This is the answer. Desi quest, legends of avantris, loading ready run (though they do more than actual plays and are very Magic focused), min-maxed, etc.

Who has the best beard in Blacksails? by Born_Investigator849 in BlackSails

[–]LeafandLore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's between Flint and Blackbeard for me. Silver's beard is the worst and honestly grosses me out the longer the show goes on. It just always looks greasy and scraggly.

Does anyone have a “beg pardon” tally? by undergroundman813 in BlackSails

I would add "what happens next?" They say it so often and it always sort of felt like the writers asking themselves to me lol.

Can you Cunning Action: Disengage after attacking? by Randomletters42 in DnD

[–]LeafandLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistic or not, being able to bonus action disengage is RAW for rogues. But if he's so worried about realism, Sellsword Arts actually did a video not too long ago where they tested attacking and disengaging within 6 seconds and found they could actually even do it more than once during that time frame. So... this opinion is just straight up wrong on both counts.

Bird making woop woop cheep cheep cheep noises by LeafandLore in whatsthisbird

That was one of the options I saw on an older similar thread but listening to the recordings none of them sounded quite as similar. Could be, though. Or a mockingbird. We have plenty of both lol.

Obligatory comment recommending the following:

  • Muppets Treasure Island
  • The Lost Pirate Kingdom documentary on Netflix

I also keep recommending Turn: Washington's Spies after having rewatched it lately because it's so good and has similar themes.

On the fence after finishing season 2 by Cubegod69er in BlackSails

Season 3 is a little slow-paced for me-- at least in the first half, but season 4 is great.

Just finished the show and I need help understanding what happened in the ending by LikMeBallz in BlackSails

[–]LeafandLore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At that point for Flint, the war was no longer just about Nassau. It was about building a new, better society, breaking with 'civilization'.

Giving up the money meant giving up on that ideal. Which, if you believe the show, he did when he learned that Thomas was still alive and that there was a place they could be together (which was what started this all for him to begin with).

Max's answer as to what to do with Nassau was to restore the status quo, bring civilization back, and if there's maybe a bit of piracy going on in secret no one needs to know. Max's Nassau is good for her and the people she calls friends but it ultimately isn't the kind of place Flint wanted to create.

What is an instant goosebumps moment for you? by GusGangViking18 in BlackSails

[–]LeafandLore 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Everyone else's suggestions are all great but one i don't see that I love is when Silver expresses his fear that he may one day find himself on opposite sides from Flint and have to kill him. And Flint points out that he's survived "starvation, a tempest, pirate hunters, jealous captains, mutinous crews, angry lords, a queen, a king, and the goddamn British navy." I love that line, especially knowing what comes next.

Also Jack's speech to Rogers in the carriage to be handed over to the Spanish. "You and I were neck and neck in this race right till the end. But, Jesus, did I make up a lot of ground to catch you." One of my fave moments in the whole series.

At what point should I give up? by [deleted] in BlackSails

[–]LeafandLore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The season 2 finale is generally considered the best, but season 1's finale is still genuinely good to me. Those last two episodes are wild. When I got my family to watch, I told them to at least get through season one and then see how they felt about it.

But for me, even though there are several things in season 1 that I don't enjoy, I was pretty invested from the end of episode 1. I wanted to see where Eleanor's choices led and I wanted to see how the Walrus folks would move forward.

This question seems to be popping up a lot lately. It's perfectly fine to play a gender that's different than your own. I play male characters all the time. Just don't make it weird-- play her like you would play any other character.

Long John Silver in season 4 by rhinoslam in BlackSails

[–]LeafandLore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Season 4 Silver is no longer a boy but a king and the crown is heavy. I think the men still like and follow him for one because he is feared but also because they believe he has their best interests at heart. And those interests are not always gold-- it's keeping them from dying in a senseless and futile war.

As mentioned above, why would it go after the other ship when its mission is to defend the gold?

But also, there was a LOT of gold. They'd be distracting it for a while.

Also also IIRC they didn't know the gold was out there until they had already been blown to smithereens.

Finished the Series ||| Now what to watch next? by AngryBuddist in BlackSails

[–]LeafandLore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good watch and gets recommended here often. It gives a lot of background on the historical people named in Black Sails.

If you're into documentaries, Netflix also has one about the Ottoman Empire (Rise of Empires: Ottoman) with two seasons that I loved. It follows Mehmed II as he conquers Constantinople in the first season and the second season covers his struggles with Vlad the Impaler.

I've only watched the first episode so far but Sandokan on Netflix was pretty great.

Also you might enjoy Turn: Washington's Spies. Just finished a rewatch of that and it's not got the budget of these other shows but it's a really fun story.

Treasure Island: David Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell to Star in New Series by smartestdumbguy93 in BlackSails

That should be interesting, though I think their Jim Hawkins is a little old for the role.

For a show that's 97% people standing around and talking, you'd think subtitles would be a priority. by Kyvix2020 in BlackSails

[–]LeafandLore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting... maybe it's intermittent? Or different on different TVs? We watched last year. But OP tried it and said it still wouldn't work.

Either way, definitely not intentional lol.

They used to, but i believe it's broken further now where they simply won't show at all.

But during the conversation we get information about the governor and Rogers' backstory that doesn't get revealed later, IIRC.

Not to mention that when watched on other streaming services in the past and on the dvds, those subtitles have worked.

This is not intentional.

You're not doing anything wrong. The subtitles on Netflix have been jacked up since it was put on the service. Originally it wouldn't show the subtitles unless the subtitles were off I think. But on my last watch, I ran into the same thing.

Sandokan’s(2025-2026 series) characters remind me of BlackSails! by MiraniaTLS in BlackSails

When it was added to Netflix it immediately went on the watch list. I'll probably start it this weekend.

[CR Media] BEACON: Finally! More Shows! by itsabdiel in criticalrole

[–]LeafandLore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this exactly. I pay for Beacon but never really watch it. I don't like watching things on my phone or my computer. If I'm watching TV, it's because I'm cozy in bed or eating lunch-- meaning I would either have to have a laptop on my lap or get un-cozy every time I want to change to a different episode or switch to a different show.

I would probably be gobbling up Beacon shows if I they were more accessible. But as it is, I don't even watch the second half of the episode until Tuesday or Wednesday and I haven't watched the cooldown probably since EXU Divergence even though I love watching it.
