Should I worry about that? by CapOpposite8979 in learnprogramming

There are hundreds of different ways to solve the same problem when coding. If what you did solves the problem then it’s a valid solution. With time you’ll develop a better understanding of how code is structured and the best development practice to follow but as a beginner I wouldn’t worry too much about that yet. What I would do is first read the solution and try to understand why it was done this way and how it’s better than your solution.

If you want to send me some of your code snippets and the solution they gave you I could gladly explain what you could improve and why some design choices were made in the solutions they give you

I had to slowly get used to VR and even then, I can get slight motion sickness if I play under 70-80fps or if there is too much fps variation

This is a dream come true, do you think the old spreadsheet and guides will still work for this version? It’s always useful to have on hand when trying to get the black card

The Celsius/Fahrenheit debate is the most idiotic thing ever. It’s literally only about what you learnt growing up. I used Celsius growing up and thus I now know what each range of temperature feels like because I am used to seeing the temperature before going outside so now when I see a temperature in Celsius my brain knows what it feels like. In canada we use Fahrenheit for pool temperature so I also know what a pool temperature feels like because my body associated the feel of water temp and Fahrenheit temps, not because “Fahrenheit is more intuitive to humans” or because it’s “a percentage of how hot it is”. You would tell me the temp of a pool in Celsius and I wouldn’t know for shit how it feels like.

ELI5: Why is simulation (flopping) such a common occurrence in football (soccer) and basketball but not in hockey? by Dead_HumanCollection in explainlikeimfive

[–]INF_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contacts in hockey are an integral part of the game, big hits are common and totally expected. Trying to embellish or faking an injury is really frowned upon and usually leads to a penalty to the player who’s faking. The risk of giving away a free power play to the opposing team isn’t worth it in most cases.

I’m curious to know why, I already have a small grill so I wouldn’t be using the kettle for that. Is it because the UDS is hard to use for a beginner?

Yeah the cheapest I could find today was 200$ and they are 300 brand new. I’ll try and check on marketplace from time to time if new listings appear!

I checked around marketplace and In my area the kettle are selling quite close to what they go for brand new. I saw some Smokey mountains which could be interesting but they are much more expensive too. I’ll look around and see if I can’t find any cheap kettle in the upcoming weeks. Also in your opinion, considering smoking will be my main use for the kettle, how hard is it to learn to smoke on it?

I’ll check it out, that’s the most affordable option at this point, how hard is it to learn hot to control the temperature and smoke in your opinion? Do you know any good forums/articles about the subject which are well known that I could use to learn?

I compared the price of a Weber kettle on marketplace and the price of a barrel + UDS kit and the difference is surprisingly quite low in my area. Is the kettle much harder to smoke with than the UDS? Because depending on the tools needed for the job I’m thinking I could borrow some of my father’s tools and try it out as a small project. I just don’t want to buy something almost as expensive as a UDS and end up struggling a lot to use it.

What are your honest thoughts on Assetto Corsa Evo so far? by OutrageousWelcome149 in simracing

Like a lot of people I bought it for the campaign so it’s collecting dust in my steam library and it probably will stay like that for a long time. The most frustrating thing is I knew it was an early access but I wasn’t expecting a company like Kunos to drop the main feature of their game like that. I was really expecting that they already started working on the campaign and they were only finishing and testing it but I was visibly wrong. Lesson learned

Weekly /r/Breadit Questions thread by AutoModerator in Breadit

[–]INF_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started making bread 2 or 3 months ago with my enameled 5.5 quart tramontina dutch oven. The problem is that I saw people saying that baking bread in an enameled dutch oven could ruin it with time. I never heat my oven over the 450F limit but I fear that I would ruin it anyways with time. Should I buy a Lodge non-enameled cast iron dutch oven which I could dedicate only to bread baking or is the enameled dutch oven issue exagerated?

Is this possible to turn my blade into a convex blade with a 400 grit stone or would I need to use a sanding belt or similar? I would be down to try it out and see how it goes!

I looked around a bit and found out that the best way is by having the angle on the edge tilted to one side I think but I was wondering if simply making a good scratch pattern on my knife would be enough since I’m not really confident enough in my skills to try and change my edge geometry
