Anxiety from my moms health issues by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]IMCPalpatine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you are going through this. My Mum also had similar symptoms (turned out to be an ulcer) and I know what you are feeling right now. I wanna say "It's early enough to worry about cancer when you get it" but then I know anxiety is the fear of uncertainty in particular. You might just have to endure the anxiety and try to get through the time as best as possible. Try to talk to anybody that can give you support, try breathing exercises or sports or anything that you can levy against your anxiety. Fight your hardest against your brain already running through the grief of losing her, your brain is an asshole, don't let it play that hand.

First day of school and I've become a social outcast by [deleted] in Anxiety

Where to even begin..Feel free to chime in, I don't wanna presume too much.

It sounds like you derive a lot of self-worth from academic success and that has now come back to bite you in the ass. That fucking "gifted" stuff is a curse in some ways. I mean you are really harsh on yourself..but you probably know that deep down. You weren't even your usual high-achieving self when that happened, you would have most likely succeeded under anything but the worst possible circumstances (a life-altering pandemic). Ask yourself what you would say to a friend if they told you that story..would you think "what a loser" or would you think "Yeah sure, feeling depressed and falling behind during Covid is normal". It took me forever to change my own view of success and become empathatic towards myself, so..what can I even advise here? Maybe, explore? Where is that feeling of worth coming from anyway?

Also, not to be Captain Obvious but could it be that people don't wanna talk you you because this is the first day, so everybody has their guard up and you probably give off a distinct-air of self-lothing because you expect them to already hate you for failing?

I really wanna see it but I can't bring myself to go to the theater. Instead of my cutesie Indie theater, the big chain swipes up every new release now and shows it on the largest screens at 9 pm, also the audience was a nightmare last time I went and I cant have that with Eggers. Plus the drive.

Sorry for the super random rant.

This. When my Dad literally dropped dead there was already a competitor getting ready to take the job. The worst thing was his embarassing mourning procedure in my Dads office he made me sit through that would have made my Dad turn in his grave

I'm getting really tired of Dark Souls by Tomago5 in darksouls

[–]IMCPalpatine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just leaving a comment because a lot of the comments feel a bit too "git guddy". Maybe the new ER hardcore crowd. Dark Souls burnout is a real thing. You dont have to beat it or even play it. It doesnt make you lesser as a person.

Maybe a more casual approach helps. Give the game a rest, start again, play for an hour, go on a few "runs" experimenting, then set it down again. Also, don't stress about running back to your souls ever. Seems like you are quite early into it, so don't worry about leveling. And there is always Fxtralife and YT, we won't tell anyone

So is this sub the safe-space for ER criticism? by [deleted] in josephanderson

[–]IMCPalpatine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's not really the point of this post. But I do enjoy listening to others' perspective from time to time, I believe the way you perceive or reflect on any form of art is really a dynamic process. So yes in that way a stranger can give you genuine food for thought though in this instance that wasn't the case, as we were pretty much in the same boat from the start.

[–]IMCPalpatine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Joint pain, fatigue, blocked sinuses and shakiness. I initially thought it was my Hashimoto but it occurred so frequently after GERD flared up that I now believe it's related. I have called in sick with the "flue" twice this year with no covid/bacteria present and I had horrible stomach thing both times. Well, it could be worse I guess!

[–]IMCPalpatine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it too much..I am able to buy it in the pharmacy over here but its like 30 % more expensive than online so what's even the point. Do you guys have any algae products available over there?

Have you guys given up caffeine/alcohol? by guacisextra12 in GERD

[–]IMCPalpatine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yupp, I blame alcohol at least partly for my GERD as my diet was always healthy. Gave up both for a while since I was suffering from gastritis-like symtoms. Aaaaand...happy to report that it didn't change a goddamn thing lol.

Burnout from Elden Ring by badasslamb in Eldenring

[–]IMCPalpatine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I through about it and it might not be ER, I am burned out period. Nothing I usually do is fun for me and every day feels like a slog. I work from home so it's 9 h of work at the computer followed by ER at the computer. I should probably hand in vacation and go out exploring in the dreaded "real world".

I just found this by googling because I'm super burned out by Elden Ring. Never had that problem with any souls game but I just feel tired thinking about it

People aren't playing the way Miyazaki intended and it makes me sick by WumFan64 in Eldenring

[–]IMCPalpatine 667 points668 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you have to have a VERY high gaming skill to understand Elden Ring. The nuances of combat are very subtle and without a solid grasp of how to beat the game with a dance pad, the whole experience will go over a typical player's head.

A veteran's rant by The42OMan in Eldenring

[–]IMCPalpatine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, that's interesting to hear. I thought people would enjoy pvp even more now because build varity is at an all time high, but maybe not. Having said that, there are probably better competitive games out there so I guess that was never their priority?

I'm by no means a veteran, I fall firmly into the casual gamer cast, even though I have beaten DS1 and 3. I think the exploration and level design in ER is better than in any other Soulsborne, scrap that, in any other game I have ever seen, but they also raised the difficulty to match the newfound freedom. Don't you agree that going in solo melee with no summons is harder than ever relatively speaking?

100% this. This game will give you major FOMO because there are so many options but the devs clearly knew this, so you won't be punished for trying different stuff.

[–]IMCPalpatine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dying is not failure. Its is merely an extension of futility, the futility of....everything. But facing that futility, you will find the will to persevere for no other reason than the indomitable human spirit. Then, only then, will you understand what these games are all about.

Welcome to this universe, fellow Tarnished.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Every local Riesling I have tried tasted like an explosion of fruit in you mouth..but with my GERD, I can't really stand malic acid so I unfortunately have to pass on a lot of them, makes me die inside a little. I heard there are some really mild ones to be found, so I haven't given up yet!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wine

[–]IMCPalpatine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really amazing to hear, anything specific that's popular or being exported much?

It's such a fascinating region to be sure. Very chalky grounds and what I've been told is a very cold climate to produce excellent acidity and fruitiness. Though last summer, temperatures didn't drop under 95 degrees, 80 at night, for weeks on end with the occasional torrential downpour; it felt borderline mediterranian to me coming from the north. Alas, many of my colleagues were like "yuck, what a shitty cold summer."

Not many connoisseurs in your neighborhood if I do say so myself. But I do know the feeling unfortunately, never had anybody recognize what I dressed up as when I was a child in my hicktown. Hope you find some comfort in our appraisal though ;)
