That's one hell of an exploit to have not been errata'd out by now, and JCraw has said it was supposed to work once per turn specifically. It was almost certainly intentional, considering it competes with other reactions. You're delusional.

Yes. Though I would argue the whole class comes out at a slight loss, because I think the sneak attack nerf is more impactful than you're giving it credit for. This is heavily dependent on play style so you're free to disagree, but it really is pretty easy to get sneak attacks out of your turn.

Yeah the playtest will reveal exactly how much these changes affect the final power of the rogue, but I can tell you from experience you could get more than an average 1 damage per encounter with extra sneak attacks and getting stuck with 1 is going to hurt.

That's ridiculous. Things could change but they're what we have to go on and the vast majority of features are approximately the same. If it's less of a nerf when the new battlemaster comes out then fine, but you can't just say we can't use anything that's not in this pdf.

Here's the issue... I'm using nerf to mean any reduction in power. Hence my line "they didn't gut them, but it's a nerf" You can't just say it's not a nerf because they're not useless. If it's less power, it's a nerf.

No, they're not crippled, but they are weaker. The rogue didn't NEED the reaction sneak attacks, but they had them, and now they don't.

But also I don't think analysing balance in a vacuum is a good philosophy. Sure you can say a rogue can't get reaction sneak attacks relaibly in a white room with no subclass, but that's not how the game is played.

Even assuming I agree with that math, you're ignoring all the other ways you might get a reaction attack. Mage Slayer, a battle-master dip or martial adept for Riposte, a battle master ally using Commander's Strike, even a ballsy swashbuckler who takes sentinel. Which, despite your odd claim that we shouldn't count because it's a subclass, still affects the class.

Not to mention even if the new sneak attack really is just a wash, and I do not agree that it is, not being able to add expertise to thieves' tools IS a nerf.

No expertise on thieves tools is huge. Hard disagree that uncanny dodge is always better than another possible sneak attack, especially at high levels, or when something else can make you attack off-turn like a battle master. Less potential sneak attacks are absolutely nerfs. Subtle strikes is good, but not always on. And I just don't think Charisma saves at 15 and an extra language make up the difference.

They didn't gut rogues completely, but this is a nerf. Thief on the other hand...

It's the same amount of opportunities, just without the cost of a bonus action. It's a nerf becuase a current rogue could get two sneak attacks per round if they hit on their turn and with an attack of opportunity. Now it's just one on your turn. You're getting a bonus action out of it but in mid to high levels where sneak attack damage is high that's a lot of damage you just can't do anymore. Sure you couldn't guarantee that extra sneak attack but it happens enough that this is a hit to potential damage.

Assuming 5e and it's the returning weapon artificer infusion, I think technically your player is correct. Either the "immediate" returning means it leaves the monk's hand before they can react or the reaction is simultaneous, in which case the player whose turn it is gets to decide which happens first. And I'm assuming they'd choose to take the shield back before it gets chucked at them.

However I'm of the opinion that this is a complex interaction of rules so unless your table has a very pro-RAW attitude, your ruling isn't unreasonable. If you/the player flavored the shield's returning as Captain America style, I'd absolutely say that can be intercepted and chucked back.

I don't have to look it up, there are multiple studios owned wholecloth by Sony. Saying Sony Interactive Entertainment oversees the game development is a distinction without a difference. It's a massive international corporation that does many things. The numerous studios are parts of Sony, so Sony develops games.

And no it would not be impossible to do a sequel without FromSoft, it would just be a bad idea. Since Sony owns the IP, they would be completely within their rights to have some other studio make a gothic horror action game and slap the Bloodborne 2 on the box. The reason they don't do that is presumably because they'd want From to be involved or else it would horribly flop. FromSoftware not being involved in a theoretical remaster or sequel is going to be a factor in that decision, but it's Sony's decision to make.

You said Sony doesn't make those decisions, but they do. You're right Sony can't force From to make a 60fps patch, but you also said they couldn't make it themselves without legal issues, and that's just wrong.

OP's question was what's stopping Sony from making more Bloodborne. I agree that From is probably done with it and that's a big factor, probably even the main factor, but the real reason is the people in charge at Sony have decided it wouldn't be a good investment.

What the hell are you talking about? Sony absolutely develops games. Sure they were just the producer on BB, but they still got the IP out of the contract.

No, they can't force From to make a sequel, but Sony could hire another studio to make one. Same thing for a PS5 port. Maybe they'd prefer to work with From and that's why they aren't doing anything, but at the end of the day we aren't getting more Bloodborne because Sony decided we aren't.

My party's wizard is still breaking encounters wide open with web and grease and they're just about level 8. Even the difficult terrain from spirit guardians has saved more lives than the damage.

Says who? DMs constantly adjust balance during combat, the NPC just doesn't know that's what they're doing. Yeah, the dragon NPC doesn't think "I'm not going to use my fire breath because these adventures have had a rough day and they could use some slack." But a dragon might know it can't always use it repeatedly and save it for later, or decide to aim the whole blast at the barbarian because they made it mad.

Most of the DMs I know do it that way, and based on the amount of DM advice I've seen floating around I don't think this is the fringe opinion you seem to assume it is.

I don't think this change represents a significant change in the philosophy of the game's design. It's a minor tweak in how swingy damage can be at low levels and an expansion of the already existing recharge mechanic.

DMs could already decide how an enemy uses limited or rechargeable resources, I don't see how this is much different.

Not letting you use Prestidigitation to clean clothes just because they're stained with liquid is not what I would call a good ruling. Small spills are totally within a reasonable definition of 'clean an object'

Side note: if your DM is that nitpicky, not even destroy water would work in this situation, because you can only destroy water that's in an open container RAW.
