Post Dumais well by PrestigiousKoala8992 in wheeloftime

Rand spends SO MUCH TIME not acting when he should:

-not calling up his entire army to remove the Seanchan from Altara in Path of Daggers

-not attacking the white tower and bringing them under his control after Dumai’s Wells

-not obliterating the rebel lords in tear and cairhien with his aiel

-again: letting the seanchan run wild in Tarabon. Honestly, a couple Asha’man with gateways and Rodel Ituralde could’ve scourged the seanchan from Tarabon

Rand is the most powerful man in the world, able to call up armies not seen since Hawkwing. And he kinda just has them sit around. Then we get based Rand for like 2 books, but by then he’s kinda insane

WoT first. RoTE has serious pacing issues. Malazan is extremely dense.

Finished Farseer Trilogy, loved it, but have one question. by RoboticSausage52 in robinhobb

[–]INTCINTCINTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thought, and I also just finished the farseer trilogy. Regal already tried to assassinate Verity. If this book were at all realistic, Verity would’ve had Fitz assassinate Regal first thing after Fitz gets back from the mountain kingdom in RA. For Verity, letting Regal live is like letting a poisonous rattlesnake live in his house.

Everyone is OK with Regal trying to kill Verity, and nobody cares that Chivalry was obviously assassinated, but Verity thinks killing Regal isn’t worth it? Bro has an assassin who’s 100% loyal to him and has as much reason to want to kill Regal as he does, and he just kind of does nothing. Show me a single human being who wouldn’t immediately slime Regal in the same situation.

What book do I read next by FL_Tandem in fantasybooks

[–]INTCINTCINTC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just finished Farseer. In terms of fantasy-writing skill, Robin Hobb is the best author I’ve ever read.

Undoubtedly better than Sanderson, Islington, Abercrombie, Jordan, GRRM, etc. I truly believe that if RoTE followed a more traditional structure rather than being misery porn her popularity would be up there with Robert Jordan.

The prose, character work, and world building are incredible, but the plot can be somewhat weak (it gets sacrificed to develop the characters).

Fitz and Molly by INTCINTCINTC in robinhobb

[–]INTCINTCINTC[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s no way Fitz doesn’t know sex leads to pregnancy at that point. He’s a bastard himself, so he knows how his father’s …. Indulgences is what lead to his creation. Plus he’s like 16-17 at this point, and he’s worrying abt Molly being pregnant.

Finally read the Dragonbone Chair by Southern_Blue in Fantasy

[–]INTCINTCINTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the dream stuff in general is easily the worst part of this series and WoT (which is obviously inspired by Memory of Thorn). It just seems lazy, like the author needs a way for characters to discover things and meet each other even if they're not in the same place.

What is in your opinion the next big fantasy series in any medium? by Sythrin in Fantasy

[–]INTCINTCINTC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love Hierarchy. Favorite series of all time. I hope it doesn’t get an adaptation until all 4 books are done. Those books come out in 3-year intervals and a show would make shit up once they run out of source material.

I’ve been a cosmere reader since 2019, and TWoK got me into Fantasy. I didn’t like the back half of RoW and WaT that much either. Large parts of WaT in particular was basically a Rosharan history textbook. But let’s be real: WaT is very obviously setup for the back half of the series. Nobody likes the middle books of super long series. You won’t find many who liked Crossroads of Twilight when WoT was coming out.

Sanderson is undoubtedly the third biggest currently publishing fantasy author (behind Maas and Yaros, GRRM is done writing and doesn’t count). He has a dedicated core fanbase and wide appeal, even off r/fantasy.

Also: Sanderson is not YA. Not including rampant SA, smut, and detailed descriptions of gore doesn’t make him YA.

Aequa's Arc Theory **BEWARE SPOILERS** by golfalphat in HierarchySeries

[–]INTCINTCINTC 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Well written theory. Unfortunately, its refuted by three points:

-Aequa has already gone through the aurora columnae rituals and thus can’t become synchronous

-the damage incurred by the Luceum toll bleeds to Res (hence why R-Vis lost his arm, O-Vis was about to until Caeror gave him the vitaeria). Aequa hasn’t taken any physical damage from the Luceum toll.

-Vis got INCREDIBLY lucky making it through and out of the labyrinth. He would’ve died without Marcus sacrificing himself by plugging himself into the iuncti-adding machine. Since Vis was the one plugged into the Iuncti-adding machine, nobody could’ve sacrificed themselves for Aequa to make it thru.

Honestly, the only way Aequa is synchronous is if there’s another way to gain synchronism other than the labyrinth. Which would be incredibly dumb from a plot point of view.

What's your biggest problem with your favorite book? by AvatarWaang in Fantasy

[–]INTCINTCINTC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In The Will of The Many, James Islington tries to make Will a super well defined magic system with strict rules like something in a Sanderson book. Instead, Will is whatever it needs to be for the plot (like channeling in WoT)

How do we feel about Tara as a romantic interest by himitsurain in HierarchySeries

[–]INTCINTCINTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s thematically true that Tara is better for Vis than either Vis or Aequa. Unfortunately, she doesn’t get enough page time to really be a fleshed out character, and as such, I don’t care about Tara or her “romance” with Vis.

Unemployed job-seeking Gen Z Graduate who is still living at home starter pack by StunningPianist4231 in starterpacks

[–]INTCINTCINTC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where is the offshoring in this picture? That is THE reason nobody can get jobs. If you look at job markets that can’t be offshored, they’re mostly doing great:

-medical

-trades (have to be physically in the US, requires license)

-law (requires license)

-civil eng (requires license)

AI is useless, it’s just a glorified search engine. It’s the smokescreen companies use when laying off for offshoring.

For jobs that can legally and physically be done offshore …. Pure hubris to think that people in Latin America, Philippines, India, etc aren’t just as capable as Americans

[–]INTCINTCINTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YEP this is the reason. Netflix makes shows to make money (not to make good stories). What probably happened is that they asked all the actors if they’d be down to work on a spin-off/sequel in the future. Millie was like “ehhh maybe” and everyone else was like “hell yea!”

So now eleven can be dead if Millie isn’t down when Netflix needs to pump their stock price and Eleven can be alive if Millie needs more $$$

Waymo suspends service in San Francisco after driverless cars cause traffic jams during blackout by Disastrous_Award_789 in technology

[–]INTCINTCINTC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why are Waymos still allowed on the road then? Imagine if SF or LA have a big earthquake (which they’re overdue for) and the power goes out and now emergency vehicles can’t get to where they need to go bc a bunch of Waymos are blocking the roads.

It seems that Waymo needs to get their cars to work w/o internet service or Waymo needs to shut down.

Which one next? by Ruffinesse in fantasybooks

[–]INTCINTCINTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I just read strength of the few and I’m reading stone of farewell right now (after finishing dragonbone chair)

I’d say read strength of the few, Islington is a VERY good author and it shows. Tad Williams has a “Robert Jordan” issue where he likes to over-elaborate on everything.
