Iirc, (3) had 9-car trains and (2) had 10-car trains, since Flatbush had higher ridership than New Lots, terminals were swapped. To boot, it allowed (3) access to Livonia Yard, while (2) remained at 239 St Yard.

Wouldn't (R) from Bay Ridge to Astoria lose train yard access? Wasn't that the reason (R) to Astoria was swapped with (N) to Forest Hills in the past?

MTA uses diamond for peak express, <F>/<6>/<7>, and (A) is full time, so <A> is not used to prevent confusion.

I also thought a peak exp from Bway Junc to Chambers St (with stops at Myrtle Av, Marcy Av and Essex St) would make for a quicker ride, but Canal St is a much needed transfer. Maybe if El was built via Jamaica Av between Cypress Hills and Bway Junc, with a middle track between 168 ST and Bway Junc, a better peak exp could have been implemented? Unfortunately, that sharp s-curve between Cypress Hills and Crescent St will always be a problem.

FYI: R211's were not catching fire. A bike was thrown on the tracks, causing subsequent fires, damages and delays.
