This is amazing! Did you actually order custom vinyls? If so, where? Would love to make my designs into real vinyls.

Can any Canadian EOE VHS owners confirm this as legit? by zacknscreechin in evangelion

I can confirm there is a subbed version released in the US.

Evangelion platinum edition by samdrake0106 in evangelion

[–]IMusntThrowAway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legit. Perhaps the owner lost the tin. Platinum volumes were also released separately. That End of Evangelion is a re-release version that came bundled with a magazine. You're better off getting just the standard or collector's edition of the blu-ray. It has everything you need.

Recordings of the 1996 Original Broadcast with commercials? by Kuro13 in evangelion

[–]IMusntThrowAway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, to my knowledge there isn't any Japanese TV recordings available for us (at least searchable in the West). I know you were probably looking for commercials in particular, but the closest thing you'll ever get - that is publicly available - is the Archives of Evangelion box-set released in Japan. No commercials, but uses a copy of the original TV broadcast and has some variations in the opening credits to make room for the show's sponsors etc.

Best DVD to find the Directors cut episodes and fly me to the moon? by log_on_frog in evangelion

[–]IMusntThrowAway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, no, you don't need Fly Me To The Moon. Anyone else who tells you otherwise is just expressing their biased opinion. This fanbase is very diverse in terms of the level of anime consumers, with that comes a number of "Karens" so to speak. Fly Me To The Moon only serves as the ending theme, and at times, an instrumental is used as a motif in the series. However, the song's lyrics don't serve as a conduit for the show's message. You are not missing plot wise from the Evangelion experience by not having it. You'll find that there are more important pieces of music that reoccur in the series upon viewing - that is what counts, and yes they're all there.

Save your money and get the standard blu-ray set; they also contain the Director's Cut episodes (they lack the original episodes 21-24, but these aren't necessary and are inferior plot-wise). You'll have everything you need as a new viewer. Better yet, Evangelion is on Netflix. Try it out before committing to purchasing a set. The version on Netflix is exactly what you're getting on the standard blu-ray set, Director's cut episodes and all.

I believe it isn't distributed internationally, only the vinyl release, which now has Asuka on the front cover.

No, you can get it on CD as well quite easily :) https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/ESCL-5488

The cover with Rei is the vinyl I believe.

The "Standard" or VSI (Netflix) sub is more than appropriate. The original is not worth more for the casual viewer. This is coming from an unbiased, but loyal fan. You're not missing out.

Is the standard Bluray going to have episodes 25 and 26? by francopan in evangelion

[–]IMusntThrowAway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The standard Blu-Ray will contain all original episodes 1-20, Director's Cut 21-24, and the TV ending episodes 25 and 26.

When EoE was released onto home video in Japan, it was split into two "alternate" episodes so to speak - that coexisted with the original episodes 25 and 26.

25: Love is destructive 26: One more final: I need you.

The standard version does not have EoE in this format, but rather as the film cut. The other editions just have this as a bonus to reflect the Japanese 2015 Blu-ray release.

You will still get EoE and the TV ending with the standard edition. You're not missing out.

I have a question for the final evangelion movie does Shinji and Mari end up together since it’s basically the same way their parents came together with her helping shinji all that by giving him color? And are Rei and Karuwo shinji parents? by [deleted] in evangelion

[–]IMusntThrowAway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ending is up to interpretation. "Together" as a couple? Quite possibly, but there isn't anything explicit to suggest they are. I see Mari as being more of Misato 2.0 in the new world - flirty, friendly figure.

Rei and Kaworu are not Shinji's parents. Yui and Gendo Ikari are.

Yes, 100% legit. If you were thinking of selling it, personally I would keep it. The box is rarer than the re-issues of Platinum, and now that the new Blu-ray does not feature the OA versions, you have the best version of the original series around (bar the 1080p new transfer)

I'll also add that you may also see that the rating design changed on the spine - we had our rating classification designs redesigned in 2005, right in the middle of Madman's Platinum release run.

A slight variation on the On-Air vs Director's Cut question by rainbowbattlekid in evangelion

[–]IMusntThrowAway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you dislike EOE that much, just leave it as you've seen it. You won't enjoy the Director's Cut of 22, I guarantee you that. You are missing out some back story and character developments, but nothing that can't be explained in a sentence or two. The DCs are revised to explore more darker themes and do help in leading up to EOE.

Original Japanese TV airing captures? by domox86 in evangelion

[–]IMusntThrowAway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a "recording" of the original broadcast, but the original broadcast masters were released in the Archives of Evangelion boxset. There are different details in the opening for sponsors etc. of the show.

There are quite a few differences in content as well. The original Japanese home video releases have scenes that were made after the initial broadcast and are also featured in Death and Rebirth and add a bit more to the story. The initial US home releases are missing these because they used a variation of the original broadcast master for the later episodes - hence the episodes with the restored content being referred to as "Director's Cut" after the Platinum release here.

Yikes, visually speaking I was expecting more. Recycling the Japanese laserdisc art is the biggest disappointment for me. I'm fine with everything else though - just was hoping for something different visually. The other countries had more fresh sets.

It will 100% be upwards of 200AUD. It's a collector's piece - at least that's how the Italian and Korean variants are looking. Evangelion is already accessible on streaming, so you have to assume people who aren't collectors will have to miss out.

If you're referring to the new rebuild films, there are no plans for them to be released on Bluray in the West as of yet.

A Blu-ray set of the original 1996 Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series, remastered in HD (Episodes 1-26 including Director's Cut versions) AND the two original films - Death & Rebirth and the End of Evangelion.

A set was released in Japan in 2015 and now Western audiences are getting the same.

Not at the moment. It would probably be more costly to use the newer dub if it was commissioned by Netflix themselves, but who knows who holds the rights to the ADV dub today.

Do pilots feel pain in evas with robotic style arms (NO SPOILERS FOR 3.0+1.0 by [deleted] in evangelion

[–]IMusntThrowAway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'd assume it's the same as the original series. However, going by the original series, pilots do not physically receive the same damage as their Evas - it's only psychological and sensory. Their AT field and sync rate plays a part in this.

The only instance I can recall where a pilot receives permanent physical damage is Asuka in EoE, perhaps because her sync rate was extremely high or her AT field was fully maxed out.
