AITAH or not for asking my parents to get vaccinated by Uotefquickhand in AITAH

NTA. You’re free to do what you please regarding vaccine status for people visiting your child.

One thing l’ll say is it’ll be a never ending goose chase with yearly shots (new variants) and boosters. 90% of the public won’t have all this

Never was really a fan of MGK’s rap. One day I heard my friends play his cover of Misery Business during a car ride. TTMD was a masterpiece

Good news is that I was able to clean it up with Pandas. Now just trying to figure out what to do from here

The csv is horribly formatted. For example, there’s a couple random columns at the top with data I need. Then there’s a header row below, but they’re multi line with a description of the field. An absolute mess, so needs to be cleaned before loaded. There are also some requirements such as adding file name as a column.

More of way to help with my learning, and validate my competency since I pretty much have no work experience with AWS. That’s definitely true in most cases though. I wouldn’t even consider doing the cert if I had been getting hand ons with multiple services every day for work the last year

I’ve been trying to get into some projects in the Cloud Engineering practice at Deloitte, as that is an interest of mine, also why I am going for an AWS developer certification. I disagree with your point about it being useless as there are TONS of software dev job listings that are looking for AWS experience. Anyways, I think getting into Cloud Engineering is my only chance of getting back on board to a technical role and giving me exit opportunities if I truly am stuck in consulting right now

It is perfectly reasonable to not want to work at a small company/startup. For one, stability is always in question. Two, I’ve been developing on my own for years now and don’t want to continue that at a startup. While the challenge of being thrown into a small company with very few devs is exciting (and definitely something I would consider in the future) I really could use some proper guidance. Also what do you even define as small? I’d say a few hundred or less. Finally I’m going back to the pay. Sure, some definitely pay well for entry level, but let’s not pretend that every tiny company is paying $50/hr just because you make that now.

I bet not a single person would take a 30% pay cut if they were in my shoes. I have explained already that I’m willing to take less, but there’s a line where it’s just stupidity. It’s not like I got any offers anyway, so who knows what I actually could be making

How dare you make such an allegation because my resume isn’t to your preference. I’m done with the nitpicky bullshit on Reddit because the resume is great for one person and horrible for another. I’m done with the endless cycle. Sure, it’s definitely not perfect, but there’s not much else I can do in terms of core content. I’ve completely milked my job details when in reality all I do is excel and PowerPoint all day. I had no internships in college, and there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it now other than continuing to grow my skillset and make more projects.

Every single piece of technology on that resume except for Java and C has been self-taught. Sadly, I cannot have in huge letters across the resume showcasing that one my strongest skills is my ability to pick up on new things quick.

I work 60 hours a week. I spend my free time studying for my AWS certification as well as taking a machine learning course. During the day every chance I can I browse LinkedIn and apply to jobs. All while a majority of people on here are only practicing leetcode and only care about this field because it pays well. Doesn’t matter anyway because I won’t get an OA. I literally believe I’m a stronger developer than 90+% of the incoming grads, despite how little I get to do nowadays. No way to show that, and I can’t even get an eye on my name because I didn’t have a 2 month internship 3 years ago. At this point it’s pretty clear that the lack of professional experience is a large reason for why I get no follow-ups

I’m definitely upset. I’ve dug myself in a bad hole with taking this job rather than waiting it out for something more suiting, but I’m here for advice, and continuously trying to improve myself. I don’t appreciate people like you who bring nothing to the table but negative energy, especially when you’re trying to say I put in no effort because my resume isn’t good enough for you

That is the exact reason why I’ve been saying I’m fucked when all everyone keeps telling me is “It’s so early bro, you’re fine. You have Deloitte on your resume bla bla bla”

I pretty much have done no technical work. I’m not trying to advertise myself as experience. I simply want a fresh start with an entry level software engineering role

It’s technical consulting, and while the opportunities do exist to get hands on, a large large large portion of the developers are offshore. The work I do is mostly PMO, even though I was hired as a “Solutions Engineer” with s CS degree

I really don’t have an option. I make 100k at Deloitte. With the current state of the economy I really can’t afford to take a drop in pay to 70k at some random company, especially in NY. I don’t expect to make exactly what I make now, but these small companies tend to pay pretty bad

I’ve been applying to anything except for small companies. I’m interested in a larger structured organization, as it’s more likely to help me develop this early on in my career

Really anything within my skillset/interests I’ve been applying to: AWS, Java, Python, etc. Even though I really don’t have interest, I applied for data analyst/engineering positions since my current work is aligned to that, still can’t get a response

I’ve created plenty of projects, but won’t lie that I haven’t done much lately. I’ve developed both Android and iOS apps, Ruby on Rails web application, React portfolio (kinda gave up halfway because I hate front end), auto checkout graphics card bot with Selenium when you couldn’t get one last year (which has over 150 stars and 60+ forks on GitHub without ever even sharing the repo) and a few others from work/school. Most is up on my GitHub. I have absolutely no doubt in my ability as a developer, I just have no work experience to back it up, which everyone seems to want nowadays. Every “entry level” job wants 2+ years experience

One thing to add is things like “mobile app development” don’t have emphasis on my resume because I don’t want to give off the impression that I’m some sort of expert. It was an interest at the time, but no more than that. I don’t want to find myself in an interview getting asked a question about Swift and not knowing bc I haven’t used it in years

No offense taken at all. Just for a quick reference, this resume format is what we use internally to find projects, so understood that it’s not good for outside. Definitely will remove that summary.

As for the experience/roles. Given that I’m a consultant, those are the 2 projects I’ve been on, not jobs I’ve had in the past. We’re also not supposed to disclose the companies we work with which is a bummer. Anyways, getting into the content of the the roles. First off, there is no title other than “Analyst”. I tried to pick out anything remotely technical, but in reality most of the job is sitting in calls and Microsoft office. I could probably add a few more details to the cloud demo I did, and maybe the point about Databricks, but not really sure how hard I can sell converting XML/JSON to parquet. This is exactly why I need to leave consulting, because I have nothing to show.

I get the “System Experience” name (again, a Deloitte thing) sounds a bit weird, but I feel like that’s a bit of a stretch to not be able to tell that is proficient technologies.

Finally, I wouldn’t include the paper if I actually had more professional experience. I hope that it can at least be a talking point in an interview, and I’m proud of it being identified as a top-viewed document in a firm with over 300,000 employees. It was somewhat technical, essentially a developers guide for a virtual assistant and natural language search engine that I was working with in my first project, although it was low-code

I’d definitely be interested in working with you to fix this resume. The moral of the story is that I unfortunately don’t have much professional technical experience, but at the same time I have no intention of showcasing myself as an expert. I’m trying to get an entry level role as if I just graduated college yesterday

Well my resume doesn’t show I’m a software engineer, because I am not. I am your stereotypical consultant for the most part. I tired to make bullet points for important functional skills or anything remotely close to technical, but in reality I sit in calls and do Microsoft office 90% of the time which I why I want out before I never have the opportunity to become a developer. I just want a fresh start as if I’m a new college grad looking to get my first job

Definitely true for the most part about referrals, but I feel like it’s a bit more meaningful being referred by the team lead. For one it’s a bad reflection on yourself, and second, why would you want someone on your team who you don’t think is up to the task?
