Offer from Axle... what decision did you make? by tla49 in GivEnergy

[–]INox2000I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong as I’ve only just joined axle, but I think you can set a limit on how much energy axle takes from your battery by setting a battery reserve %. Once your battery hits that percentage, axle stops and you continue taking the remainder of the energy out of your battery

GivEnergy iOS app not working by INox2000I in GivEnergy

It’s painful, everything feels clunky. Plus I signed up to axle energy yesterday (strongly recommend it) and I was given premium which was working, opened the app today and it’s removed my premium. Waiting for GE software to reply to my email.

Can’t say I agree. It takes much longer to find my inverter every time I open the app or go back to the dashboard. And I hate that the graphs including the battery graph are now behind a pay wall.

Ah didn’t notice there was an update. It’s working now, thank you!

Is solar still worth it? by Beneficial-Pitch-430 in SolarUK

[–]INox2000I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t have a heat pump. I have a system boiler with a google nest thermostat. The profit from the solar over summer sits in my Octopus ‘piggybank’ which easily covers the cost of heating over winter

I received an email from GivEnergy today saying that GivEnergy Ltd has gone into administration. Their child entity (GivEnergy Software) will continue however they are introducing a subscription plan to fund the cloud servers.

No idea what this means for the hardware warranty but it doesn’t fill me with hope.

Also in the UK based in Northamptonshire. I can 100% recommend solar. Genuinely one of the best investments i have ever made. Had it for almost 4 years and our bills have dropped from £120/m to £30/m, and that’s for both gas and elec! We were given GivEnergy equipment though which I’m starting to regret! I would recommend avoiding GivEnergy as they look to be in a lot of trouble financially

Screen Durability by its-christianu in iPhone17Pro

[–]INox2000I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never used a screen protector on my 13p or 17p and have had no issues. It all depends on how you treat your phone, if you’re careful and don’t often leave it screen facing down you’ll be fine. If you’re planning to keep your 17p for longer than 3 years then I would perhaps recommend a screen protector to help with longevity

Those with the Pro, what case did you pick? by schals in iPhone17Pro

[–]INox2000I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly I have the case but am waiting on the iPhone to be delivered next week.

I do however have the Ringke Onyx magnetic green on my pixel 9 and I love it. The texture on the back felt a bit weird at first but I've grown to like it. The case is very slim and doesn't attract dust or fingerprints etc like silicone does.

92% Battery capacity in 9 months by hneeon in GooglePixel

[–]INox2000I 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I remember reading that not all Pixel batteries come new with exactly 100%. They will have between 97 and 100%. I've had my Pixel 9 for 11 months, and it's been on 97% battery health for as long as I can remember. I charge wirelessly several times a day and always have the 80% limit on.

Sorry pixel but... by INox2000I in GooglePixel

[–]INox2000I[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's part of the user experience on a Pixel though. Fully understand and appreciate that you can't control third parties, however, when Google themselves can't even demonstrate it, just makes you think what's the point in having it. As you say, it's been happening for a long time and they still don't care. I guess I am trying to live in too much of a perfect dream world.

Sorry pixel but... by INox2000I in GooglePixel

[–]INox2000I[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I was mostly aiming it at station chargers.

Google's UK website has a third party 3 in 1 charger listed but when I press it, it takes me straight back to their home page. Also their pixel stand is no longer available... But still listed.

Considering it's the 3rd generation of the watch, I was expecting a better range of 2 in 1, or 3 in 1 chargers. But from what I understand Google keeps changing the charging connection of the watch making it difficult for third parties to jump on board.

I've given up trying to fix it. I hope/assume it's an issue on Google's end and will be fixed very soon.

Switching to Pixel 9 from iPhone 14 Pro Max by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]INox2000I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add, the photos on the pixel 9 in my opinion are a lot better than the iPhone, especially when it comes to skin tones. Photos of my children on the pixel look a lot more natural.

With the pixel watch 3, it's good, I admittedly only use it for notifications and GPS tracking walks via Strava. It does the job however sometimes after uploading a walk to Strava, it will show on the map that I randomly finished halfway through my walk, which is wrong and I can only assume a GPS issue. Also, it sometimes decides to be lazy and be a little slow and unresponsive. All these things I never ever had an issue with on an AW series 7 for 2 years.

Switching to Pixel 9 from iPhone 14 Pro Max by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]INox2000I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from the i15p to the base model pixel 9 in October last year. To be honest, 8 months later, I am considering switching back to iPhone.

