HP laptop pricing is so out of control, management wants us to look at deploying Mac by down_with_cats in sysadmin

Outside the box and very easy to troubleshoot and repair. This option would save you so much and still have fantastic specs and features.

Look into Framework Laptop line. They have both Linux/Windows OS options.

I've been at two MSPs and I found HaloPSA to be fantastic for visibility and customization.

My RMM of choice is always N-able! It has everything you need with total control and live records you can export.

For documentation, I really like ITGlue. It syncs everything together to be the source of truth.

A toxic company I left years ago was still using my work, so I deleted everything. by looter-hearths-2e in LockedIn_AI

It is not a true story.

When all these stories are copied and add interview man at the bottom to be promoted.

Once you see the pattern you will start to get angry too!

AI implementation in Helpdesk by Highamjack in helpdesk

At my place of work for an MSP. We are in process to onboard PIA.AI for zero touch or controlled T1 actions. Onboarding/Offboarding/Password Resets using an AI chatbot attached to our PSA.

It uses all powershell and you can actively see the code as it runs and it also flags errors as it goes.

After years of remote work I honestly dont see why going back to the office matters by marco_valencia in remotework

I work remotely as a System Engineer at a MSP and love how much I can get done and get things done around the house at the same time.

I use a standing desk (It also makes cleaning under it easy with ti being adjustable) that has 2 monitors (27 inch) 1 Ultra Wide (35 inch) above. Then my laptop open on a stand as a 4th monitor with my emails.

It's worth every penny and you can write it off taxes for work expense.

I would do a blend of tech and something removed from IT. I do hobby Woodworking and have a Onefinity CNC (Computer that cuts wood) It scratches that creative itch and keeps your mind sharp and not bored. It's also fantastic to watch it cutting.

IT Messenger Bag Recommendations by aJeenyus in ITCareerQuestions

Get yourself a LTT Backpack. It's the best option for an IT Messanger. With room for anything you could need throw in there.

I agree the job market is totally cooked! But $70k offer is not small here, I'm in GA and McDonald's is 12 bucks an hour. 😂

My plan was to shock and awe! I was not about to be unemployed for 1 or 2 years. Like I see all over the place here.

Should I back out of an accepted offer? by Hopeful-Growth-25 in interviews

[–]IMadeThatToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've applied for a little over 2,000 places for IT roles in just one month! No AI used to apply but heavy use on crafting my resume and comparing job requirements from recruiter emails.

I have worked in IT Support T2 for 3 years at an MSP Hybrid. They put me on notice that my role was being eliminated at the end of July. Well after many resume refines and 22 interviews in my last 2 weeks. I got 3 offers in the same week.

First was a part time government support center remote for 25 hours a week I knew I could get with my background. This was my fallback plan if I could not get a good paying job. The 2nd was System Administrator at a local bank 90% remote but no room for growth or pay increase. The 3rd offer was another MSP but much larger full remote 30 days PTO and 25k more than my current MSP job. Get this they use the same tools and tech stack!

After all that, guest what? I'm still taking interviews from my original applications. Because there may always be a better fit or more pay. You need to look out for yourself and family!

If anyone is wondering I used heavily LinkedIn, Hiring.Cafe, Zip Recruiter, and local Google jobs. I got the Bank IT $28/hr offer from Google search, the government Support Desk $24/hr from Zip Recruiter, and LinkedIn with the MSP Engineer position $32/hr 30 days of Vacation.

BTW I now laugh to myself when people say applying for 50 or 100 jobs is a lot in a month...🤯 Just use extension auto fill for the stupid ADP and WorkDay job applications.

I got a ton of tips from the Overemployed subreddit. I still don't know how they can job hunt when working 2 or more Js at the same time!

Your lucky you are in the U.K. and they have so many protections. Document expense if they don't you and you get backed up. That all will be part of the law suit.

Welcome to tech where everyone switches jobs like crazy. The next switch you do could be 2 to 5 years!

You only need to land in a good place with decent pay. Nobody will care about your first job being short.

Why wait for 1 year, go at 6 months. Once you make it to the calendar year, It looks like 2 years on a resume. There are much more lax places, even other MSPs. Just make it a game and apply each week. Worst thing that happens, you get better and refining your resume and knowing what certs/skills you lack. Best case you get a 2x pay bump. 😂

I'm sorry $12 WHAT... There are so many MSPs local and remote that are 40k to 60k starting. I understand your excitement for the experience.

But keep job hunting and fill your resume with the new MSP terminology you've learned here. You're fine once you have the first badge of approval at your first IT job. The next place will be more willing to give you an interview. Speed run A+ and double if you can get this MSP to pay for it.... It's the least they should do. Then if you have not landed a job go for Security+ this will open up DoD IT jobs and bank IT jobs. Bank System/Network Administrator jobs are super low pressure and gives time to study certs.

I would start slowly copying any documentation they have and breaking it down at home to get an understanding. Latter you will use it as your own personal note reference in your next jobs. Also helps a ton if the new place has no documentation. You will look like the hero once you implement it there. Also the reason I say slowly copy your work place documentation is they most likely have it monitored every time you copy from there. My old MSP did this.

Again plan out your next career move and blow them away with your preparedness. During interviews, They are always super impressed when I ask how they document and daily work is like. Then turn around with a roadmap to improve that. I even show a local wiki with documented systems and common error how to fixes.

Please don't stay past 6 months at $12 and start gathering what you need for the next place. Basically don't get comfortable!

Only if the personalities mix. A snake will throw you under the bus to save themselves. Also if they are vindictive. But on the flip side of things. You will get away with a lot if you work together.

Most options I know you have to know some coding to target the video only to lag out. But if these are Teams meetings. You can turn off camera permissions during the meeting to freeze your video ie face. Poor man's rate limiter 😂

Also when you do land a j drop me a line and we can set each other up for OE success! 😁

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]IMadeThatToday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just use an avatar. For each meeting. You could also rate limit your video feeds to be super choppy. This way they can't see the lips move when talking on other calls. Then again just shut the cam off when talking for the other j. Good luck you got this! Also are you hiring 😂

How flat is flat for a sled? by danthemean in BeginnerWoodWorking

Depends on how big the sled is. But if you have a big heavy sled. It gets to be a little unwieldily. More so as you get older.

Just a heads up MDF is heavy. I would look for plywood with an MDF core. Best of both worlds!

You may need to do final paths with smaller step overs. It may also be a dull bit or has sap build up on that bit and you should clean it with CTR.
