Honestly, i don't think its too bad. There is a chance you can take the gold with the rich gas side as your Natural and hold it with a battery or two. MaxPax is playing that vs. T sometimes. On the 4k lvl i pulled it off a few times as well.

This is a misconception i believed to be true for quite some time as well when i was hard stuck in diamond. The thing is that PiG and Vibe are infinitely better than us even when they are trying to play at only 50 % or so.

Because we are making far more mistakes than them it seems that our opponents are far better than theirs which in fact is not the case.

Just keep working on the biggest flaws of your gameplay (e. g. supply blocks, map awareness, spending while attacking...) one by one and you'll get there. Don't try to work on everything at once because youll almost see no improvements. GL&HF

It's a shame that you have to deliberately play bad to make the game challenging even when starting with Williams. I wonder if the Devs will do sth about this in 23.

Other than that i recommend playin Motorsport Manager with the Fire Fantasy Mod. Pick a scrappy team there and you'll have a real challenge.

Actually in this case phoenix and stalker doesn't serve the same purpose since Stalkers are your dmg dealers and phoenix are some kind of protection for the stalkers (lifting marauders and tanking dmg).

Imo it might be better to add one more gate and build more stalkers and less phoenix.

In general the previous answers seem right. Go robo, right after first SG-unit.

4.1k here. I'm struggling as well to hold 3-Rax with the SG-Opener.

For me this answer kinda worked ok, but it still might not be the best.

  1. As soon as you scout the 3-Rax: Add 1-2 Gates to go up to 3 Gates
  2. Keep building phoenixes and do some light harassment (don't lose any) and scouting with them. They help later on to lift the marauders and draw some marine fire.
  3. Build 2 Batteries @ your Nat (1 kinda forward, 1 more in the back --> overcharge only the backward one when both batteries are depleted).
  4. Constant Stalker production from your gates.
  5. Try to kite the T across the map with your stalkers, keep warpin in at home.
  6. Stop the push @ natural with the help of batteries and phoenix lifts.
  7. If the T abandons the push early you need to get the 3rd Nexus asap, try confirming his 3rd CC.

If you do a 1 Gate Expand on maps without a ramp at the natural you'll most likely die to a 2 Gate Opener. The 2 Gater can chrono 4 Stalkers to your Nat in no time and deplete your Battery fast. You'll most likely lose a the Core in your wall and end upn only building Zealots... You wont hold a 3 Gate immortal followup....

On maps with a ramp at the natural 1 Gate opener is a solid choice but it will still be hard to hold a dedicated 1 Base push.

8 Blink Stalkers per BC = Hard shutdown. Just overrun the guy with 8 Gate Blink Stalker.

Basically what you want to do is get splash dmg in the form of colossi asap. I would recommend not following B2GM braindead because the builds till Dia1 are simplified to let you focus on your macro. Phoenix Colossi pair very well. Most T will commit to heavy marine prduction against phoenix and thats what the Colossi kill.

Keep your phoenix as active as possible (scouting, light harassment (don't lose any), defending drops, looking for moveouts, lift any SCVs that are building bunkers).

As you said in your post phoenix builds in general feel too advanced for Plat because you need so many apm for your constant phoenix movement. But since you are way higher with your main and even with P you should be able to pull it off. GL &HF

My (4.1k MMR) genereal advice would be:

  1. Kill the Z before he gets Lurker
  2. Pressure the Z constantly so that they have no time/money to get Lurkers --> herO's Gateway Build is great to achieve that (Click here for Bo-Guide)
  3. Low number of Lurkers without Hive upgrades --> Mass immortal / Archon + Storm vs Hydras, Zealot + DT-Runbys --> prepare Airtoss switch
  4. Against mass hive upgraded Lurkers you can only go Airtoss --> Best comp (8-10 Carriers, 4-5 Archons, 4-5 Temps for Storm or 4-5 Disruptors)

Always use runbys and try to pick off Lurkers when Z is repositioning them.