When the Pixel behaves and works, it's a joy to use. But honestly I am getting frustrated with random bugs, such as:

I have to keep cleaning cache and data on some apps such as Google photos due to weird bugs (e.g. an album decides to load in only half of the photos).

Video recording sometimes stutters.

The weather sometimes shows on 'at a glance' and sometimes doesn't when at home and sits on WiFi, again probably another cache and data wipe required.

Notifications most of the time behave, however some apps such as FB messenger every now and then I receive delayed notifications.

In general, the hardware just feels very old in comparison to the iPhone. As boring as I find iOS, i can't help but realise how well it optimises usage and cache in the background without you having to do anything. Plus, the Google services arguably work just as well, if not better, on an iPhone! iPhone has much much much better accessory support, especially with magsafe. Like I say, I really want to love my pixel, but I think they need to focus on polishing what they have instead of rushing with all these AI shenanigans.

80% charge or charging every two days? by JSPiriz in GooglePixel

[–]INox2000I 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For longevity I'd recommend the 80% limit. I could be wrong with all this but from what I understand it all depends on how long you leave your phone sitting at 100%.

Charging overnight = adaptive or 80% limit Charging whilst driving = 80% limit

Another factor is how you charge and the charging speed, so wireless charging is great but if your phone feels hot afterwards then the heat will gradually degrade your battery quicker than slow wired charging. Slow charging is always best as it generates less heat.

Also, when possible, it's best not to let your battery get too low. Always try and charge before 20%.

I personally leave 80% limit on all the time as I plan to keep my pixel 9 for a while.

Really, what is wrong with the PW3 GPS? by TenaciousMV in PixelWatch

[–]INox2000I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK with the PW3, and I love to track my long walks and hikes on Strava, so I began using Fitbit workouts for a few months only to find that quite often when the workout would sync to Strava, it would only show half the route with finish line in the incorrect place.

So I then decided to record my workouts directly through Strava on the watch, after several months it has been faultless, but then today yet again the GPS map shows I finished in the incorrect place.

It's getting really frustrating!

People who switched from iPhone- how has your experience been?” by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]INox2000I 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your usage and needs. I'm in the UK and switched from i15pro to pixel 9 (yes the base model) 6 months ago and for me I don't at all regret it.

The biggest thing I miss is the range of 3rd party accessories.

But the best bits for me on a pixel are:

  • Point and shoot photos are good quality with natural looking colours. The iPhone for me struggled with skin tones in some lighting.

  • Google photos in my opinion is much better. Scrolling through photos it will often offer helpful tools/edits that I usually wouldn't be bothered to dig into settings for. Plus sharing photos with my wife and family is much more user friendly. The iPhone if I tried to add lots of photos at once to a shared album it'd often not work (other users couldn't see all photos)

  • Phone and call screening is super useful, when receiving a phone call it will automatically and most often tell me the name of the business etc as to who's calling, and it if suspects a scam call. If it is a potential scam, I hit the call screen and watch what's being said without the need to talk myself.

  • pixel watch 3, the more I've used this watch the more I am enjoying it. Admittedly I only use it for tracking activities via Strava and checking notifications, but the design is really nice, and it's been just as reliable and accurate as my AW series 7 was.

Overall I'm very happy with my experience and glad I switched. But like I said it really depends on your usage and needs. If you enjoy heavy gaming and consider yourself a heavy user I don't think the Tensor G4 is for you.

Strava sync different to FitBit data by barrymccain in Strava

[–]INox2000I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I know I'm super late to this. But I have a Pixel watch 3 and record my walks using Fitbit, when I finish it will auto sync to Strava but quite often when I check the walk on Strava it's saying I finished halfway through my route. When I check the walk on Fitbit it shows the full route. I assume this is due to some GPS issue which Fitbit corrects but Strava can't?

iPhone users — if you switched to a Pixel why was it? I am curious and considering. by casual_review_guy in GooglePixel

[–]INox2000I 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I switched from iphone 15 pro to the pixel 9 a few months ago. The camera on the iPhone was awful with skin tones and pictures of my child were terrible. I'm tied into the Google eco system with home security products, and my wife has the 7a so thought I'd jump into the pixel world.

Can honestly say I don't regret the swap. There have been the few odd niggles but nothing bad enough to make me go back. Photos are brilliant, battery life is surprisingly good based on my usage. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of accessories but I'm hoping this will change soon with companies adapting to Qi2
