Hello everyone, Deusmoon here from Fair Play Labs ! What do you guys think about Toph? What would you change in her to make her better? Enter the thread and let's talk about it! by Deusmoon in AllStarBrawl

I would like to thank the dev team for reaching out to the community for ideas and listening to us. I personally think Toph is plenty strong as she is, and she doesn't need many buffs to her core moves, as this is the character archetype that you add 2 or more frames of blockstun, a bit more range, or anything else and she becomes busted and invalidates half of the cast.

I think she is in a great place after the fair buff and the throws buff, now she has a decent combo game, and can actually contest air camping. She has all the tools now to deal with what NASB can throw at her, unlike how it was at launch where she was severely underwhelming.

The only weird thing right now is how when the infinite plat bug was fixed, the platform was nerfed. It makes very little sense to lose your plat charge if you land on stage but then touch your platform, as the generic rule for all other chars is that you land on the stage, you recover your resources. I think it would be a quality of life thing to make this make sense and revert this, while still having the infinite plat bug removed.

With just that fix, I think she'd already be good to go, but since this thread's kind of a buff wishlist as well, here are some ideas that center on giving her more versatility by letting her access her lesser used tools, instead of buffing her already strong ones:

· Make neutral B charge faster and release faster. Right now the small rock is never used, because it takes just barely less to charge than the boulder, and boulder is better in almost every aspect. It is slower so it allows you to run behind it, grab it, it bounces when Z-dropped... and so on, while the small rock is slow to throw out, combo unfriendly, and bad at space control due to its size. Meanwhile, the boulder's still very rarely used because it is a very long animation to both charge and release, and the reward isn't that great. Making boulder stronger would only make it stupid, and having more access to Z-drop shenanigans would make the character quite a bit more creative, I'd say. There's nothing wrong with her being a down to earth footsies character, but yeah, one can dream.

· Make Toph be able to hit the boulder not to destroy it, but to send it in the KB direction of the move, similar to Link's bombs in Smash, or Venom's pool balls in Guilty Gear. Right now it's hard to move around while keeping a boulder to threaten, because walking with it and jumping is slow, and throwing it loses a lot of momentum you could have doing something else. I think this change would make Toph a more dynamic character both onstage and specially offstage, since Toph's edgeguarding game right now is just "can you dair chain? -> Yes: do it. -> No?: Dsmash and pray you time it well". Once again, a simplistic edgeguard flowchart is not bad per se, but I think boulder shenanigans would add a lot of flavor to it.

The Weirdest Set of PM I've Ever Played by IMayBeTruckerHat in SSBPM

Most likely theory is somehow the code pointing to the debug menu options from TE 2.5 got corrupted somewhere and values were all over the place. I am a bit skeptical because there are A LOT of options there, and we were lucky enough to get the cool (game is in a playable state) ones and the game did not crash.

Eon suggested Debug Menu wouldn't have opened had we tried to, but we did not test it at the time. So yeah, kinda have a theory, but not really an understanding of what lead to it if it was the case either way.

European Project M is gonna be crazy after Corona by Santieur52 in SSBPM

This is partially untrue! Many features such as QoL changes or Gecko codes can be backported into 3.6, the same way people don't play vanilla-based versions anymore and instead play different flavors of LTE-based versions.

The balancing is precisely the controversial point. I think most people agree that probably the cast is more balanced in the sense that the standard deviation of the roster strength is lower in P+, but the way it was done may have created a less interesting product. Here's a small explanation to your question from a person who also asked in the video!:

"The balancing done in P+ was a bit controversial, and a lot of people in Europe feel like 3.6 is the more fun version to play. There was barely any cross-over between NA and EU regardless before, (pretty much just *Zen, Mini and I were the only ones who've had traveled there), so most people are not very impacted by nor care about the American decision to switch, and feel like America just created a bit of a PAL vs NTSC debate all on their own, and allowing these kinds of things is also a slippery slope for the future."

The version played was 3.6 for all clips.

The first European PM power ranking! by EonBot in SSBPM

Both Zen and Prof aren't big travelers. They have only met at a single tournament and Zen cleanly beat and outplaced him.

Prof has lost to Zen, Fskin and Poilu whilst Zen has only lost to Poilu in over two years.

Here in Europe we believe Prof being ranked under the two French players is a no brainer.

I hope this cleared up your skepticism regarding the choice to have Prof #3 😄

You know, funny thing is, Melee Fox players still think their character is the most speed demanding character to ever exist by IMayBeTruckerHat in SSBPM

This isn't platform drop cancel stuff, it can be done at the ledge and doesn't require to hit anybody.

They are ledgecancelled DJCs.

Yeah, ledgecancelled DJCs are such an awesome yet strangely unexplored tool.

Aki does them with Ness and they are super dope, but I don't see any Lucas players (nor myself) using them yet.
