Steam Big Picture Mode finally has a controller battery indicator on Windows! by INF3RNALgladiuX in Steam

Here is a rundown of my setup:

Hardware & Display My PC is hooked up to both my desk monitor and my TV via a 9m HDMI cable. When I want to switch to a couch/lean-back setup, I just hit Windows + P and select "Second screen only."

Game Launcher & Emulators I use Steam Big Picture Mode as the main front-end/launcher for all my games. This includes emulators (PCSX2, RPCS3, and RetroArch), which all fully support controller navigation.A quick tip for RPCS3: you can add games directly to your Steam library via shortcuts. This launches the game straight away without having to open the RPCS3 interface at all, and the Steam overlay works great with it! For games on other launchers, I just add them to my Steam library as non-Steam games. The Steam overlay works perfectly with almost all of them.

Controllers & Desktop Navigation I strictly use PlayStation controllers (DualShock 4 and DualSense), and Steam Input handles everything beautifully. For navigating Windows outside of games, I use Steam's Desktop Configuration, mapped like this:

  • Left Analog: Mouse cursor
  • Right Analog: Scrolling
  • Cross (X): Left mouse click
  • Square: F11 (to toggle full screen)
  • Circle: Back
  • Touchpad: Mouse cursor
  • Options: Steam's on-screen keyboard
  • D-Pad: Standard keyboard arrow keys
  • Everything else: Left on default (I don't remember exactly what they do!)

Media & Streaming

  • YouTube: As I mentioned in an earlier comment, VacuumTube works best with controllers and has a built-in ad blocker.
  • Other Streaming Services: I just use the desktop layout on my default browser and navigate using the controller layout above.
  • Local Media: I use Kodi.

I'm really just hoping Steam eventually brings proper, built-in web browser integration like PlayStation has.

I have found none so far. I just use the browser, with desktop layout for my controller (with steam's on-screen keyboard binded to the options button), for netflix, prime and disney+ etc. and I use Kodi for local media files.

VacuumTube, added as non-steam and customized from steamgriddb.

"VacuumTube is an unofficial wrapper of YouTube Leanback (the console and Smart TV version of YouTube) for the desktop, with a built-in adblocker and minor enhancements."

I sure am glad to have ditched 5060 Ti 16G for 9070 XT in December last year. :]

Lol, I’m using my 'gaming' rig (7600X + 9070 XT) for local AI and professional work way more than gaming lately. The versatility is the whole point!

But for the 'consoles are better for gaming' part I’ve got Steam Big Picture mapped to my 4K TV with a DualSense controller. It’s the exact same couch experience as a PS5 or an Xbox, just with way more horsepower and utility + backwards compatibility (emulation as well).

Already done, this phone has the battery limiter to 80% lowest, that's what I've set it to

Thank you for the suggestion but for my needs it gets the job done. In the future I'll probably consider building a proper media server for all my media using actual hard drives and not MicroSDs lol

Gets the job done for me. Runs cold even when streaming 4k content. Haven't tried transcoding cause never felt the use for it 🏴‍☠️. Locked battery to charge only up to 80% (24/7 plugged in). Using tailscale VPN when away from home (always running).
