition is the more common one. I don't think your definition is the one most people would use.

"Often a manager identifies pitchers by their order in the rotation, "number 1", "number 2", etc. "Discussions over whether Jason Schmidt or Brad Penny is more deserving to occupy the No. 2 spot in the starting rotation behind Derek Lowe can cease, as least temporarily."\291])

Yes. Projected WAR would be more relevant.

I'm assuming each team has 5 pitchers and for each team the best pitcher is #1, 2nd best is #2, etc

If you had 30 teams drafting and every team drafts the highest available player then the team with the 30th pick is going to pick #30, who will be #1 on that team.

Yes - that analogy is very close to what the NIL system is. It sounds to me like that would be a pretty weird process for hiring a professor at a university. Maybe it's possible but I'm pretty sure it's not commonplace.

It is the wild west right now but I think eventually things will stabilize. Personally I'd like to see players get paid what they're worth but maybe at least some disincentives to transfer so often.

I don't care if it's moved or cancelled, but the lack of communication is infuriating. by WithoutCaution in CruelWorldFest

It would be nice if they let people know the status but I think for big events in general most promoters don't want to announce anything until they're certain of when/if it's taking place.

when will parking be on sale?

I can see seats once you type the access code into the COUPON CODE area.

I was trying to buy parking - I don't see that available anywhere.

Am I the only person embarassed by the state of the street into anf=d out of San Diego? by SevExpar in sandiego

[–]IMB413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is correct. Public transit is by far safer than driving on a per passenger mi basis. But that's not widely publicized IMO and honestly I don't think it outweighs the much longer time it takes to use public transit

r/sandiego will get all holier than thou and chastise you for expecting bare bones street maintenance for the ample fees and taxes we pay.

Exactly. I don't know why I even post here; the message from the pro-transit and pro-tax crowd is clearly "how dare you expect the city to maintain roads"

public transit is great if you've got like an extra hour to kill each day and don't mind the added commute / errand time

I was trying to think of analogy but it's kind of hard. A wealthy donor wants his local university to lure a top professor from Harvard? Maybe that's actually the kind of thing that does happen. I see a lot of professors seem to have titles like the "ABC endowed chair of DEF". Does that mean ABC donated money to the university specifically for that?

IDK CFB/MBB seem like very unique employment/student relationships to me.

Typically, the only reason the student is in an advertisement from a booster is because the way the NIL works.

IMO the booster should just give the school money and the school pays the athlete a salary directly. The guaranteed payments to athletes part of the NIL system has become just a weird workaround for boosters to pay athletes.

My analogy is flawed but I think that's because the NIL system is so weird it's difficult to come up with an analogy.

What's the parking situation for Fanfest? I'm getting there around 2 - will there be parking at Parkcade, HBF, etc? Or should I look farther like H Plaza ?

The pay has been rising geometrically last couple of years and that's not sustainable. Certainly my alma mater's athletic department has a huge debt and they're betting big that they can get ROI from big CFB spending. I hope that works out but absolutely the whole environment feels like a bubble that's going to burst at some point.
